“Personal approach sets this hotel apart”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

I spent a few days in Hotel Ariston and I'm thrilled with both luxury and service. It is one of the hotels of the Importanne Resort, which is located on the beautiful Lapad peninsula. My room was clean and spacious. Although I didn't have a view onto the sea, the view onto the park was great as well. The hotel is just few miles from Dubrovnik's Old Town. The food was also great, true gastronomic delicacies and Dubrovnik specialties. Staff was extremely friendly, and although I had a late flight into Dubrovnik and an early flight out, the hotel staff organized my transfer to and from the hotel.

We stayed at the Ariston for one night, expecting high standard according to their 5 stars and many nice reviews. The hotel was nice enough, but we did not expect all common areas to be shared with the other hotels next door, making everything, from the reception area to the restaurants and the beach areas very crowded and noisy. It did not meet our high expectations.

My wife and I stayed at the Ariston Hotel for a week, it's set in a lovely location, the scenery was stunning and it was right on the sea front. We didn't get off to a good start... I checked in and was asked to take a seat, the room would be available in 2 minutes then the lady disappeared... After 40 minutes, with steam coming out our ears, I went back to the reception desk to enquire when the room would be ready, a very nice man then handed me the key cards and told us where to go ..... Hmmm and still no sign of the young lady who I originally booked in with!

Anyway, the hotel was very clean, the room was serviced daily, our room was kept clean and tidy by a very pleasant lady called MARINA (thank you!). In fact all the staff were all very courteous and friendly (some of the reception staff could however do with some continued customer service skills training!).

We walked along the coastal pathway every day to Lapad, it's probably about 600 metres, the scenery was absolutely stunning, the Adriatic was crystal clear (also VERY salty)...

The old town is about a 10 minute bus journey away, you get the No 6, just a short 200 metre walk away from out the front of the hotel, buy your tickets (make sure you ask for a return ticket) from the hotel, they are a little cheaper, costs 48 Kn (less than £5 for both of us). The bus gets very crowded, luckily it starts near the hotel and on return starts just outside the west gate of the old town.

The old town is worth a look, do though avoid bar on the upper south side signs point to 'cold drinks and great views'... Should have been called 'we've plonked a few seats and table on the side of a mountain and put up a canopy, the views aren't much really, admittedly the drinks were cold, the staff lethargic and uninterested. There was a terrible urine smell from the lean too port-a-loo' AKA the toilet! Oh and they even tried to overcharge me... I don't think so love! Do you really need a calculator to add 2 x 28...!

Back at the hotel, the Cocktail Bar & Lounge 'on the rocks' is very good, views are stunning, the service is slick and staff very attentive and friendly.

Just a short way down the coastal path about 300 metres you'll find the 'cave bar', go and check it out! Stunning cave and the service inside and out is good.

Apart from breakfast, which was slick and very well organised, and I might add had lots of choice; we didn't eat in the hotel, as, to be honest we didn't fancy anything on the menus. But that was our choice... The eggs (fried, poached and omelettes) are all cooked fresh by a very nice young man.

There are some shops a short walk from the hotel; as you come out the front walk over the road, follow the path, you'll see another hotel complex on the left, you'll see the bus stop on the other side of the road (where the No 6 leave and drops off), follow the path through the park, you'll see a restaurant on the right... You should try this out, its called the 'Komin', lovely food, great atmosphere, the staff (especially MIHO) are friendly, attentive and helpful, the food is excellent!!! The menu isn't huge, which is a good thing, it's all cooked on the grill. We ate here several times throughout our stay, the spicy sausages are fab, the slow cooked lamb (AKA cooked under the bell) is perfect, the steak is cooked to order and was juicy and tender, the chicken succulent and flavour sum and the sea bass perfection! MIHO, thank you for the salads! The deserts are also fab, especially the chocolate soufflé (although it's more like a fondant) it was delightful and had a nutty dimension to the coating mmmmmmm. Check out the reviews yourself on TA... You won't be disappointed.... The local wine is strong but crisp and very palatable indeed. The prices are very reasonable, we paid around £50-£60 each time we visited for 3 courses, wine and bottled water.

