“Convenient, clean, family friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Hotel Lero is about a 15-20 minute walk to downtown Dubrovnik (turn left at lobby exit and follow the sea to town for best views) and just a few minutes away from a nice rocky beach across the street. We stayed in the corner family room which had 2 rooms, two TVs and 2 refrigerators. It also had 2 air condition controls. Exchange rate at the lobby was fair and the dinner buffet was excellent - best value we found in the city. Very friendly servers in the restaurant. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel Lero is rated as three star, but is certainly at the top end of three star or better. Recently refurbished and with more improvements in progress it's bright, clean and comfortable. Located about 1.5km from the old city centre it is a 15 to 20 minute route march, or a 25 minute stroll. A bit longer to get back as it's mostly uphill. If you don't want to walk you can get the number 4 bus from outside the hotel. Also, about 15 minutes walk in the other direction to the new port at Gruz. The only meal that we had was breakfast, which was fine. Great restaurant, Magellan just down the road about 200m.

Room Tip: No real sea views as it's about 0.5km from the sea across a valley, but for the best views ask f...

Everything was to our liking clean room excellent service breakfast and dinner mouthwatering.Only drawback a bit distant from old city but if one wants to keep fit as I am would not hesitate to walk 20 minutes to reach the gem of Dubrovnik.

This hotel offers excellent value for money. It is spotlessly clean and comfortable although it is a good idea to ask for a room at the back of the hotel if you are troubled by noise as the front of the hotel is on a very busy main road. This did not bother us and we spend four very nice days there - very adequate breakfast with helpful staff.

I admit that as we drove up to this somewhat monstrous-looking building, I thought "This is the first not-great hotel we will have stayed in during our trip to Croatia", and this thought continued as I walked in the lobby, slightly modified to "This looks like some of those hotels I don't like when I am traveling on business in Turkey". But we had a great room! It was a corner suite, very light, very comfortable. We actually kind of liked the 20-minute walk to the Old City each time we went. Perhaps we should always be required to walk 20 minutes before and after a meal? Buses stop nearby, so you don't have to walk to/from the old part of town. The breakfast at the hotel was extensive (all the usual stuff), and the staff were nice. We were very satisfied with our stay here, despite the total lack of charm of the building itself.

I was wary of staying here as I knew it was not in the centre of town and an uphill return walk, but the bus which stops virtually outside made a trip back and forth to the centre prettty easy and they are quite frequent. The hotel has an executive floor which is worth paying for as the rooms are bigger and have a small balcony but as this is still over a busy road you would not want to spend to much time there. Our room was clean and comfortable. My real gripe would be the bathroom where there was enough room to fit a good shower one end - instead was a toilet which was lost in the space and a tiny bath the other end with a shower fitted in it. It had a fixed glass door and the bath was high so for me getting in and out was difficult. as I had a knee injury. The non updated rooms on floors below just had showers - so why they think 'executives' need a bath is beyond me - clearly not well thought out.. Breakfast was adequate but not amazing.
In October it was more or less getting to the end of the season and the bar every night was pretty dead. My tips:
For some atmosphere head across the road to the Magellan restaurant where I had the best steak ever, or for an amazing view over the cliffs head down the road to the Bellevue Hotel and take a cocktail on the terrace.
Don't bother with the Montenegro/Budva trip up at the crack of dawn, and out for around 12 hours most of which on a long coach journey with far too many border control points/checks which eats up the day. No point in visiting a medieval town when the best one is on your doorstep. Instead do one of the many boat trips to the islands - a lovely relaxing time and so so pretty. The ferry to Cavtat is also worth a day trip too as is the cable car for a great view of the city and wonderful sunsets. Best time to be in Dubrovnik city is when the cruiseline parties have left the town after 2pm. We were there late October and were very lucky with the weather even so late in the year.

Room Tip: Book room on the executive floor.
