“Beautiful Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Kolocep Island is a beautiful location. Very peaceful and fantastic views everywhere you look. We were lucky with the weather - late October and still nice and warm with only one rainy day, and that cleared up half way through. However, if it had rained each day I think we may well have struggled with things to do as the hotel and island offer few facilities and even fewer this late in the season, when most other bars/restaurants on the island have shut.

As others have commented - a great location for a quiet and peaceful get away. Lots of good walks to explore around the island but much of the walking is not easy so don't try it in flip flops! Caught the ferry into Dubrovnik a few times and this is good value for money for the half hour journey. Dubrovnik is beautiful - 8pm last ferry home is a little restrictive but just means you need to be quite focused.

We were a little worried having read previous reviews about the quality of food provided by the hotel but were pleasantly surprised. It did lack variety at times - especially the desserts(!), but the buffet was fine and there was always something nice to choose from. It will have a fair way to go however if it is to be 4 star next year. Especially keen to recommend the fresh pasta which was prepared to order every evening by a wonderful young lady who also did omlettes and eggs for breakfast - highly recommended!!

The hotel was looking a little sad in places and walking into some of the accommodation blocks struck me as a little like entering student halls of residence. However, I am aware that the whole hotel was being closed within a week or so and being totally revamped ready for a re-launch as a 4 star all inclusive experience. I think that the hotel buildings and facilities have a long way to go to reach the standard they aspire to - but good luck to them and I wish them well. The staff and location are fantastic, we are keen to return again next year to see what they have done with the place!!

This is a beautiful island. If your idea of a good time is to swim in crystal clear sea, explore the shady footpaths and have a good nights sleep, this is the place for you.
The hotel is not quiet as it's website describes it the fire pit was never lit and looked like it never had been used which was a shame as it would have been nice to sit out around a fire.
The rooms are small but adequate the balconies are very small..but when the outside is so beautiful who wants to sit in their room.
Every where is kept very clean and the staff where great, very friendly and helpful.
The buffet food is acceptable and with a wide choice so could always find something nice to eat.The only thing I didn't like was they used frozen vegetables sometimes which I don't eat preferring fresh. You could use the Italian restaurant once a week but I did not enjoy the food in there at all.
We where there the last two weeks of the season and it did feel like they where winding down around us.. but after some cross words about the kayaks being removed and the state of the pool(very green) All was put right and we where given complementary drinks to make up for the problem with the pool and the kayaks where returned.
Take some insect repellent and bite cream.
Take a good first aid kit and any medicines you might want with you.
It is great to island hop using the ferries and inexpensive
There is one small shop on the island late on in the season there are no other bars /restaurants open.

Room Tip: All rooms quiet.

We've just arrived home from a fabulous holiday, just 2.5 hours flight from the UK. This hotel is set in one of the prettiest locations I have ever visited. We were blessed with seven days of warm, sunny weather and we would not hesitate to return. It was great to get away from city life and enjoy a car free environment. The food is plentiful and although not Cordon Bleu, we never went hungry. In particular the porridge at breakfast was to die for! The staff were attentive and helpful and the Thomson Rep was lovely and never appeared to be off duty. As it was the end of the season (literally, as we were the last guests to leave) the other bar and restaurant on the island were closed so we ate all our meals, including lunch which was not included in our package, at the hotel. This was tasty, not too expensive and we were pleasantly surprised by our bar/food bill at check out. There are some lovely walks and the opportunity to go on some trips, although we only left the island once to visit Dubrovnik. In summary we have travelled extensively and this location takes a lot of beating!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a sea view and you won't be disappointed. We upgraded to a suite and had...

We really loved this place. Just what we wanted, we sunbathed until mid afternoon and then spent the rest of the day walking round and exploring. Perfect if you want a relaxing holiday. We didn't leave the island so cannot comment on any trips. We did however hire a canoe and absolutely loved it, we felt very safe in the water as we kept near the edge of the island, give it a try as I feel sure whatever your ability you would really enjoy it. We went at the end of September, weather was perfect and the hotel wasn't too busy. We used the beach not the pool as there wasn't lots of space around it. The food was good and I am sure whatever your taste you would manage to find something to eat. The room was very clean and comfortable but the balcony was very small. We would definitely go again because we loved the island.