We also ate at a nice little taverna called 'OTTOS' down in Cruz Harbour, the No 6 bus enroute to the old town will take you past the harbour (you can walk, we did, takes about 30 minutes) We ate there twice, the menu is small but the quality of food excellent! The steak and polenta wonderful, the confit leg of duck devine and the sea bass light and full of flavour on a bed of broad beans and fennel. Again check out the reviews for yourself on TA... Also very reasonable prices, very similar to the Komin.

All in all we had a fantastic week in Croatia and would definitely return!

Room Tip: A room with a balcony is a must... Sea or land

We had a lovely standard room with ocean views, this hotel had four pools and a lovely area to lay on day beds in front of the water. You have beautiful views of the water as soon as your walk into the reception. You are only a 15 minute bus ride to old Dubrovnik which is magic.

Arrived before check in but in time for breakfast. Fell in love with the view of the ocean, deck chairs and pools immediately. Were kindly offered gluten free bread for sister with allergy. Very comfortable room, only complaint is we loved the outdoor area so much that we forgot to use the bath. Excellent service from all staff.

The most outstanding feature of this very good hotel is the staff who mange it. Not just the executives who are always available, especially Titania, but right through the spectrum of those with whom you may come in contact with.
The location is excellent on the Lapad peninsula. Excellent views out across the sea to some islands and the main estusry into Dubrovnik port. There are numerous places, oftrn seculded, where you can jsut turn off on sunbeds. Apart from the two pools you can swim in a protected sea ares. Being on a rock coat, facilities, such as bars & restaurants, are on a number of level. All are linked by lifts. The room we had was superb with a large balcony/terrace, bathroom with bath/shower and bidet although we are aware others were not so well furnished. Fridge/Minibar prices were the lowest we have ever found. The Ariston is part of a complex of three hotels aqnd you can use all three hotels charging sny expenses directly to your room.
The one downside to the hotel we felt was dining. Breakfasts were generally very good with a wide variety of items from which to choose. However if you are there for more that a day you will notice some inconsistency. A juicing machine and fruit were available for the beginning of out stay but this disappeared half way through - the machine had broken and they didn't have another one; on one day they had run out of butter; the toaster - there was only one- was incredibly slow and rather than toast the bread it just warmed it up. On the whole though breakfasts were very good and you never left hungry. The Zoe restaurant was the all day dining facility and while the quality of the food was good, and not expensive, it was not really exciting. Burgers, pizza, salads etc.The Mediterano Restaurant - in the same area as breakfast is served.- is both inside and on a very large terrace overlooking the sea. However the one meal we had there was very disappointing. It is buffet style and we found the cooked items to be rather mediocre; rubbery turkey kebabs, warm vegetables etc. This we feel is something the hotel need to improve. Also available in the adjacent hotel is the Castile Restaurant but that looked like a much more limited menu.
Fortunatly opposite the hotel is a beautiful little park within which is a wonderful restaurant, aptly named 'Komin'. The food here is excellent, very reasonably priced and a beautiful open area to spend the evening under the trees. At the other side of the park, 10 minutes walk, is a small shopping precinct with further restaurants.
Within 3 minutes of the hotel is the terminus of bus route 6 which takes you right into the main gate to the old city. The is very fortunate as you will always get a seat on a bus that fills up after one or two stops.
All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Been here for 2 weeks and had a wonderful stay at the Ariston. Lovely room (1302) with a massive balcony which was great if you wanted some privacy. The room itself was comfortable and very quiet at night so we both got a good nights sleep. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was tasty with plenty to choose from and the food at the Zoe restaurant was great. We both had a lovely time at the Ariston. Great hotel if you want a bit of peace and quiet away from the old town.
