“A good 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

We have just returned from spending a week at the Tirena and must say overall it's a very good hotel. The rooms are very comfortable with large bed, good sized bathroom, mini bar, hair dryer. My only niggle regarding the room is that the towels in the bathroom have seen better days and are very thin and small. We went at the end of June when it was very hot and the air conditioning was a bit feeble. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice however if you can manage to get a table outside its much quieter as the main resturant can get very noisy. The pool area was fantastic with plenty of sun beds to choose from and towels. The poolside bar also very good and reasonably priced for food and drink. All the staff were very helpful and a credit to the hotel. The bus service into Dubrovnik is every 15 minutes but buy your tickets from the shop or reception in hotel. At the back of the hotel is a pathway that takes you to the bus station. If you are feeling adventurous follow the signs towards the Hotel Neptune and you find the coastal pathway which a a fabulous walk with a plethora of bars and restaurants and takes you to Lapad. Our favourite was the cave bar and restaurant the setting is amazing overlooking the Agean sea. All in all a lovely week.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Tirena Dubrovnik, and I wish it had been longer.

The hotel (although being 3 star) was lovely. It is well situated to get a bus into Dubrovnik which only takes 10/15 minutes (1 hour to walk if you're feeling energetic-which we did!). If you buy the tickets at the hotel, they cost 12 kuna (apparently its 15 kuna on the bus). I believe 1 ticket is one way.

The hotel pool is lovely. It was never busy that there were no beds available. You can get towels for the beds if you wish. What I loved was there was none of this 'reserving your bed at the crack of dawn'. We went to the pool for 12 noon and there were still plenty of beds. The pool and area around it are lovely and clean. I understand it is also used by other hotels. There is a beautiful beach which is rocky, but the sea is so clear and there are places to sit or place sun loungers.

Make sure while you're there to go to Dubrovnik and try the cable car to the top of the mountain and do the wall walk. They cost 100 Kuna (approx. £11) and the views are spectacular. At the top of the mountain, there is a museum dedicated to the Croatian war (entry 30 Kuna), and its well worth seeing. It might seem pricy, but its no different anywhere else.

The food in the hotel is buffet. Its fine, plenty of choice. I'd be surprised if you found you didnt like some of the food. They did cater for everything and everyone. What did make me laugh though was hazelnut ice-cream turned out to be some sort of punch on some occasions, and punch was hazelnut.

The staff were so friendly. There was always a smile when you approached them.

It was a shame our room didn't have a balcony, but hey ho. We didn't spend much time in the room, but just to chill before dinner would have been nice. But it didn't spoil the holiday at all.

The only one small complaint........people tended to be quite noisy going back to their rooms at night or early in the morning. A little consideration goes a long way. But once again, it wasn't bad that it spoilt our holiday.

Id also say the 'arcade' near the hotel is very limited. You have a few bars (do not order an Irish Coffee...it was made with squirty cream and was disgusting), and very small shops. If you can be bothered after dinner, go into Dubrovnik, much more to do and see.

On the whole, I'd recommend the hotel and area. It was a lovely holiday and I hope to go back for a last minute deal.....thank you!!!!!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the outside dining area....it was fine, quite quiet really apart from seagulls.

Enjoyed a four night stay here last week. Staff were all in the right jobs! The dining room staff were excellent and were a pleasure to be around
The food was always plentiful looked good and the only fault I would have was the fruit wasn't always available. I do not blame the hotel for that I blaming the guests who were stealing it for later.
Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Tirena hotel is a very good and comfortable hotel 6 km from Dubrovnic.
The food is very good. Breakfast and dinner are buffets.
The location is outside Dubrovnic, but busnr 6 stops nearby the hotel and takes you to The old city.
You can buy a busticket in the bus for 15 Kuna, but in the souvenir shop in the hotel you can buy a bus ticket for only 12 kuna. The ticket is valid for one hour. And the bus is also driving at night till 02.30 hours.
Animation in the hotel is more for elderly people, but we always walk to Valamar Club next door.
At daylight we went to the swimming pool there and in the evening around 2100 hrs we visit the shows of Valamar Club.
The animation team there is really fantastic!
Of course you can also swim at Tirena, that is more quite than the Club.
All the facilities of the Club are free for the guests of Tirena.
The WIFI is very bad!! It is very slow or brake down every minute.
There are also a lot of cats around the hotel, even in the patio during our dinner!
I do not like that so much!
The staff is very friendly and helpfull.

