“Stunning Location a little gem. Not good if you are imobile lots of steps.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

Stunning location very quiet setting with amazing views
Lots of steps up to your room.
We went at the beginning of the season would like to think Boris and his team have perfected the booking system for alacarte dining wasn't doing enough covers back in May. We were unfortunate enough to miss out because the restaurant was booked up days in advance although we did experience eating at the fabulous Bay restaurant which was fantastic.
Would we go back. Definitely.

The resort has such potential but can only judge about half due to not being able to use a number of facilities. Cause ... the much mentioned pervading sewerage smell that seems to impact a number of areas.
The Island itself is 30 mins from Dubrovnik by ferry and it seems to have its own micro climate . When clouds rolled in across the mainland the Island remained sunny.. It's position on a sandy , sheltered bay of course does make it a magnet for day boat trips but in the main this does not affect the resort end of the beach. Only irritation was the hotel decided to hire sun beds to non residents for about £4 / day. When we were there there was also a school trip and as there are a number of apartments scattered around don't expect there to be no children about on the beach. We had a few windy days and there were a number of parasols falling over onto people as they were very light weight. this followed a pattern of starting about 3 pm. We ended up finding some packing tape and tying ours to the sun bed that worked ! The water is crystal clear and there are a number of fish to see.
We had a sea view (625) a perfect view of the bay but as the whiff was so bad at our end of the hotel we couldn't sit out on balcony which was such a shame.
There is also a sky massage area, something we would have used but for fact t was directly behind the sewerage treatment plant, We saw no one using it due to its position. The cocktail bar was also out of bounds for us due to the smell. We managed a couple of minutes at the managers cocktail party , same area, but couldn't stop. Some people did use this bar but they to us must have had severely dulled olfactory senses. A managers staff meeting in this area caused us a few giggles as they were sitting holding their noses!! Not funny really!!Our Rep also said he had complained to his regional manager as it makes him feel sick! The hotel is trying to resolve but are limited until end of season( sept) as it will require major works.
We used the buffet restaurant 5 days and we found the choice and quality brilliant. The salad choice and hot selections were always varied we didn't find any issues with meat quality and were impressed by presentation and the well considered variety . the Hotel has sent two chefs from the Mexico Karisma to start things off & we were always content with the quality and choice. There was a nice themed Belgian Chocolate evening which we enjoyed. We further used the Bay restaurant a short walk along prom but also part of the AI package .It was a nice change and a different offering which was enjoyable . We cancelled our booking at the open air 'Al Fresco' due to smell blowing over. Nice touches: the cocktail of the day. Some evening entertainment, good soloist- Maya and jazz group in particular. We used the games room , card tables, pool and darts- No pong in there! Highlights location, and resort staff- all well trained and courteous , Genuinely helpful and thoughtful- a credit to the resort.. Please, please, please sort out the sewerage smell it really took edge off what could have been a top holiday with friends. Tips . Local boatman - Mattias =very reasonable hourly rate took us to the blue caves and around Island. Trip to old city > take cable car early its really hot up there !! less folk means less squashed in cable car ! Use advice of reps who know when less cruise boats are there can make a huge difference in the volumes milling around less on Wednesday / Thursday

Room Tip: Try to keep away from the treatment plant we were certainly affected area Block 6 although view stu...

Kalamota has some good points but they are over ridden by the not so great .
Good
The Bay Restaurant nice food great service and it's the only place in the resort with enough room .
Service generally is efficient polite and friendly .
Everywhere is clean.
Food is good the wines are very drinkable and everything is included in the all inclusive .
Bad
This is sold as a romantic couples resort . Sunbeds around the pool and on the beach are barely six inches apart . Tables at all restaurants other than the bay are similar .
Rooms are more travel lodge than romantic get away , we had upgraded to superior but it was small and sparse the bathroom was claustrophobic you had to close the door to get in the shower . The balcony just fitted two small white plastic chairs but was not a comfy place to relax for a chat . This all meant that it was impossible to have private conversations anywhere ,
Everyone mentions the horrid smell that frequently wafts around it's still there and we saw no activity re addressing it . Maintenance wise one of the bedside lights was missing when we arrived with bare live wires hanging out of the wall .
I think Thomsons and Karisma have well and truly overrated this place .

