“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights in September 2012. Located next to the sea with a great view and beach and large swimming area. The room was in need of thorough cleaning. The aircondition worked and was quiet. The breakfast buffet is fine.

The hotel and staff are lovely, everything spotlessly clean which was pleasing. However we did wonder how a hotel without a pool has got three stars.? We were informed that we could use the pool at the sister hotel Uvala for a charge of 50 kunar per day but decided not to waste our money after we looked at it. There are 42 steps from the road down to the front entrance or a very steep slope so beware if you have walking difficulties because there are no lifts and the brochures do not mention this or the lack of a pool. Also the beach area is reached by steps and the pebbles are very sharp to walk on so take some protective footwear with you- we didn't and it will cost you about 50 kunar to buy some locally. The breakfasts- if you must have a full english you will be dissapointed.!We swayed towards the continental side after the first day and always found enough to eat. Salads in the evening were delicious and the hot dishes were also good. Desert was always cake, cake or sliced pineapple-ok if you like it or you could ask for ice cream. The coffee needs to be experimented with mixing your own. The best way to make it we found was to use a spoonful of dry coffee and just fill the cup with the hot milk from the machine-it was drinkable that way.!
On the whole it wasn't a bad holiday but like i said, how does it rate three stars without a pool? I'm glad i didn't take any children.

Traveled with a group of 14 female friends for a long weekend. The hotel was in an excellent position with a beautiful view of the coast. There was a bus stop just outside the hotel with a bus running into the old town every 15 minutes. The food was what you would expect for a 3 star hotel but the restaurant was over run with cats! The only downside of this hotel was the male waiting staff. Although some of them were OK there were a few that were very creepy and pushy! One waiter in at least his 50' propositioned one of our party who was sitting on her own and was insistent that she meet with him after his shift, something which she clearly did not want. The same staff could clearly be seen looking up at the bedroom windows every evening hoping to catch a glimpse! The other thing to be aware of is that this hotel does not have twin rooms although we had booked them, double beds for everyone! I would recommend this hotel for people looking to explore the city and not wanting to spend too much time in their hotel!

First trip to Croatia and we were not disappointed.
Lovely hotel - room with patio overlooking the opposite coastline - wonderful.
Food - catering for every taste and Lucy even spoiled us with ice-cream and butter with our bread from the fourth night!
Staff were all great - from reception 'Good Morning', to Peter the Restaurant Manager, not forgetting Lucy our waitress.
Location brilliant - very quiet and bed comfortable so slept well everynight - even through a thunderstorm! Bus stop outside the hotel door - just 15 mins into Dubrovnik.
Recommend the 3 Island boat trip - lovely unspoilt Islands, as well as trip to Cavtat a must - we walked round both penninsulas - did get tangled up in Hotel Croatia and ended up walking through the hotel to get back to Cavtat - better signage here would have been good!
Beach bar at hotel gave good service - what can be better than lying in the sunshine, reading a good book and drinking a cold beer!
Would certainly recommend the Hotel Splendid and would love to return.

Sally and Roy

Room Tip: Believe all had sea views and do not think any are noisy.

After a horror trip we arrived at hotel splendid at 4.00am in the morning to a black out.
Staff on hand were waiting for us and guided us to our room with candles lit due to blackout.
The hotel is old school but has a great casual feel.
We had a sea view room four four nights and loved it so much we rearranged our itineray to stay other night.
The hotel has a private beach and two fantastic terraced areas one of which we enjoyed breakfast on outside every day
Durin our days we explored Dubvronik as any tourist would and we found no other hotels that we would have preferred to stay in
Splendid is located in the Lapad bay which while it is out of town, busses are every 20 minutes from out the from and it was much quieter that being in the what is essentially a very crowded tourist mecca.
If you don't mind things a little older this mid priced hotel is very comfortable with friendly staff (family owned we think) and comes highly recommended

Room Tip: Get a room with water views it is worth the little extra

We stayed at the Hotel Splendid for a week in September 2012. I had originally been researching many of the 5* hotels in Dubrovnik as the trip was for our wedding anniversary, however, these were beyond our current budget.

We were not disappointed with the Hotel Splendid. The hotel is constructed so that all rooms have a view of the sea/bay. Yes, it is a slightly old-fashioned style but the rooms and balconies are a good size, we had a king-sized bed and the location is quiet, so I slept like a baby! The rooms are maintained to a good level of cleanliness and serviced every day. The reception and bar/restaurant staff are polite and very helpful.

We found that there was a good range of hot and cold choices of food available for breakfast, even on a day when we came down very late. We did not eat in the restaurant or the hotel's outside terrace snack bar as we preferred to get out and about, however as an observation the menu/food available at the outside terrace bar looked very tempting.

Other reviewers have mentioned that the coffee available at breakfast isn't great. It isn't, but it was much better than coffee that we've been given in similar 3* establishments in Malta and Italy on previous holidays. In addition to the coffee machine, the hotel provides a jar of Nescafe at breakfast so that us Brits can make a familiar brew if needed. The lounge/bar also provides super Lavazza coffee at a reasonably cheap price.

We would certainly recommend Hotel Splendid as a good, value for money base while staying in Dubrovnik.

The weather was a bit cooler than expected when we were in Croatia so we did not actually need to use the air conditioning at all.

Room Tip: All rooms at Hotel Splendid have a balcony which faces the sea/bay.

Spent a week here from 19th August - 26th. It is in a great location and the staff are really friendly and always happy to help. Bus stop outside takes you straight into old town in 10 minutes, you can buy a bus ticket from front desk which is cheaper than buying on the bus.
Breakfast was the only meal we ate here and we didnt bother quite a few mornings as it is such a disappointment, coffee comes out of a machine and doesnt taste life coffee, orange juice is cheap and nasty, no fresh fruit and the shame is that it would be so easy to rectify this.
You have to pay £3.50 equivalent each day for your sun-bed and the sun lounger area is open to the public. This area of the hotel became very crowded in the afternoons, particularly with teenagers, who in fairness to them are as much entitled to enjoy the area as anyone else, but while we were there some young guys vandalised the changing area and no one from the hotel seemed to notice or intervene until a local gentleman came along and told them off and sent them packing.
The sea is beautiful and the water is so clear, not like anything i have ever seen before. Dubrovnik itself is gorgeous. The two Buza bars outside the city walls are a must for drinking a beer and watching the sun set.
The hotel itself is not an attractive building but the rooms are clean and functional and the vewis from the balcony are lovely. It is a perfectly adequate hotel for what it costs but it is crying out for redevelopment.
