“Good base, Good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Much like other reviewers, we too found the Hotel clean, tidy, and well presented. The location is excellent, there are sufficient small bars and shops on the island. There is a Ferry service 4 times a day connecting the mainland and other Islands which is a great option for getting around and very reasonably priced.
Some reviews mention the noise from adjoining rooms, which is undestandable as this can be heard, also the option for a Villa with a balcony and view, we would strongly recommend you request both these things on booking as it makes a significant difference to your outlook.
The real plus was the staff who were all very friendly and helpful, particularly the two young girls who serve at breakfast and evening time, they where fantastic.
Good food and nice to have a vehicle free base.
In the end if you assess what you get here for what you pay it is very good value and on that basis a very good choice for a holiday in a beautiful country!

Room Tip: Ask for Balcony and Harbour view!!

Having read all of the (mostly good) reviews, I booked to stay at Hotel Villas Kolocep for 7 nights in late September / early October. I was attracted by a relaxing holiday on a quiet island so found the setting really idyllic. It's perfect for a chilled holiday with a couple of excursions thrown in. Other nearby islands are easy to reach and Dubrovnik (which is ace) is only a short ferry ride away.

I think I was more taken with the island itself and how lovely, quiet and relaxing it was with the hotel itself. Its location is second to none but I guess it is quite basic. The food is good but would not necessarily want to eat there every night. Thankfully Villa Ruza, a great restaurant is just up the road and is excellent for a bit of variety.

I found the service to be excellent and really liked the staff. On the last day, they let us check out late as they did not need our room which was not something that they had to do, but made our last day of holiday so much more pleasant than it could have beem.

All in all a positive experience and would definitely stay again.

We have just got back from a week at the Hotel Villas Kolocep. with our 2 daughters in their 20s.The hotel was clean and had everything we needed, rooms were well equipped and comfortable with a balcony over looking the pool and harbour. It is so peaceful and relaxing with no cars.Staff were polite and helpful. The sun was shining so we spent lots of time by the pool, walking and just chilling. Don't go looking for an action packed holiday although we found plenty to do for the week - boat trip and 3 days in Dubrovnik.

No complaints at all - just wondeer where everyone disappears to in the evening!

Just back from a 6 night break on Kolocep Island, we stayed at Villa Kolocep and had a great time, we were 'lucky' enough to request and get a sea view (perfect view in fact) which started the holiday well (wouldn't fancy a hill view). Breakfasts were very good, penty of hot food (sausage, bacon, fried eggs) and plenty of cold meats and cheeses, not Michelin star but adaquite. We ate at the hotel one night, buffet on the first and off menu the second, buffet was all right if you like quantity but was a bit let down with the quality, but then again it was a buffet, second meal was better but nothing to write home about, couple of other places to eat at on the Island but not a huge choice but we never starved. Pool was good and had plenty of beds, never failed to get two loungers by the pool. Anyone looking for a relaxing break away from noise, polution and hectic lifestyles should check this place out.

Room Tip: Get you request in for a sea view as early as possible, be first off the ferry and hot foot it round...

Good:
*The room - provided clean practical space with Internet connection, hot shower and sea view
*The location - the island is beautiful and great for long walks to find secluded coves
* staff - were reasonably helpful and no real problems encountered

Bad:
* value - we got the room for 60 pounds per night, which I consider was good value given that breakfast was included in the price. That said, I noticed the high season price was over 110 pounds per night, which I would not consider to be worth it for the standard of this hotel.

* Restaurant - it's a very basic buffet at breakfast. I did laugh when I read the hotels glowing review of its own restaurant - "Dining can be a breath-takingly beautiful experience at Hotel Villas Kolocep" - its a lacklustre experience at best, but serves purpose.

* facilities - there were more flies than people on the pool, helped I suspect in part by the sewage treatment plant about 35 metres away.

* beach - yes it's a sandy beach. But everyone in Dubrovnik knows it. Consequently, every day boat loads of tourists (and one day literally 150 school children) descend on the bay.

Overall - if you can get a room off season like we did 60 quid a night, it's worth a night just so you can hike the southern side of the island, which really is beautiful. However please don't be fooled by the more positive reviews - the hotel itself is ok for a 2 star hotel, but I suspect the good and excellent reviews above are based on relative expectations of quality.

we stayed at villas Kolocep for 5 nights toward the end of september and had a really relaxing time...a great alternative to the hectic crowds of Dubrovnik. Apartment style room was clean & we had a great view, although our double room was 2 single beds pushed together.

Varied buffet breakfast and restaurant (buffet or a la carte available) for evening meals, we found the food options agreeable being pescatarian.
Nice pool & small beach out front & 10 min walk to the small harbour to catch the frequent boats to dubrovnik (25 mins) & surrounding islands (arranged through the hotel).
Plenty of walks to choose from and canoe hire available to paddle round the island.
reception staff were friendly & attentive all in all great value.

WE stayed two nights as part of a walking holiday on the island of Kolocep. There is nothing wrong with the hotel rooms or location. Ours was at the back with a hillside view.

It has its own small pool and beds on the sandy beach in front of the hotel. Rooms are in blocks, some quite a pull upo the hill. We arrived at the port about 10 minutes walk away around the harbour and set off pulling our cases, being passed sevarl times by rude young men driving luggage buggies. We moved politely out of the way, but were never acknowledged ot thanked. Turned out they were from the hotel - they never offered to take ouit bags even though they must have guessed where we were going. We planned the return trip better, as the reception staff were very helpful, but the boys still never smiled. Smae truculance with the pool boy, for whom everything was too much trouble. A gin and tonic from the4 bar arrived late, warm, no lemon and plocked down woith iut ceremony.

WE ate in the hotel as Kolocep had closed for the season, leaving no choice in that settlement - you could walkk top ther next village. The breakfast was boring but not that unpleasant for a large buffet. Same foe the ewveing meal - but if you oredered off hte menu the food ws better - I had some great seafood and the restauant staff were helpful. IT was OK for two nights, and island has lovely walks, but I'm glad not to have had a longer time.

Room Tip: A block near the hotel and a sea view, prabably better than ours at the back. But the back has more...
