“Beautiful ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

I stayed in this hotel last August. It was in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly and polite. The breakfast was OK. It filled me up until lunch and frankly thats all ya need : ) The room we had was indeed small but very rarely there except to sleep so what harm? At the pool everyday. The lady who works at the pool was the loveliest person I met in Dubrovnik. I loved this hotel so much that my partner and I will be returning again this August. One quibbe is that the bathroom was very small. Look forward to seeing the staff in Kompas again this Summer.

we had a half board holiday here booked through Jet 2 holidays, I had booked a standard room which meant we didn't have a balcony, a mistake I made when booking, we asked when we arrived but the hotel was fully booked. I thought it was going to spoil the holiday but it didn't at all we were in a very quiet part of the hotel room 317, it was a well lit family room with good air con and really comfortable, the food on a evening was really Delicious and the meat dishes just melted in your mouth. the cleaner came into the room every day and even when we had a sleep in, she still came later to do, the restaurant staff were really good, almost knew what we were going to choose next from the fab buffet.attentive but not in your face, all staff were smartly dressed this hotel was right on the front, I noticed that a lot of holday makers used the restaurant downstairs, lunch time and eve, were not really breakfast people so can't really comment on this, Dubrovnik old town is a 10 min bus ride away .you can buy the tickets in the hotel. we absolutely loved everything about the place, nice walks around the coastline, instead of paying for a 3 island boat trip which was about £22 to £25 each . ask the hotel how to get the ferry to one of the islands, we went to the middle one return for 2 was about £9.50 good tip we got from regular visitors, drinking prices on a par with England, I Don't really want to share this place with you as want to keep it as my secret but that's not fare, others should enjoy

I really enjoyed the stay however the rooms are basic and the breakfast left a lot to be desired.Having said that the staff were really nice especially in the terrace restuarant where the food was excellent. The location is good and you can walk to the old city although its a long walk and all uphill. The 3 island boat trip was excellent even though it rained all morning and the food on the trip was really nice and fresh.
The entertainment at night was ok but the noise from the beach bar across the road went on til 2am so if you want a quiet holiday you will be disapointed.

I would definitely recommend Hotel Kompas. Its very nice and clean place to stay, food was good, couldn't complain about it at all. We stayed HB and dinners were lovely, every night something different. Breakfast was plentiful, do not listen the other comments unless you are very picky. The food in downstairs hotel restaurant was overpriced so we were having lunches outside. 5 min walk from the hotel, there is local supermarket Tommy open 7am-11pm with very cheap beer, water and other groceries.
Hotel pool was a bit disappointment as water was too warm and it was very crowded, no free sunchairs as people went out in the early morning to reserve their spaces by putting beach towels over the deckchairs!!

I would recommend a trip to nearby villages Kupari, Srebreno. You can take bus no 10 from the Harbour, ask reception for more details. Village of Kupari is nothing but all destroyed during the war with the lovely beach, you really have to see that!!

Room Tip: Sea view balcony recomended

I was going to give the hotel 3 stars but then decided that, in fact it deserved more than 'average' as I enjoyed my stay here overall. I had a single room which was adequate, basically clean enough but some fixtures and fittings were in need of replacement. Just new lampshades would have made a difference. There was only a shower, no bath and no special view but the hillside vegetation was not unappealing.
The good points were the staff - the gentlemen on reception were very attentive and efficient and all staff were friendly, the hotel also has a great location on the bay and pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. It was easy to get into the old town by bus and then escape back from the crowds later on. The food was alright. If you choose half board you may wish to eat out for a change rather than rush back every day.

We were very lucky that the weather was exceptionaly hot while we were here and we spent our time hopping in and out of the water. The area surrounding the Hotel is excellent for sunbathing or swimming, eating, browsing the many stalls or just people watching.
The room we were given reflected the price we paid. It overlooked the back of the hotel and did not have a balcony, which was a bit of a let down. However we were only 2 nights there and as I said, we were out all day so it didn't bother us much. The bathroom was small, shower only, and lacked any places for cosmetics etc, they all had to go outside or on the floor. Beds were comfortable and clean, staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful, no problems there at all. The big dissapointment was the breakfast, sparse and uninviting, Very little choice for such a big hotel and the presentation was boring within a very small selection area. We had our 2 evening meals in the terrace restaurant and lunch one day, all excellent and good value there, try the meat platter for 2!

I got a great deal from Gala Hotels and overall I was happy with what I got for the money Don't worry if you do not get immediate confirmation as they leave it untill the last 3 days before your stay. If staying any longer than 3nts I would probably not go for the cheapest option as you do not get the good rooms.

Hotel was far better than it's 3 star rating suggests. I went as part of a group and shared a room at the side of the hotel. Unfortunately our view was of the side of a hill close up and so the room was dark but it was clean and comfy and there was a bath. There are various leisure facilities: sauna, jacuzzi, fitness room, indoor pool (open winter only), outdoor pool (open summer only) which I didn't manage to try as our stay was only 3 nights. Area is quiet at night.

The beach although pebbly was very close. If you plan to swim a lot it would be worth getting a pair of those special sea shoes to protect your feet - readily available from the shops lining the route to the bus stop. Attractive balcony terrace overlooking stunning view of bay - buffet breakfast was served here. Ground floor outside terrace below used for snacks, drinks, cake, and ice cream during the day. In the evening used for nightly live entertainment - 4 piece combo playing golden oldies type of stuff but very entertaining.

Bus stop was 5 minutes walk away via quiet pedestrian route lined with souvenir shops and restaurants. There is a shopping centre just along from bus stop - including Benetton, clothes and souvenir boutiques, a supermarket, plus some local shops. Also a money exchange but go in the bank next door for a slightly better rate.

Bus to old town takes 15 minutes - tip - if you get a 24hr ticket you can use it as many times as you like during the 24hrs. Cost is the price of a return ticket. NB you can only get 24hr tickets from a booth during the day. Ordinary tickets are available on the bus or it seems from the hotel reception.

I went as part of a private group and I think the organiser got a good group deal by booking ahead. It was the best place we stayed in (all of which were supposedly 3 star) and I would definately go again. NB not good for people with mobility problems as hotel is on 9 floors. There are lifts but there are stairs to the terrace balcony/dining room.

Room Tip: Our non balcony room really had no view and was dark as a result - up to you if you want to go cheap...
