“A relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Kolocep is a beautiful island and a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of dubrovnik. The hotel is very basic but has a nice beach and nice views of the harbour. Food was too basic for my liking and I never really looked forward to mealtimes. We stayed here at beginning of October and the hotel was the only restaurant open on the island so things were very quiet. The staff were very good but over busy so service slipped a bit but it was all part of the desert island marooned experience. We particularly enjoyed going to Sunj beach on neighbouring island of Lopud which has an excellent bar on the beach. I would definitely go back but probably not in October. Don't forget your reading \ puzzle books.

We were recently in Croatia and noted the weather was not going to be great. We decided to take the 25 minute ferry ride to the island and stay at this hotel as it is the only one on the island. Some of the amenities that attracted us was WIFI, which was important as we needed that for work, and also in-room movies which was attractive as the forecast was RAIN.
Well they only had WIFI in the lobby and the movie feature was not working. Upon complaining to management, at first they did not act interested, but after more discussions, they agreed to give us a 10% discount on the total bill.
The rooms were clean and neat and the views were excellent. They just couldn't supply what they had promoted.

We have returned earlier this week from what can only be described as heaven, we stayed on Kolocep island which is part of the chain of islands known as The Elaphiti Islands. The island is about 25 minutes from Dubrovnik by ferry.
The hotel was very clean and the staff all friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble. good food and plenty of choices both at breakfast and dinner with an al la carte menu at lunchtime very reasonable prices.
Ferry fare to Dubrovnik very reasonable and local buses also reasonable to take you to Old Town which is well worth a visit especially walking the walls. A must is the cable car just outside The Old Town with the most stunning views over the Adriatic Coast

Room Tip: a sea view is the nicest option preferably on ground floor as the balconies tend to be a little smal...

Kolocep Island is a nice quiet place to stay. What a shame that this concrete palace has been built on such a lovely island. The architecure is totally wrong and disturbing, the hotel far too big and has the feel of being built in the years behind the Iron Curtain, which it also was. However, the rooms are nice, if you like concrete, and can accept small defects. We found the staff to be friendly, but the food was like all buffet food, quite boring. But there was a lot of food, so no one went hungry from the table. As other reviewers, we can recommend Villa Ruza as a very nice place to eat, but rather expensive compared to other Croatian restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view.

The hotel is situated on the Kolocep island, one of the Elaphiti Islands, and the
closest island to famous Dubrovnik town --- the hotel is located 5 km from the Dubrovnik harbour at Gruz. The boat comes from Dubrovnik to Kolocep 30 minuts. The hotel is only really traditional hotel on the Kolocep. It consists from “villas”, the separate three-story buildings. Besides it has a general restaurant and an office building. There are a swimming pool, garden and sports fields. Rooms have balconies, there are family rooms etc. In every room the TV combined with the computer (free internet), so if you want, and you can use their computer, not taking your notebook. The hotel is clean, the staff is helpful and kind. Breakfast is good, dinner is plentiful. Island has such especial feature that it does not have cars, very quiet, wonderful air. You can take long walks along the perimeter of the island as well as inland areas (forested).
Of the disadvantages are the following:
1) The nearest beach (sandy), right on which the hotel is located (on the bay), is in fact for children. Adult nearest beach (rocky, there are stairs to the water) is a very beautiful and clean, but a nudist. It would be not a problem if not the only staircase in the water, on which all the time there is someone naked. So up to a good place one needs to go for a swim at least half an hour.
2)The restaurant offers some fruit, but it's not that wonderful peaches and apricots, which are sold at the market in Dubrovnik. The island has a shop where you can buy food, water, icecream, melons, and tomatoes, but to buy apricots and peaches, you have to travel to Dubrovnik.
The advantage, of course, is a unique situation, peace and quiet, the proximity to Dubrovnik and the opportunity to see this amazing city, and the fact that you can go with the boat to the other Elaphiti Islands. It is a very easy and pleasant journey. We drove to Lopud.
In June, it was very warm, always sunny, the sea water was clean and warm, we did have a lot of swimming. So the experience of the place and the hotel --- the best.

Had a fantastic week staying here - we would go back tomorrow if we could.

To start with the Island and surrounding area are fantastic. Kolocep is beautiful, the beach and other swimming areas are ideal and never too busy. There are a few options for lunch or drinks and enjoyable walk to the other vilage which is worth it. We explored a lot but still kept finding exciting new places.

We also spent a day on Sipan and two on Lopud, getting the ferry was very easy even with a buggy. We especially enjoyed Lopud, the beach on the far side could not have been better and there was a great choice of places to eat and drink in the main town.

As for the hotel we couldn't fault it. We had a ground floor room witha great sea view and large terrace, blocks 6 and 8 are best and request ground floor if you want a bit more space outside. These may be reserved for those with children however. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel each day and lunch once, there was generally plenty of choice and really what you'd expect from a buffet.

Really there was no downside. Tips would be to request a sea view and ground floor room at time of booking and arrange private transfer from the airport as the speed boat made it much easier. However I wouldn't go here if travelling alone, its gets quiet very early which suits some but most people keep themselves to themselves.

Room Tip: block 6 or 8 have best views