Having booked our honeymoon here before reading the trip advisor reviews i was very worried after seeing people slating the food and the wasp invasion! My worries were unfounded.
On arrival to the island we were greated with a homemade cucumber drink, which is also served every day at breakfast, given our bags back and made our way to our room. We had booked for a sea facing junior suite which is what we got, lovely view. The room was very clean but very basic, no tea and coffee making facilities although my husband brought tea and coffee and we asked at the bar to borrow a kettle for the week and they gave us milk every day. We really enjoyed the food, i'm not sure what people were expecting to give such bad reviews. Each morning there was a wide range of hot and cold food as well as eggs/omlets made to order and each evening there was something different every night as well as a fresh pasta station which again changed its special every evening. We definately enjoyed ourselves. The only part of the meal i was let down by was the pudding, the filling tasted like it was made with shortening (a vegatable fat butter subsitute) instead of butter which i didnt like, but they put fresh fruit out so we had that instead. All the staff were fantastic, some of the ones who did not speak english as well sometimes came accoss a little abrupt, but hey, i'm in their country and they are speaking my language, this never bothered me. We never had a problem with wasps and the ones we did see were very dozy and no problem. The only downsides we encountered were: lack of entertainment, only one evening did they have any - this was in the form of a live band who were great. you have to pay for wifi - really? thats just greedy, and as it was coming to the end of the season there was no other places to eat on the island. Go if you want to spend time with your other half/family having quiet evening in and the days exploring the island maybe the odd trip off the island, don't go if this is not your thing as you will not enjoy your self and you will end up writing a harsh trip advisor review!

Room Tip: Pay for the sea view, otherwise you will be dissapointed.

The location of this hotel is out of this world. We loved the island and did not want to come home. We will certainly visit the island again. The hotel was good for the money we paid but unfortunately it will be all inclusive adults only next year and much dearer so I doubt we will be staying in it. I have seen the artists impressions of the proposed updates but I doubt it will meet the standards of a 4* plus. There is not much space to improve into. The food improved from bland on the first night to very good by the end of the week. Staff were polite and not pushy. Friendly and chatty if you engaged them and always helpful. It was obvious the hotel was winding down at the end of the season even though there were 3 weeks to go. (No doubt they were planning the refurbishment). There was no real entertainment in the evenings and no real lounges etc to sit in and most guests were in bed before 10 as this is a quiet island with no night life.
The daytime entertainment could have been good and the young lady who was in charge of the programmes was fantastic taking us on lovely guided tours of the island which were superb however these then had to be cancelled due to staff shortages when she was put onto the reception desk! We are planning to go self catering next time even thought the supermarket is a boat ride away. I hope the introduction of all inc does not spoil the natural local ambiance of this superb location.

I am a little late submitting this review, but felt that I must finally do it as we had such a good time. As it was so good I did think of not adding a review at all as the place is a little gem and we'd like to keep it a secret!!!
We were looking for a place to go to chill out and relax and that is exactly what we found and experienced. We went at the end of July and it was hot - top tip take your own parasol as it is very useful for the beaches away from the hotel.
During our week the hotel did experience some technical problems initially caused by an electricity failure to the island that caused a failure of the boiler - so no hot water for three days. However the hotel did in our opinion over compensate and it was more or less all inclusive for the second half of our stay.
I appreciate that a lot of guest have provided positive comments on the outdoor bar and Balinese bed area - I thought that it was a bit of a waste of space as we were there in peak period and there were too few sun beds and areas to lounge in the hotel. However, given that we were on a beautiful island we didn't see the point of staying in the small pool area which was busy and noisy (it was the school holidays) and we spent most of our days away from the hotel. Generally we went to what is described as a beach to the west of the hotel beyond Villa Ruza, but it is really series of sunbathing areas constructed in the rocks surrounding the bay. Given that it is the naturist area it was very quiet and on some occasions there were only 7 or 8 people in the 400m of bay. It was great for swimming but you do need to wear swimming shoes.
I did the morning walk with hotel guide which was great fun as I had a one to one trip!
We didn't move off the island for a week as we wanted a relaxing time and we felt it was too hot to be walking around Dubrovnik.
We think that the place will be much better next year when it becomes all inclusive - and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We didn't have a sea view but id didn't matter as we were there to see the island and not si...
