“Beautiful Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Me and my girlfriend spent a lovely week on Kolacep & travelled some of the local Islands. The scenery was beautiful with lots to do including Kayaking, walking, ferries to Dubrovnic & Lopu. The hotel was quite expensive for what you get but the location is fantastic for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle. The Service of the staff was not great and we even witnessed a waiter getting angry with another guest at the hotel. But all in all a very good stay.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a sea view room with higher floor

Magnificent location with some beautiful walks all over the island. Food was buffet style and poor in quality the first week but improved during the second week- the same with the level of service. Surprised that even though we were not there at the end of the season, it appeared to be closing around us. The outside bar was only open in the evenings and the fire pit was never lit.

Some good bars across the bay where you can eat a good lunch or dinner - better than the hotel, and watch the wonderful sunsets- lets hope they survive when the hotel becomes all inclusive.

Because of the location, would have gone back to this venue, but not now if going all inclusive.

Finally - I think the British have mastered the art of saving beds around the pool, hours before they actually need them.the pool area is quite small and so there was a rush to save beds! Wish hotels would stop this.

This year I visited, with my sister, mother and father, the island of Kolocep. In villa 8 (the very top one) it was tiring to go back and forwards to and from the room to where ever, however somehow we managed. After a few days we started to get used to the heat and mosquitoes, which were a real nighmare!, but after it started to get to the end of our stay we kept on saying how much we were going to miss the place. Everyday the staff were lovely and were willing to do anything for us. I've just recently joing tripadvisor and I write the only places/attraction... that I think are the best. This is one of them! The food was good, not excellent as it was mainly the same plate every day but it was a buffet but then not average as the taste was as good as you would get at home, there was lots of activities to do eg. bike riding, canoeing, swimming, walking, language classes..., there was a small shop down by the peer which was not far to get to, the staff were excellent and the room was cleaned every day, what more could you ask for? Be careful as it is very hot! I got burnt on my shoulders very badly... however that heat will make anyone go in the sea as it is so warm also the perfect place to go snorcling! There is a bar to enjoy and plenty of resteraunts near by so if you want a change from the normal food go out! If you do stay at the hotel to eat go down early so you will get a table indoors; the wasps can be a nightmare. The ferry can take you to the different islands including Debrovnik or you could go by water taxi. Honestly this is coming from an eleven year old... GO!!! You wont regret it. Beautiful, fun, relaxing (anything you could wish for!)

Room Tip: Rooms and Villas closer to the hotel are best. Then you don't have to walk that far.

Kolocep Island is a beautiful location. Very peaceful and fantastic views everywhere you look. We were lucky with the weather - late October and still nice and warm with only one rainy day, and that cleared up half way through. However, if it had rained each day I think we may well have struggled with things to do as the hotel and island offer few facilities and even fewer this late in the season, when most other bars/restaurants on the island have shut.

As others have commented - a great location for a quiet and peaceful get away. Lots of good walks to explore around the island but much of the walking is not easy so don't try it in flip flops! Caught the ferry into Dubrovnik a few times and this is good value for money for the half hour journey. Dubrovnik is beautiful - 8pm last ferry home is a little restrictive but just means you need to be quite focused.

We were a little worried having read previous reviews about the quality of food provided by the hotel but were pleasantly surprised. It did lack variety at times - especially the desserts(!), but the buffet was fine and there was always something nice to choose from. It will have a fair way to go however if it is to be 4 star next year. Especially keen to recommend the fresh pasta which was prepared to order every evening by a wonderful young lady who also did omlettes and eggs for breakfast - highly recommended!!

The hotel was looking a little sad in places and walking into some of the accommodation blocks struck me as a little like entering student halls of residence. However, I am aware that the whole hotel was being closed within a week or so and being totally revamped ready for a re-launch as a 4 star all inclusive experience. I think that the hotel buildings and facilities have a long way to go to reach the standard they aspire to - but good luck to them and I wish them well. The staff and location are fantastic, we are keen to return again next year to see what they have done with the place!!

This is a beautiful island. If your idea of a good time is to swim in crystal clear sea, explore the shady footpaths and have a good nights sleep, this is the place for you.
The hotel is not quiet as it's website describes it the fire pit was never lit and looked like it never had been used which was a shame as it would have been nice to sit out around a fire.
The rooms are small but adequate the balconies are very small..but when the outside is so beautiful who wants to sit in their room.
Every where is kept very clean and the staff where great, very friendly and helpful.
The buffet food is acceptable and with a wide choice so could always find something nice to eat.The only thing I didn't like was they used frozen vegetables sometimes which I don't eat preferring fresh. You could use the Italian restaurant once a week but I did not enjoy the food in there at all.
We where there the last two weeks of the season and it did feel like they where winding down around us.. but after some cross words about the kayaks being removed and the state of the pool(very green) All was put right and we where given complementary drinks to make up for the problem with the pool and the kayaks where returned.
Take some insect repellent and bite cream.
Take a good first aid kit and any medicines you might want with you.
It is great to island hop using the ferries and inexpensive
There is one small shop on the island late on in the season there are no other bars /restaurants open.

Room Tip: All rooms quiet.

We've just arrived home from a fabulous holiday, just 2.5 hours flight from the UK. This hotel is set in one of the prettiest locations I have ever visited. We were blessed with seven days of warm, sunny weather and we would not hesitate to return. It was great to get away from city life and enjoy a car free environment. The food is plentiful and although not Cordon Bleu, we never went hungry. In particular the porridge at breakfast was to die for! The staff were attentive and helpful and the Thomson Rep was lovely and never appeared to be off duty. As it was the end of the season (literally, as we were the last guests to leave) the other bar and restaurant on the island were closed so we ate all our meals, including lunch which was not included in our package, at the hotel. This was tasty, not too expensive and we were pleasantly surprised by our bar/food bill at check out. There are some lovely walks and the opportunity to go on some trips, although we only left the island once to visit Dubrovnik. In summary we have travelled extensively and this location takes a lot of beating!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a sea view and you won't be disappointed. We upgraded to a suite and had...

We really loved this place. Just what we wanted, we sunbathed until mid afternoon and then spent the rest of the day walking round and exploring. Perfect if you want a relaxing holiday. We didn't leave the island so cannot comment on any trips. We did however hire a canoe and absolutely loved it, we felt very safe in the water as we kept near the edge of the island, give it a try as I feel sure whatever your ability you would really enjoy it. We went at the end of September, weather was perfect and the hotel wasn't too busy. We used the beach not the pool as there wasn't lots of space around it. The food was good and I am sure whatever your taste you would manage to find something to eat. The room was very clean and comfortable but the balcony was very small. We would definitely go again because we loved the island.
