“Definitely going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

We spent a fantastic week at the Lapad in June 2013 and cannot speak highly enough of the facilities and the staff. We decided to go half board and the extra 20 Euros pp per night was excellent value. A varied menu full of excellent choices. The Old City is easily accessible by bus and is also a very pleasant walk. There are many guided tours in the Old City and also to Mostar, Montenegro, nearby Islands etc, as well as concerts, many of which can be booked either through the Hotel or with firms close by. The open air bar by the pool, overlooking the port, is a lovely relaxing way to finish your day's activities.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are very quiet.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week's stay at Hotel Lapad. The location is quiet and beautiful. It is ideal as it is just a 10 minute bus ride from the old town, so you are away from the busy town but not too far away.

The staff are all so helpful and friendly, especially on reception. I would like to say a big thank you to you all especially Lea who went out of her way to help us find the perfect evening romantic sunset cruise.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and immaculate and we could not find fault anywhere. We had a room at the front of the hotel (in the old part) which had a beautiful view overlooking the sea and we could see the cruise ships arriving and departing. Yes the rooms are rather small but this is out-weighed by the modern decor and furnishings which are impressive. The pool area is lovely and a very relaxing sunbathing area.

We were on a bed and breakfast basis. The buffet breakfast was very good with an excellent choice. We often had lunch by the pool, again we found the food very good and excellent service.

There are good eating places within walking distance to the hotel so you don't need to always go into the old town to eat. Our favourite place to eat was called Pivnica Dubrava which the hotel recommended to us, which is a short bus ride away. The restaurant is typically Croatian and is excellent for barbecued steaks and fish which are served with to die for chips. It was also very reasonably priced.

Thank you Hotel Lapad for making our holiday so special. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will return.

Room Tip: Would recommend a room at the front of the hotel in the old part.

Just got back from a wonderful stay in the Lapad hotel. My party consisted of 7 ladies so we had 2 double rooms and a treble room. The treble room that i was staying in was comfortable with plenty of room and a seating area outside with a spectacular view of the sea for evening drinks. Check in was easy and friendly and our luggage was taken up to the room. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Fantastic location with a bus stop opposite the hotel and even the boat that we booked for a day trip was able to pick us up from outside the hotel. Walked into the old city which took about 25 minutes. Pool area was clean with plenty of sun beds to relax on and a patio area that was more shaded if needed. Breakfast was plentyful with a wide choice for everyone. Lapad beach was a 15 minute walk which was lovely and safe for young children and you are literaturally sitting on the waters edge. Nice restaurant and bars are near the beach. Would highly recommend a boat trip to visit the other beautiful islands. Check out went smoothly with 7 people individual paying there bills. Never been to this part of the world before but will definately be coming back sometime!!!!

This hotel was very, very nice - top quality. Only one or two minor niggles but didn't deter from the holiday. The first is the size of the room - in the new wing they are small so it is a MUST to keep them tidy. Do that and you are on to a winner. Secondly the balcony is very small - only one chair - if you are inventive you can manage to get the dressing table chair on there too! Thirdly - a few missing smiles from some of the staff but most were great! Now on to the more positives. This hotel is immaculately clean, the food is very good. We stayed half board for 10 days and were not bored with the food at all. Be careful of the salt though - everything is well seasoned and the veg can be a little overcooked - otherwise it was lovely and the salads and desserts are to die for. The position of the hotel is great - good views across Gruz harbour of the cruise ships. A small walk uphill took you to the centre of Lapad where there are plenty of bars and restaurants and paths leading to Lapad and Copacabana Beaches. The bus stops outside the hotel and tickets to the Old Town can be bought at reception. The pool is cold but easily got used to. In our experience there were plenty of sun beds - ask the attendant and he'll find you one. Poolside towels a good touch! Be warned - you are not likely to be able to keep your room after 1pm on day of departure. I asked the day before and there were rooms available on our departure day but we were not allowed one so had to get washed in the loos in the 'conference centre'. We did offer to pay, which the receptionist said we could do, but when she went into the office to check she came back and had changed her mind. However, we were allowed to stay by the pool, have a meal and use the conference room bathroom so no real hardship. Ask for a discount for trips from hotel and if you pay cash you might get 10% off - we did. The only reason I gave the rooms a score of 4 and the sleep quality was that the beds are a little firm, the rooms small and there are no tea and coffee making facilities. Apologies if I sound negative but I am just trying to be realistic. Without doubt I would stay here again.

