“Cant wait to return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

As someone in the travel industry I cant recommend this boutique hotel enough!
The hotel itself was only opened a few months ago and has large rooms (very un- European) in a modern contemporary décor. There were two single beds, a couch, desk and a mini fridge, lots of cupboards and you could easily fit 4 suitcases without falling over anything. The bathroom has both a bath and shower with a proper shower head – not a detachable one. The location is on the main street of the old town and it is impossible to get lost (even after a few drinks on the next street). The food was superb and they make a decent cup of coffee. For breakfast you are able to order off the menu which included anything from muesli, yoghurt and fruit to eggs Benedict to the most amazing cheese and cold meat platter (it came out on a 3 tiered cake stand). What really makes this property though it the staff.. They were they most friendly bunch of people (from the cleaners to the waitstaff), when you walked in they would ask you how your day was, the receptionist know you by name, they were always there to offer you advise on where to eat or what you should do for the day without being intrusive. Wouldn’t recommend staying anywhere else!

This is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in! It is new but feels old and charming- the entire staff was friendly and could not have been more helpful. They did everything they could from searching the internet for alternate travel routes when the main highway was closed due to weather conditions to handling bags, serving delicious food and making our stay wonderful. Since it rained for a good part of the 2 days we were there, the Art Hotel Kalelarga was a great place to come back to. The location was central to all that Zadar has to offer. Don't miss the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun!

ART HOTEL KALELARGA is brand new (having opened in the summer of 2012). It is only 10 rooms but it is a wonderfully well designed and built boutique hotel. It is right on Kalelarga (the main street of the Old City of Zadar) and is directly in the middle of town, just off the main square. It is the sister hotel of the other high class hotel in the Old City, the Bastione. The staff is friendly, helpful and speaks perfect English. Everything is new and in soothing earth tones. The breakfast room in the basement is very nice and the breakfast (which is included in the nightly rate) is excellent.

I strongly recommend the hotel but note the following:

1. As it is in the middle of the old city, it is not really accessible by car. You will have to enter the city by the gate that faces the footbridge and it is a 3 minute walk to the hotel.

2. The "lobby" for the hotel is really just a desk in the back of a restaurant cafe that opens out onto Kalelarga (which, by the way, has wondeful, but not especially cheap, food). The separate night entrance to the hotel is down a narrow alley off of Kalelarga.

3. Although they have new, soundproofed windows on the Kalelarga side of the hotel, at certain times in the evening (when bands are performing in the main square) it can get a little noisy.

But we had a really GREAT time in the hotel, strongly recommend it and would definitely stay there on our next trip to Zadar.

Situated in the centre of the Old Town in Zadar the Art Hotel is in a great location. We stayed there for a week, fom 16th August until the 23rd, and really enjoyed our stay. The two rooms we had were really good, high quality furnishing, fantastic beds, lovely bathrooms, excellent air conditioning, and the cleanliness was superb. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was a treat. Overall, really can't find a fault. I would definately stay there again.
