“Nice location for car-tourers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2009

Building is great (old venitian style villa), in the green scenery of Lapad quarter, and if you follow the pedestrians alley in front of the hotel, you'll find the beach.
Room was nice, with space, clean.
Breakfast was good, on the terrace.
Only drawback: the carpark is small and quickly full. But at least you can park in the area (which is absolutely not possible in Dubrovnik's historical center).

Old mansion converted to a hotel on walking street. An 8 kro bus ride to the old town. Fully controllable air conditioning, safe, no ground floor rooms and no elevators. No Kleenex or washcloths, no CNN or BBC. Internet access using their lobby computers $3 for 30 minutes but there are useable wi-fi signals from the south. We had Room 12, a suite with sitting room and western facing balcony. There is a tennis club right next door to the west and you can hear them hitting balls but it did not bother us. Reserved via e-mail from the hotel 99 euro with breakfast.

I stayed in this hotel together with my parents for a week. There were 3 of us and we were given a room which consisted of 2 rooms, with double bed in each, a balcony and and bathroom. It feels that the hotel was recently reinnovated, the rooms were clean and nice inside, each of 2 rooms had own air conditioner in it, the bathroom was large, with new equipment, bathtub, electric towel drier and hair drier. I have seen the insides of some other rooms - they were smaller, with shower stall instead of bathtub, but still clean and nice and. The hotel has about 30 rooms in 3 floors, no elevator, but you really don't need it there since the hotel is tiny. There was very polite attentive treatment from personell. The position of hotel was also satisfying - only 5 min by foot from the beach, in pedestrian zone, no car noise, on the other hand no restaurants right close to hotel walls- no noise and smells from them either. The bus stop with line bringing you to old city, little vegetable market and a supermarket were in close vicinity. I would recommend this hotel for older people who like quiet places, it is not luxurios, but quite value-for-money choice. I witnessed mostly old english- and german-speaking couples staying there together with us. My both parents are middle aged and they liked this hotel as well.

We walked in off the street to Hotel Zagreb to stay a night, as we hadn't anything booked. It stands out from the other hotels in that street in Lapad as it is older and looks more interesting.

It was smaller than expected inside, and our room was a pretty good size. Its not really high quality but it is decent enough. Our room was a bit dark as it didn't really have much of an outlook from the window. It was nice and comfortable though and everything worked well.

Breakfast was fairly average, self-service.

  • Liked — Good to stay in a local landmark hotel
  • Disliked — Not as spacious/high quality as might have expected.

The hotel was every bit as pretty as the website pictures situated on a beautiful and popular promenade which lead dierctly down to the beach.

We finished our trip around Croatia here and we did not regret it. The scenery around the hotel and from the beach was idyllic to say the least and for a pair of lovers like ourselves the walking trail around the coast edge past many beautifully situated cafes and restaurants made us wish we lived here.

The hotel was comfortable and spacious with good amenities and our room had a walk around balcony over looking the promenade.

Breakfast was probably the only aspect which was less than pleasing. Although the service was good and the food edible, we had had much better breakfasts at many other hotels during our trip. But for an all you can eat buffet it still does the job of filling the belly! :D

Our only reccomendation might be that if you wish to be closer to old town then maybe stay elsewhere than Lapad (which is the name of the area in Dubrovnik where many of the hotels are). Staying in the hotel zagreb, we became so enchanted by the beach and romantic trails/views and bustling promenade, we never actually made it down to old town to do any sight-seeing lol.

But on the whole this hotel is reasonable value for money!

Traveling alone to Dubrovnik, I stayed at the Hotel Zagreb for two weeks. Not quite sure what to expect, this being my first trip to both Croatia and Central Europe, I was delighted. The hotel itself is a delicious little specimen tucked into a suburb of sorts, outside of the old walled city. Ideally situated near a market, small shopping mall, the bus, taxis, and an amazing promenade down to a gorgeous beach and scenic walking area. My room was spacious and comfortable with A/C, plenty of closet space, a desk, cable TV, shower and private bath, huge European shuttered windows that opened onto a view of the surrounding hills and plenty of fresh air. Breakfast was simple and hearty. The staff was kind and friendly. Internet access for a reasonable fee in the lobby area. I loved the place and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Wouldn't even bother looking to see what else is out there on a return trip to the area, I so enjoyed my stay at the Zagreb.

Also, took two lovely day trips to the island of Korcula and the Bay of Kotor (in neighboring Montenegro) organized through the hotel with Elite Travel (nice, comfy bus). Would highly recommend both of these day trips and Elite Travel.

  • Liked — The location was ideal - close to the old walled city but away from the tourist throngs in the heart of local daily life.
  • Disliked — That I had to leave it and go home at the end of my two-week stay.

Very nice hotel on quiet walking street a short distance to the beach and a wonderful scenic small inlet. This hotel is about 2 miles from the old city, but the local bus stops 200 feet from the hotel and will take you to the old city at a very reasonable price. The hotel is very clean, the rooms kept up very well. The continental breakfast was excellent. Would definately stay there again.
