“Very good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Loved the location, short walk from the beach and short drive to the old town. Rooms are a bit outdated but since we stayed for only two nights it was ok, we initially chose the hotel because of the parking space but we enjoyed the stay so we could recomment the hotel to others too for a few nights stay. The staff was very friendly. If you are spending more than a few nights in Dubrovnik then I would not recommend the hotel since the rooms were very small and when it comes to a longer visit it could start to feel a bit cloustrofobic :)

Located in Lapad district of Dubrovnik, Hotel Sumratin is a basic but decent budget hotel in Croatia’s most famous city. I stayed there for 3 nights in late September 2013 and chose this hotel based on relatively good reviews and low rates.
Location is an advantage and a point of criticism alike. While Lapad district is quite a refined and popular place, it’s in far distance of the historical city center. Walking time is about 40 minutes however there are public buses operating regularly. Still, there are enough things to keep tourists occupied in the hotel’s surroundings: numerous cozy cafes and restaurants on pedestrianized Kralja Zvonimira street (which is in front of the Sumratin), small beaches, some limited shopping facilities and an attractive park with walking paths. Walking time to the main bus station and harbour is about 20 minutes (so much less than from the old town).
While there is nothing really bad to say about the hotel itself, there are still some weak points: first of all, it needs a facelift: furniture is old and partly worn, some items as the TV in my room or the public computer in the lobby did not work properly, the façade has probably not been renovated for decades (in contrast to the neighbouring hotel under the same management). Furthermore, it’s necessary to ask for a room not facing the street as windows are not soundproof. There is a restaurant in front of the hotel where loud music is played untill midnight (despite the lack of guests). Those who feel tired after a long day of sightseeing and want to get to bed earlier will surely have problems falling asleep.
On the positive side, my room had a decent size for a budget hotet and was equipped with everything necessary. The room and the property in general were clean and even the old furniture had a specific character. Staff were service- orientated and friendly. Breakfast was above average for a 2 star hotel.
While I would search for a hotel closer to the old town when in Dubrovnik next time, I do not regret having stayed at the Sumratin. It has its strong and weak points but is an acceptable place to stay for a short period.

Room Tip: not facing Kralja Zvonimira street because of loud music

Stayed 3 nights on Exodus group holiday. Crowded tourist area away from old town was off-putting initially, but soon realised that this was a good location - 4 minutes walk from small pebble beach wih nice walks available e.g. along peninsula to the "Cave Bar" at the Hotel More; easy access to old town via frequent (crowded) public bus (no.6) in about 10 minutes. Double room had odd layout, but perfectly adequate; ensuite a bit small, but clean and functional; no view (above service area) but quiet.
Criticism: lack of fresh fruit at breakfast - in fact the same apples (beginning to rot) and oranges (dried up) appeared on all three days; one squidgy kiwi fruit was left on display for at least 2 days. Otherwise a typical continental breakfast with plenty to eat.

Room Tip: Try to get a garden view; some had Juliet balconies I think.

The hotel is in a very attractive location with great outdoor seating and pleasant trees to look out on to from most rooms.Yes, it is slightly run-down and dated, but that is part of its charm and quite common in Croatia. Don't let that put you off. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was nothing special, but quite adequate. Wifi was working perfectly on the ground floor. There was no problem leaving bags for the day at the reception. Rooms may not be quite as big as some hotels but most people will find them quite adequate.
Visit this hotel soon before a multi-national hotel chain buys it up, refurbishes it and then charges ten times the price !

For staying in Dubrovnik I recommend apartment hotels because the area has good markets for breakfast.
Sumratin is worth for 2 stars. Nothing less nothing more. Great location near beach. Wifi worked ok. Partly renovated bathrooms mean that few tiles were changed and sink also. Rooms are small, balcany makes it little bit bigger. There wasn't fridge or hair dryer. Breakfast was quite poor.
Ok hotel for few nights.

We booked this hotel for one night and we were really disappointed that we already had booked another hotel (for about the same money but which ended up being a lot worse) and the other hotel did not let us cancel our booking. Hotel Sumratin was really nice with a lovely and very clean room. (the superior double with park view). It is slightly farther from the beach than for example hotel Vis or hotel Adriatic but only a couple of minutes walk, literally. Personally, I would have stayed in this one for the rest of my stay if I could have. If you can get a good deal on that room as we did it is definitely worth it.

Room Tip: A very good room is the superior double room with park view.

Rooms are very small and the bathroom is very small. There are much better Bed and Breaksfast along Croatia which offer better facilities for a cheaper price. There were not WiFi is our room and everyday they were telling to me that it was because they had problems with internet and that maybe next day it will be solved. The true is that I left and in my room there were not internet.
Breakfast is very poor and the orange juice is orange water.
The hotel is very old and look like it was a good one long time ago.
The poeple who work in the hotel are very nice and it is well located if you go by car. It is around 3,5 km from the old city.
