I´ve spent a week in March in Falkenstener`s Funimation Club Hotel in Zadar with my 2 kids and my wife. I have choosen the hotel based on my excellent experience at other Funimation hotel in Katschberg (Austrtia).

I was very dissapointed with this hotel. There is no reason to call it a family hotel. The hotel has only one indoor pool, the water temp was 27-29 C, not warm enough for kids to stay in longer. The warm whirlpool (outdoor) is in the sauna area. Family hours: 14.00-16.00. After lunch, when the kids are sleeping... Fulkyland, the playground are functioning only in the summer high season. So, there is absolutely nothing for children. The hotel looks like operating for tourist groups of retaired Austrians whom stay there for 2-3 days. (we met some 200+)

The room (suite) was OK, but some renovation needed. The food was not bad, but we had beef soup for every day, and there was no children´ buffet. All inclusive means beside the restaurant a bar, which is the farest point of the hotel from anywhere else, and open 10.00-18.30. Good for the older Austrians beeing there and playing cards all afternoon.

To be fair, the hotel should be much lively and better in the high season, as it is directly on the seaside with its own small private (sandy!) beach, with outdoor pools and slides.

I would rather going somewhere else in the low season with kids.

My husband and I stayed here for one night driving through Croatia. It was in the middle of winter. It was cold and wet so we didn't want to look around Zedar therefore we were hotel bound. Being low season a most of the resort was closed.

We both felt that the staff in this hotel did everything in their power to make us feel unwelcome. This resort is clearly for families and they dont want any body else.

It must have been a holiday camp during the communist era and it looks as though it was been done up on a shoe string budget. The room that we stayed in, which was at the front, felt like it could have been in a private hospital. It was very sterile.

Our stay here, though short, was very ammusing. It felt as though we were staying in some sort of institution.

“One of the best hotels I've stayed in”

This place was great!

It's like a campus with several different hotels on the property. I stayed at Funimation, and thought the rooms were fantastic. The bathrooms had a bathtub and shower; the rooms had a living room, balcony, a queen bed and another room with twin beds. It would be great for singles or couples. The room isn't huge, but it definitely has everything you need.

The property is wonderful. It's right on the sea, with several pools and water slides. I was there in the winter, so I could only image how wonderful it would be with beach weather.

The Spa is the largest Acupura in the country, and I highly recommend it. The sauna area is free, and it has a sauna, steam room, cabana area, whirlpool and several different temperature wading pools. There's also a work out room.

I am usually not a fan of an inclusive meals, but the meals were very good, and there were so many options. Breakfast had several meats, three different kinds of eggs, fruit, cheeses, bread (the bread and cheese are amazing!). Dinner had pizza, pastas, several fish, pork, a salad bar, several vegetables and prepared salads, included beer, wine and soft drinks. Lots to chose from for the meat eater and vegetarian alike. While it is a self-serve buffet, it feels more like a restaurant than a cafeteria.

I thought the service was also excellent. The staff spoke English and were very helpful. It is on a bus route to town, and the downtown/old city of Zadar can be done in a day, I hope tone day go back in the summer.

“Good all-inclusive family hotel/holiday”

Falkensteiner Club Funimation Borik

This was a family vacation with 3 young children (ages 4, 5 & 7). I should also state it was a return vacation having fully enjoyed the resort last year.

Short summary ... for an all-inclusive holiday with children (up to around 12) this is hard to beat.

Positives:
1) Resort ... well maintained, not too large so easy to watch the children, enough to keep you occupied for a week (but more than that could imagine you'd get bored).
2) Food ... excellent selection every meal/every day .. can't imagine any child not being satisfied. Pretty good for adults also.
3) Spa .. if you do get chance to use it, quite relaxing and prices reasonable.
4) Beach ... it is a public beach just outside the resort's "fenced area", but it's good sand and was never too busy during our stay. You could put your sunbeds in the hotel facility and simply watch the children on the beach directly. Easily accessible.
5) Pools ... indoor/outdoor .. never too busy, easy to enjoy with the children.
6) Rooms ... spacious and clean.

Negatives:
1) Reception ... check-in was a disaster (took 1hr!) due to believing we would accept 2 rooms in separate buildings (even though we needed adjacent rooms with 3 children which was clearly stated and communicated multiple times prior to arrival). Their attitude was amazing...took 1hr to finally get resolution.
2) Bar ... separate area for an evening cocktail, but service very slow (had 1 barstaff only) and cocktails very poor. Basically a waste of time/money.
3) Water in the pools not heated ... last year the water was warmer presumably due to the weather being better .. this year the outdoor pools felt much cooler and children preferred to spend time indoors or on the beach. Limits the activities and became bored before week had finished.

I stayed in this hotel last summer in pre-season time. There were many guests there, because the prices were very affordable in June. The service is all-inclusive and the food is really excellent. The hotel pool is satisfactory. The hotel beach is actually a lawn and if you want to stay at the sandy beach, you have to pay for the sun decks, as it is already the public beach. There are many sport facilites in the hotel. The bus-station is close to the hotel and the town of Zadar is really cute. I would recommend the hotel mostly to families with kids. And I would certainly return.