Room Tip: The best rooms are those with sea view. Roomnrs. 311-312-313 or 411-412-413

Dear guests,
We’d like to thank you for taking the time to share your review of your stay and for sharing all your kind words about your visit. It sounds like you were able to enjoy all the best that Valamar hotels and Resorts offer in Dubrovnik and I am happy that you have enjoyed animation shows in our sister hotel. I am sorry to hear about the WI-fi problem as we are working our best to fix any reported issues with it.
We hope to welcome you back to hotel Tirena in the near future. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

We stayed here for 4 nights a part of a coach trip. The hotel is large and part of a complex built during the Communist era but has since been modernised. The reception area is large, light and airy. The staff are very friendly although on the day we checked out there was no-one to be seen for about 15 minutes!
Our room was on the same level as reception and was a good size. It overlooked the poll and had lovely views although it could be noisy at times. The beds were large and comfortable although the pillows were very soft. A request for a firmer pillow was ignored. There was plenty of wardrobe space and a free safe.
The bathroom was large with a nice shower in the bath. Towels were changed everyday although they were quite small. The bathroom door locked itself during our first night but fortunately the receptionist was able to fix it immediately. He promised to get it fixed by maintainance but that never happened.
Meals were eaten in the dining room downstairs from reception. It resembled a works canteen and was extremely noisy at busy times, it could really do with soundproofing. It's better if you can get a table outside as it's much quieter. The food was very good with freshly cooked eggs, meat etc at breakfast and dinner. There was always a very good choice.
The hotel was connected to the other hotels in the group by shops and bars. Although the hotel was outside Dubrovnik it was easy to get the number 6 bus which ran every 10 minutes. It's easier to get bus tickets from the hotel shop than pay on the bus.
The bar and terrace were very pleasant and prices weren't too high. There was entertainment every evening which was variable. We had a drinks reception on our last evening which went down well.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the same floor as reception away from the bar which can be very noisy

Stayed here for three nights while visiting Dubrovnik. Staff was always very friendly and happy to help with anything. Dita, at reception, was so accommodating when we checked in and requested a room change for a sea view. The pool was great. The food options at the pool are average but the drink selection is good. Easy to take the bus into the old town. Large selection to choose from at breakfast. Very clean rooms. Had a great stay here and would recommend!

We stayed there for three nights in room 326. The check-in area is spacious, light, warm and inviting with plenty of room to move around and book in tourists. It is in the Bubin Kuk area of Dubrovnik but the bus runs every 15 minutes on the hour and you can pick it up in two very close locations near the hotel. The preferred spot for me was at the back of the hotel and through the park--just follow the signs--because it is the 1st and last stop on the bus route so you will always get a seat. It takes you directly to the entrance to Old Town Dubrovnik and you pick it up across the street to return to the hotel. The cost is 24 kuna RT and you can pick up the ticket at the little shop in the lobby of the hotel which will expedite getting on/off. Another tip is to put the ticket with the white side UP into the machine when you get on the bus! It's only a 15-minute trip.

When we went to the room, we could not figure out the TV or how to close the doors. We went downstairs and requested help. Someone knocked on the door within minutes and we got it sorted out. BTW-the door handles should be facing down and brought up to or down together to open or close.

The bed was comfortable. We travel with our own pillows. It was clean, spacious and we had a balcony. The bathroom sink did drain slowly. There is a safe in the closet and plenty of storage. there is also a small fridge stocked with items to buy.

The first night we ate the buffet which cost €15/ea. ($20.) and included everything you would expect. The salad area was good. There was medium rare beef, grilled chicken and pork and several potatoes to try and other veggies. We did not eat any other nights simply because you always eat too much at a buffet. It was simply prepared food and nothing gourmet.

Our room included breakfast which also had everything for a healthy start to the day. The chefs or Europeans like their eggs very well done so I gave instructions to the chef when to take mine off the grill because it was done--no problem. The first day I had an omlette and the other days just one egg over easy. Good selection of breads are available, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, etc.

The pool is huge but I don't think it's heated. There is a swim-up bar, covered area in case it rains, a snack bar and a lovely setting to enjoy.

There is a nice lobby bar with a patio area and a TV for watching the World Cup games. Prices are VERY reasonable and they do not gouge you by overpricing drinks. Parking is convenient too and NO EXTRA CHARGE. We also had live entertainment by a singer who was good.

It's a huge hotel and I think very well run. The staff always greeted us and smiled! They all spoke very good English and were good at anticipating your needs. We had just come from touring Italy and Italians should come here for training!!! All of the employees appeared to enjoy their job. It was such a pleasant experience and I hope they continue this excellent service practice and do not make me look like a fool if you choose this hotel and find a different experience.
