This hotel has a stunning location overlooking the best-positioned view of Dubrovnik, although I can imagine walking to the old town in the heat of summer would be a sweaty exercise.
The fit-out was modern and excellent. The elevator entrance and entrance courtyard sure adds to the "drama" of the hotel.
Food was of good quality, even though I am not the biggest fan of the local cuisine.
The rooms were excellent, although the location of the TV in our room was very questionable (fixed to a stainless steel pole anchored to the floor at the foot of the bed!?)
We visited in late October which still let us swim in the sea in front of the hotel.
Based on my experience I cannot fault.

This is no doubt a stunning property. All the rooms have spectacular views and its a great spot to explore the old town from, while keeping away from the cruise crowds. BUT this hotel is not worth the price tag, as any successful 5 star property needs seamless service. At Villa Dubrovnik the service aspect is definitely lacking.

Comparing to other similar level hotels (location, price tag, quality of property) you will be surprised that little extras are charged and quite steeply. Eg the first row of sun loungers is EUR25 per day. We were charged even as we arrived at 4pm and the only seats free were the first row and we used them for an hour.

We opted for the hotel's airport transfer (EUR35) which was great intro. The driver met us at the terminal and shared a lot of recommendations with us as first time Dubrovnik visitors. We arrived at the hotel, he called ahead and we were met by a bellboy to help with our luggage. So far wonderful, then we entered the reception area. where two people looked up, looked at us blankly and one nonchalantly said: 'can I help you?'. We are standing in a completely empty lobby, with the bellboy and driver in tow ... In that type of property given we took the hotel transfer, one expects they would greet us by name or at least more warmly. On Day 2 we decided to stay an extra night, called reception to arrange, booking dept was busy and were advised we'd receive a call back. When the call did not arrive we made two further enquiries with the front desk and each time were not able to book another night. Unsure how such a small hotel cannot have a handle of its booking system. In the end we booked the extra night online! But were asked to move rooms which added to the infuriation. There were apologies for the room move, but not for the lack of service in booking the extra night.

The transfer boat was wonderful, a lot of other reviewers noted it is not available always but we were able to use it every day of our stay. The boat captain would warn on days they suspected service may be suspended but we did not have to experience that. I used the spa once and it was fantastic. Treatments were priced high, but the quality was there.

The concierge was really helpful when it came to booking higher end restaurants, but were not good with simple things like ferry schedules. We ended up taking the bus/ferry transfer to Korcula, with concierge confirming the schedules and assuring tickets could not be booked ahead of time. You can imagine surprise when we arrived to find out the time we wanted to leave was booked, you can reserve 7 days in advance! ended up waiting at the bus station for 2 hours, not ideal!

We only ate at the hotel twice. Lunch on the terrace which was good, although waiters are a little pushy in terms of ordering extras. The coffee was excellent. We had drinks/nibbles at the rooftop bar, which was understaffed. More disappointingly it is a wine bar with an extensive list, but the waitress when asked for her recommendation pointed out a very expensive local bottle with 'lots of people order this one'. Ummm when paying upwards of $100 per bottle you would expect a little more knowledge from the servers. We ordered the local Istrian ham and parma, both very good.

On the last day at check out by chance we met the guest relations manager, who was wonderful and took my written comments immediately. She followed up and offered coffee/dessert on the house as we were preparing to leave. It was a nice touch, but we wish we had met her earlier or that her colleagues had the same views on how guests should be treated.

This is a SLH and a Mr & Mrs Smith recommended property. The service level needs to step up. Needs to be effortless.

Dear RalitzaF,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your recent stay at Villa Dubrovnik. I was however disappointed to read that your recent stay at Villa did not meet expectations.
This is really not our type of service standard and I am really sorry that you didn’t experience it at the best. .

Firstly I was concerned to read about your arrival experience. This should of course have made you feel truly special and as though you were ‘home from home’. The fact that you felt ignored has been directly addressed to ensure the welcome and recognition of our guests is absolutely consistent and certain people already faced consequences.