We have just returned from a week in Dubrovnik and were delighted with the Hotel Lapad. We prefer staying a little away from the hustle & bustle and our research here paid off, the old town is a leisurely 20 minute walk which we enjoyed most days, but as others have commented, the local bus provides a perfect alternative if less inlined to walk. A taxi is around £8, and we usually taxied home after dinner. The breakfast was exceptional, something for everyone and all to a very high standard. We generally headed into the old town for dinner but there are a good selection of restaurants near the hotel, would recommend the Blidinje which is just a few doors down the road, good local food, very reasonably priced with an excellent terrace overlooking the harbour.

The room was beautiful and immaculate, we stayed in a classic room with partial sea view which we knew was to be small, but we were pleasantly surprised with the size. Perfectly adequate, the balcony is small but still nice to have, to look out to the harbour and we just used the small table as a stool to provide 2 seats!

We found all the staff to be excellent, very professional, polite and attentive.

We really fell in love with this part of the world and so am sure we will be back!

Room Tip: Don't be put off that your room is in the 'annexe', the standard of rooms is very high...

We stayed at Hotel Lapad for the first week of June on a Thomson A la carte holiday. Before I booked I read the Trip Advisor reviews and thought it would be as reviewed. No chance!
I think some facts are necessary:-
1. To get to and from the rooms in the annexe you need to take two lifts.
2. The annexe rooms are very small, mainly have a balcony with just one chair and a wardrobe in which we could have put our clothes if we had been staying for a couple of days but no longer. There is room for five or six coat hangers.
We had to pay to upgrade to a superior room which, like all the superior rooms, had no balcony and, whilst clean, was an annoying room with the lights and air conditioning controlled by a wall mounted control pad which was difficult to use.
3. If you find the tea very weak (which you would), don't ask for an extra teabag in the bar as you will be charged for two cups of tea.
4. Despite what is stated there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
5. The Wi-Fi, which is stated as being available in all rooms, was not available in either or the two rooms we had and my husband had to sit in the corridor to get a connection.
6. We found the dinner to be dreadful, with little choice and poor quality, overcooked food. Despite all the reviews we cannot imagine how anyone could speak highly of the dinner. We lasted two days before going out to restaurants to eat as did most of the other guests to whom we spoke. Breakfast was certainly not good even for a 4 star hotel, only pancakes were freshly cooked (sometimes) and there was no chef to freshly cook omelettes, poached or fried eggs. The breakfasts were adequate but boring after a few days of eating the same things.
7. Having abandoned dinner no one in the hotel (staff or Thomson rep) tells you that you can swap dinner for lunch. We found out from another guest - and what a revelation! Lunch is in the main restaurant but is freshly cooked to order and excellent. It was just a shame that we missed out for days because we were not told of the option to change dinner for lunch.
8.For a 4 star hotel it is poor that there is no lounge other than the bar and terrace bar area. This was not a problem for us but can imagine that there might be guests who would feel uneasy just sitting in a bar with no drinks when everyone around them was drinking. There is an odd building through which you have to go to exit the hotel and we noticed a small lounge area in there but never saw anyone sitting there and we wouldn't want to either.
9. Our general impression of the staff was that they could have been better trained. Some were very good, friendly and efficient, but others just seemed to stand around but do little. For example we would, when we arrived, have liked to have had our luggage taken to our room. This was not offered, despite the fact that fit and able staff were standing around. We saw a number of elderly guests seemingly struggling with luggage.

In all it was a disappointment rather than a disaster. We shall not visit again.

Lovely hotel with personal service. Staff knowledgeable and helpful. Cool escape from the heat of summer. Air conditioning in room quiet and very effective. Peaceful waterside location, but local bus, although very busy, offers regular connection to city.

Room Tip: Tea and coffee making facilities only available in some rooms. If this important confirm the room yo...
