“Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

One of only two hotels in the old town of Dubrovnik, the hotel Stari Grad is a real gem. Our room was clean and bright and overlooked the pantiled rooftops and across to a near-by church tower. The rooftop terrace is fantastic and provides a spectacular view across the whole of the city. We quickly established a routine of taking a bottle wine and nibbles up there for a pre-dinner aperitif! Fabulous!

“Location, Location, Location, and Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

My sister, cousin, and I stayed at Hotel Stari Grad for three nights October 18-21. We very much enjoyed our stay. The front desk staff was extremely pleasant, helpful, and spoke fluent English. They helped us lug our baggage up to our third floor rooms (the hotel has no lift). The double room I shared with my sister was nicely appointed, adequately spacious, and had a very nice, clean bathroom...although it had the smallest, most claustrophobic shower we experienced in all of Croatia. The WiFi Internet access, unfortunately, didn't always work from our room, but did from other parts of the hotel. Breakfast, served by the cafe next door, was a bit of a disappointment compared with the breakfasts we experienced in the rest of Croatia. The location, however, could not have been better. The Stari Grad is an easy walk from the Pile Gate, and mere steps away from the Strada (the main street in Old Town Dubrovnik). On weekend nights, the street noise was a bit loud, but this could easily have been solved by closing the window to the room (we left it open for ventilation). Also, at the top of the hotel is a terrace that has a beautiful, panoramic view of Dubrovnik. We had a ridiculously early flight out of Dubrovnik the day we left, but at 4:15 am the hotel had thoughtfully packed a sandwich, an apple, and juice ready for each us to take on our journey. If you want to stay in the heart of Old Town Dubrovnik surrounded by old world charm, Hotel Stari Grad is the place. We would gladly return!

“Great location -pity about the breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We booked the hotel for a final night after a holiday travelling round Croatia, and were looking forward to much talked about breakfast on the roof terrace. The roof terrace is wondeful, albeit a bit of a climb. Views over the roof tops, and you can watch people walking the walls-nowadays a one way, anti clockwise trip. The tables were still set as if for breakfast, but the new owners have, we were told, chnaged the regime. Instead of this wonderful setting, breakfast was in the cafe next door. It had rained in the night, and the cafe had not troubled to set ouitdoor seats, which might have helped - other street cafes were open. The welcome was muted, no smiles, a worn looking menu. We ordered crissants and coffee. The croissants were burnt on the outside and raw in the middle- served with a single small jam - the sort with a tear off top you don't mind in a cheap cafe. I couldn't tell what flavour it was. The coffee was cold. We gave up and went out for breakfast, despite it being included.

At 150 pounds for the room we expected better. The room was comfortable, lovely bed, big towels. The shower was one of those with three settings, overhead, jacuzzi style side jets or a hand held. The overhead was loose so the water went sideways.

The Stari Grad, just 8 rooms and located near the Pile gate and just off the Stradun, couldn't be better located.

The staff in the hotel were lovely, helpful and friendly. Pity this tone did not extend to the people providing breakfast.

Room Tip: The higher the lighter as the buidling is tall and the alley narrow, but there is no lift. About 80...

“You stay here when you are in Dubrovnik with Anna and Ehab”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Anna and Ehab took over this hotel first half of 2012 and they are wonderful hosts. Only 8 rooms in the heart of the old town where you can experience the texture of this ancient place. go to the roof terrace and look over the rooftops of Dubrovnik. We arrived in the old town at peak population crowd time around noon and our hosts suggested that we have lunch on the rooftop and venture out onto the streets after 1500. Just do it and then have dinner or twilight cocktails up there also. I thought bout dropping a notch off the rating because the lift that Anna and Ehab are planning was not there for our stay in July but with Ehab lugging the luggage there was no inconvenience for us.

Room Tip: all rooms have the same outlook that they had when the rich merchant of Dubrovnik built this town ho...

“Best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

The hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of the walled city. It was great to be able to pop back to the hotel for short breaks and to get away from the cruise ship crowds.
Fantastic roof top terrace with amazing views of Dubrovnik.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was nice but no frills, perhaps a little over-priced. Great stay overall!