I am sure that next time you will enjoy our standard of service which our guests appreciate and recognize each time while they are with us. I believe you will give us one more chance, because this unfortunately is not what we aim to provide.

One more time please accept my deepest apology and looking forward welcoming you again.

Villa Dubrovnik has put all other hotels we've stayed in to shame. We were greeted at the dramatic cliff-side elevator by a helpful doorman and led through a sleek, modern entrance to a reception desk with an unencumbered view of the Adriatic. The service was impeccable during our stay, every employee we encountered was helpful, friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. We stayed in a Superior Room with a beautiful view of the Adriatic and the Island of Lokrum. The elegant design let us view the sea from our shower every morning, and the Bvalgari toiletries were an amazing touch. The meals provided at the restaurant and in-room were amazing and choices plentiful. The spa practitioners were professional and the relaxing spa offered a wide range of treatments. The pool was beautiful with a lovely view of the sea. The beach was on a cozy rock outcropping with a stunning view I will never forget. On top of it all, chocolates were delivered to the room nightly. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to return. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the city, but with hourly transportation to and from the hotel by boat or car, who would mind the ride or the beautiful walk? Many thanks to the staff at Villa Dubrovnik for their wonderful treatment to their guests.

Room Tip: Any room will provide a spectacular view

We booked Romace forever three nights package, really great value for money. Hotel is just great, almost perfect, romantic and serene. Staff is polite, efficient, warm, really doing their best. Great spa, masseuses are really unique (Stela and Alma). Indoor pool - water temperature was unpleasantly cold. Dinner at Pjerino restaurant was excellent.

Room Tip: 216 - huge terrace with hot tub, overlooking sea with direct view to old town - sensational

This is a beautiful hotel, located immediately overlooking the ocean and the old town. The staff were excellent and the rooms first class. Weather permitting, there is a very nice oceanfront lounging and swimming area, including a roped off swimming area right on the ocean. The hotel has one drawback. It is far from the old town, where everything you want to see is located. It's a 17 minute walk down and a 20 minute walk back up. The boat shuttle is nice, but not very reliable depending upon the weather and ocean condtions. If you want to be right near the old town, this is the wrong hotel (try the Hilton). However, if you are ok with walking or shuttling to town, the oceanside location and amenties are very appealing. Sitting on your balcony overlooking the ocean is almost worth the price alone. The restaurants are quite nice, but overly expensive. There are many more appealling restaurants for less money in th old town.

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to have the same beautiful ocean view. Higher rooms (there are only 4 floors...

Dear prose1,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts following your recent stay at Villa Dubrovnik. I was most pleased to read that you chose our hotel for your vacation and that you enjoyed its facilities and service.
Our prime location in front of the Old city and on the seaside gives each guest advantage to enjoy at the same time the privacy and exclusivity. As you already mentioned, we provide an exclusive Venetian vaporetto boat transfer to the City and back on a daily base. It is short but a special ride. Some people prefer to walk down the coast and enjoy the atmosphere of it. Unfortunately due to the rainy and windy weather during your stay you didn’t enjoy it as much as possible. The boat transfer was replaced with the Mercedes shuttle.

For your next visit I believe you will enjoy it and my team and I are looking forward to provide you again with a memorable experience.

The entrance of this hotel is quite dramatic -- going down an elevator to reach the lobby, where the hotel overlooks the ocean. We got in right at sunset, and were able to enjoy some cocktails at the rooftop bar before heading to the room to unpack. We had an Executive Room, which had the private jacuzzi, which was very nice! The view from the balcony was breathtaking, and we kept the door open some nights just to get the sound of the waves while we slept. Dining at Villa Dubrovnik was excellent -- we had dinner on our last night at their restaurant Pjerin and had a great tasting menu paired with some excellent Croatian wines. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and visiting Dubrovnik. We don't often revisit a destination, and we are already looking into returning next year!
