We spent a week at the kompas Hotel in Lapad, it is set over nine floors. We had a standard room as we were to stingy to pay the extra 20 euros per night for a sea view room. the hotel is clean and tidy and your room is cleaned each day and bed sheets chnaged etc. Breakfast is a continental style and is served between 6.30-9.30am. The hotel overlooks the sea and is beautiful in terms of locality. the rooms are clean and tidy but nothing special, but if your really looking for somewhere to sleep then its perfect. There is an inside and outside pool and use of a gym. You need to book time in the sauna and Jaccuzzzi the day ebfore you intned on going.
The hotel itslef is on teh main strip but very quiet, i would recommend the Paladium resturant for food, its really nice food and really well priced. Around £30 for two of us with wine. There are all sorts of places to eat but some are really expensive so we found the cheaper ones and stuck to them. The Bella Donna also i would reocmmend for a good Pizza.
There is a really nice walk to the right of the hotel, which leads to the cabanna beach and is around a 2 mile coastal walk. We really enjoyed it as we ended up at the old Harbour where we stopped for lunch.
The hotel is a short bus journey to the Old twon which is a must see, you get a number 6 bus from the top of the strip and you can get your tickets at the hotel reception. the bus journey is aorund 15 minutes.
The Old town is beautiful and costs around £10 to go into teh city walkks, but is a must, its steep and their are lots (i mean lots) of steep steps, but well worth the climb.
At the old twon there is also a boat that goes over to the Island of Lockrum, my favourite Island, its got wild turtles and peacoks, and a lovely resturant in the centre for a light lunch. its cheap as well to go over on the bot and its a really good walk around there.
You can also catch a boat over to cavta which is lovely as well. Its a bit more expensive to get the boat and you can get a number 10 bus from the bus station which is a cheaper option. cavtat is lovely as well and although it doesnt take long to walk around its well worth a visit.
We also did the three isalnd tour, there is not much to do on the first two islands, but the third island of lopod has a steep long walk to sunnyj beach which is beautiful for views and the houses on the walk are gorgeous. i would recommend going on one of the bigger boats as the smaller ones are cramped and uncomfortable and you have to sit at tables all day.
The old town is beautiful and we even went to see the Aquarium whilst we were there. A week is enough to see and do the surrounding areas, and if planning to go for longer it may be worth going to stay in Split as well.
The land is still unspoilt and not touristy and has an innocence about it that was loveley. The croation people are genuinely proud of their country and there is no litter anywhere. I felt genuinely safe whilst i was there and its friendly, laid back and hospitable.