wow fantastic holiday. My partner and i were here for a week from 29th June this year. Miss it already. Staff top notch and the resort was spotless, also food wonderful ( 5 lbs on so must have been good ) we loved it and cant stop talking about how wonderful it was. My partner did say that he would have liked a sports room as he missed a lot of the world cup due to the sun shining on the big TV. Blinds could help this. I heard a few men complain about this. highly recommended

Room Tip: plenty of steps so lower rooms best. ie lower numbers . we were in 712 kept us fit

Loved the hotel, the staff, the food and the rooms all wonderful. The island is so relaxing without traffic and cannot fault the cleanliness, it is spotless. We are just back from a week away, our first holiday alone for almost 15 years and we have come back really well rested. We had a garden room on the ground floor with a huge terrace and fab wicker cushioned settee. Although we didn't have the sea views it was great to site outside in private. The walks to the rooms from the hotel are not a problem at all . The al fresco restaurant has delicious food and waiter service but the jewel in crown is the al la carte Bay restaurant. The food and service are impeccable and the beef carpaccio starter is to die for. The island has stunning views and we walked most of it one day - mainly as we for lost but it was worth it to see the island. The sunsets around the harbour are beautiful and everyone vey friendly. The only down side, as mentioned previously is the sewage smell when the wind blows the wrong way but it didn't spoil our holiday and with a garden view room, never got so far as our terrace! It can be a bit overpowering in the elements bar but if you sit at far end then again you cannot smell it. We were assured that the problem is being dealt with, hopefully it's soon. A trip to Dubrovnik on the ferry is quick and easy and can be booked the day before at reception. A beautiful city and well worth the trip. Overall a fantastic holiday, loved it

Room Tip: We had 801 and loved it, if you don't mind not having a sea view.

We stayed at the resort from 22nd to 29th June as a celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary.
We had a wonderful time. The island is magical. I'd recommend taking the photographic tour as it includes an excellent island tour showing off the beauty all around (It's not only for photographers). We stayed in villa 8 with sea view and it was excellent. We tried all the dining choices and actually enjoyed the buffet the most. The white wine is very drinkable. As mentioned in many reviews the staff are excellent especially Darko & Samra. We took the local advice and caught the 6:45a.m. ferry to Dubrovnik port. From here we took a taxi to the old town (k70 £8). When we arrived at the old town it was very quiet with near empty streets. After a wander around and a few photos, we settled down for a morning coffee with the locals at a street cafe and watched the place come to life. After this we walked the walls which was great. By about 10:30 however the town was very busy.
On our last night we took the sunset catamaran trip. The final part of the tour was a stop off on Lodud. WOW, what a beautiful laid back place. The 2 or 3 restaurants lining the shore looked stunning and this must be the best place in Croatia to watch the sun go down. I have some amazing sunset photos. Please try the tour.
My wife and I used to holiday in Croatia in the mid 80's and this is our first time back since 1986. We won't leave it this long again! The reason we chose this resort is because we have holidayed at the Karisma resorts in Mexico (El Dorado Seaside Suites) which are excellent. It's good to see that the standards in Europe are equally as good.
As others have said, there is a smell from the sewage treatment works on the left of the hotel. It is unpleasant and meant that the 4 elements bar was a no go for us. I am certain that thomson / first choice will rectify this in the immediate future so don't let this put you off.

We returned from a one week stay a couple of weeks ago.

Great hotel,Great staff and a stunning views around the bay. The food choice is great and whilst the buffet can get a bit monotonous, the choice is excellent and the ability to choose Al a Carte food was an added bonus and easy to organize with a bit of pre-planning.

Only small niggles are the bars closing a touch too early and the previously mentioned "smell". Its not somewhere to go and go wild but perfect for chilling out and doing nothing . We were very lucky with excellent weather all week but I can see that if the weather was not so kind this would cause problems .

Whilst only tiny, exploring the island is great and the family run restaurant in the other "Village" was lovely with fresh cooked food including fresh fish caught that morning . Eating @ Villa Ruza is also a must whilst on the Island.

If you go to Dubrovnik, get the ferry across and book onto the hotel boat for the return journey meaning you can spend the day wandering the city and return at Midnight from Dubrovnilk.

As with most other reviews, the staff cannot be praised enough.
