If you want a characterful stay, within the walls of the old city, then this is a good choice. The decor might not be stylish, but the whole experience is charming and we found our three nights to be very comfortable.
Communication after booking was efficient and we were given some useful advice on arrival-the beers and grappa were a nice touch, and the apartments are on a square with a Konsum mini market, for basics, as well as a couple of decent bakeries for daily pastries etc... The market in front of the apartments was also useful for fruit etc... and interesting to watch the locals go about their daily business in the morning, before the hordes of day trippers and cruise passengers descended.
In high season the city was packed, but there were still quiet corners (Buza bar outside the walls on the rocks, or Restaurant Kopun up the steps from the accommodation, on a quieter square). Certainly, this is the most expensive place in Croatia, and we were shocked in general by how expensive eating out was, across the whole country. For example, in the restaurants off the Stradun, along the narrow lanes expect to pay 600-900 kunas for a three course meal with a bottle of wine. Truly ridiculous. God knows what will happen when they join the euro next year! Indeed, at 110 euros a night, we felt the price was stretched to the limit of credibility (The same apartment in Split would be 60-70 euros). Also, if you don't want to carry your luggage from either the Pile or Ploce gates (8 minute ish walk) then don't stay inside the city; for us it was a trade off worth making to stay in such a great place.
Finally, it is worth noting that if you are arriving by long distance bus or ferry, the terminals are quite some distance outside the centre-you need to get a local bus or pay 75 kunas for a taxi to get to Pile Gate. Buses to the airport are a little haphazard, so most people seem to get a taxi (250 kunas from the Ploce gate, more from Pile!)
There are three apartments-the one on the very top floor is a comfortable studio, and the owner is n...
