Had a lovely stay in Dubrovnik in one of Marko's rooms about a 2 minute walk from the Pile Gate. It is in a really quiet area, a small laneway just up from Orhan restaurant (which I'd recommend for a mid-price dinner).
We had arrived quite early on the Bari to Dubrovnik ferry without accommodation, and had tried a pension across from Marco's place. They were full and directed us across the laneway where we met his lovely niece. She assured us we would have accommodation in one of their rooms for the evening, 100% without a doubt. She said we could leave our bags for however long we wished and come back in the evening, which we did. Around 6ish we returned met a very relaxed Marko who showed us a room. He was so friendly and welcoming and we had a good chat with him for about 30 minutes, about Dubrovnik, Croatia and his 20 years living in Germany. He is generally interested in his guests and you feel as though he is a friend as soon as you meet him.
The room we had was in 2 bedroom apartment, simply furnished with a separate bathroom and kitchen - including a washing machine! We got the larger of the 2 rooms, it was furnished with a double bed, fold out sofa which could be used by another couple or even children if required, a wardrobe, 2 chairs and a coffee table. It was very spacious with a high ceiling so we felt we had plenty of space. It is very basic accommodation, but we're not fussy travellers, as long as we have a clean space to sleep in we are happy. How long are you going to spend in a room when there is Dubrovnik to explore! The beds were made up, with clean towels on the end and I think there were a few shampoos and shower gels in the bathroom. The second room in our apartment was taken by a friendly Spanish traveller who was back for his second stay at Hostel Marker, and raved about Marko being a great guy. We were charge about €56 euros total for the night, which is a bargain in high season.
We would stay here again for sure, it's always great travelling and finding a well-located but economically priced gem like this.
