“Fab for a weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2010

Great place to chill for a long weekend. Flights from East Mids Thurs return Sunday. Endless fab restaurants - Baracuda (or any fresh fish) with Mangold at Moby Dicks is wonderful. There's also a place called PiPi's (or something similar) just above Moby Dicks at the top of the steps with a wonderful atmosphere and view over the city.
Sunbath and swim off the rocks at one of the 2 bars through the hole in the wall and walk the wall early evening when it's a bit cooler and the sun is setting over the the harbour - fabulous city just do it!

“Great place to stay when visiting Dubrovnik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2010

If you want to spend some time in Dubrovnik and do not want to stay in the bustling old town - then look no further than Apartment Maris at Lapad bay which is a short bus ride away.
We have just spent a very enjoyable week at the Apartment Maris which is a well equipped and comfortable apartment with lovely terrace area overlooking Lapad Bay. The owners are charming and accommodating and will arrange to collect and return you to the airport at a cheaper price than a taxi. The apartment was Immaculately clean and unusually providing cleaning materials too, which was much appreciated after a spillage of red wine over shirt and trousers! The area is quiet and the bed very comfortable.
Lapad itself is a well kept, attractive resort with pedestrianised walkways littered with restaurants and bars.
There is a regular bus (no 6) which runs every 10 minutes and is only 250 metres or so from the apartment. Tickets aboard cost 10 kunas (approx £1.20) or 8 kunas (£1) from a kiosk near the bus stop. The journey to Dubrovnik takes around 10-12 minutes.
If you have not been to Dubrovnik before then you are in for a huge surprise. It is beautiful, with its tall, old, stone and stately buildings and shining traffic free streets and narrow alleyways.
The walk around the walls which costs 70 kunas is well worth it for the views both in and outside the city. However it is quite strenuous with many steps and different level making it unsuitable for anyone with disability. Boat trips to nearby islands are available. The short trip to Lokrum is well worth it.
Dubrovnik is a favourite place for cruise liners and there are about three a day pouring its passengers into the town. Essential to visit at night too, when it is still bustling but free of the cruise ships. Beautiful lighting and wonderful atmosphere with a wide variety of restaurants. Excellent fish restaurants and lovely pizzas at restaurant/pizzeria Oliva which is in a side street to the right of the Cathedral.
Would highly recommend Apartment Maris and Dubrovnik.

“Dubrovnik Old Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2010

We did the obvious attractions the walls and looked around the city. The walls take about an hour to walk around and do get very busy but you can't leave without doing the Walls. We didn't do the various museums because I think the children, age 9 & 12, would have been bored. But we did go and look in all the churches and even the children said they were nice. But once done we went and sat on the rocks for a swim. We went to a place called "No Nudes, No Topless" it is just a door way through the Walls - it has a bar and is a great place to people watch and watch all the flash boats go by and the unbelievable cliff jumpers - which were mostly Australian backpackers. A couple of days is enough to see everything - if there longer you would probably go on the hundreds of boat trips. Dubrovnik is packed - the tour groups start as early as 8am but it is very friendly and geared up for tourist. Nearly 2-3 cruise ships come every day and on the Saturday we left the taxi driver told us that 10,000 people off cruise ships were heading into Dubrovnik but the city can take it and never queued for restaurants or drinks or icecreams - everything is well organised and clean.

“Warning to travelers using Lido car rental in Dubrovnik”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2010

WARNING to travelers renting cars at Lido Car Rental just outside the walled city of Dubrovnik. We rented the cheapest car we could find for as 2 day sidetrip to Bosnia from Lido Car rental just outside the Dubrovnik city walls. The rate was the best we could find, and other than their showing up late the morning we took possesion of the car everything on the drive and trip to Bosnia went well. HOWEVER we left our credit card impression as a guarantee we would return the car even though we settled the bill with cash upon returning the car. This was THE ONLY TIME we used a credit card on the entire 2 week trip to Croatia A few weeks later bogus charges started appearing on our credit card bill charged by a car rental agency in Spain (which we have never visited). The linkage is clearly obvious. Someone at Lido supplied our number to the car rental agency in Spain in this scam.

1st visit to Dubrovnik and stayed at Lapad, A quieter bay with nice strolls along the headlands, A bit on the expensive side i found whether its eating out or buying in. The bus to Dubrovnik (number 6) are regular and costs 8 euros each way per person and it takes about 10 minutes (does get full). Go to Dubrovnik city early and also do a visit at night, (once the cruise ships come in it does get very very crowded) All in all a beautiful area to visit.
