To see the Old Town from up on the hill behind it, was amazing in the dayatime but especially at night. What a sight. A jewel to be seen indeed.
To be in the old town was magical. It is so well perserved and not overrun with the "touristic thing" as much as some places we have seen, (ie Diocletian Palace in Split). Do walk the wall in it's entirety - there are different sites to behold from different spots. I have a bad knee and had to take breaks every now and again, but it was certainly doable, (hint - go down the stairs backwards if you have knee issues - it really helps).
The pictures I took did not do the place justice. It's nice to see life carry on almost as normal within the walls. There are some 2,000 actual residents living there. You can see them going about their daily chores, hanging laundry, children playing - a living breathing old town. Some ruins abound, but hay it is old.
We were there during slow season so it was nice that the place was not swarming, and the weather was very pleasant.
If you are a cat lover, you will love this place, and Croatia in general - they abound in every nook and cranny and every where else too.
We had a bite to eat and did not find the prices exhorbitant. Staying at the Hilton made for a very easy walk to the old gates.
Wander about, get lost and somehow you manage to find yourself in the same place you were half an hour ago. We spent pretty well the whole day here and loved every minute of it.
There is a lovely place on the edge of the cliff to have a cool drink and just chill. It is described as "The best View Around" and it is a fantastic view. Take a break and enjoy a beverage and the beautiful view.
