We went to a great beach, Sveti Jakov Beach, at the opposite side of a bay from Dubrovnik. It was a car drive with a steep set of about 80 stairs to get down to the beach. We went first thing and got good morning light. The water was wonderful and the views were great. Of course, like almost all beaches in Croatia, it was composed of round rocks and pebbles not sand. If you wear water shoes, it is not a problem. I brought my snorkel mask and tube, but there was no reason to use it. The water was very clear and the sight under water did not warrant it. We got great photos with Dubrovnik in the background.

This was one of our excursions on a Mediterranean Cruise. Different experience from the typical sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean/Caribbean. It is covered with pebbles/rocks in and out of the water. I felt water shoes were necessary, but a local might say differently. The water was beautifuly clear! Fantastic photo ops with the back drop of the rock formation and cliff. Although we arrived by boat, there is an amazing rock staircase that leads up to the street.

What a spectacular beach. After a few hours of walking through the old city, you will definitely be in need of a place to cool off. The beach is very secluded and has lovely warm, calm water to relax in. There is a beach bar, and a restaurant, that makes fabulous calamari. You can rent out deck chairs and umbrellas. We did this as part of a cruise excursion, so we did not have to pay for the chairs or umbrellas. There are beautiful views of the old city from the beach. This is the spot to be.
