The restaurant is at the entrance of Zadar from the highway, on the main road. I would definitely chose to eat here again over other similar restaurants nearby or in the city. Why? It is a true, hearty Croatian dining experience, and not a tourist trap.
We ordered tomato soup, goulash with mashed potatoes, mixed salad with goat cheese (sopska), gnocchi with mushrooms and warm home made bread - only 120kuna! (16euro). We were so full we could not order desert...although the crem caramel on display looked tasty. Guests sitting next to us ordered janjetina & krumpir ispod peke (lamb and potatoes under the bell), and half a roasted chicken (from the spit outside) with grilled vegetables - they loved it! The portions were very large, the service was friendly, prices unbeatable. And the location is convenient if you have a car - lots of parking available and you avoid the city crowds.
We accidentally stumbled upon this place. We knew it would be a hit when we saw that it was full of locals, not just tourists. As you wait for your food on the terrace you can watch over the lamb, pig and chickens twirling on the spit outside - very traditional way of preparing meat. Maybe not a good idea to sit on the terrace if you are a vegetarian, although you can still sit inside, away from the meat display, and order meat free dishes!!
If you are in the Zadar area, don't be afraid to venture to the outskirts of the city. You won't regret it!
