“dubrovnik B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

We stayed here in May and as everyone says - location ideal, just across the road from Old Town, beach, supermarket & other conveniences. Host very knowledgeable and helpful, arranged our tours and taxis and even paid for our taxi from the airport. Room was spotless, large and very well air conditioned and double glazed to keep out the road noise. Lots of steps, but hey, that's Dubrovnik, but what a wonderful place!

We stayed here for four nights. The location is excellent, right outside the old city walls, but it's a bit of a misnomer as there is no breakfast included and the restaurant recommended by the host was awful - my omelette was burnt and tasted fishy and my husband's croissant was obviously yesterday's heated up. A better option was to buy a croissant from the bakery across the road and have a coffee in the bar below our room. The location is also noisy due not only to the bar below but also to the taxi rank outside, which appears to be very busy around 4 a.m. when the night clubs close. There is a tiny balcony between the rooms with barely enough room to seat two people, which is a shame as the view over the old town and bay is amazing - also it is the only space in which to hang wet swimsuits and towels etc. but for half the time this was taken up with the host's own laundry. All in all a slight disappointment, especially in comparison to our accommodation in Split. Having said that, the host was very helpful with information and tips on restaurants and booking a taxi to the airport.

All of our guests know in advance that breakfast is available across the street. So did Mr. R.C.

It is funny how some people do not say 1 word about what is bothering them. We talked to Mr. R.C. everyday, as we do with all of our guests. He never mentioned they had burnt omelette and bad croissant for 1 breakfast. They would, for sure, have free breakfast for the remaining 3 days. We did dress down the cook when we saw this review, but it is too late for them now.
That aside, thing that is bothering us the most is only 3 points for "Cleanliness". We take great pride in being spotlessly clean. That 3 points must have been "burnt omelette talking".

I am glad Srdjan "was very helpful with information and tips on restaurants and booking a taxi to the airport" and if we ever meet again, breakfast is on us.

Kind regards,

Dragan Gizdic

It's all about the location with this place. It couldn't be any better. Seriously. The hosts are wonderful and a wealth of knowledge and personality. The rooms are spartan, but clean and comfortable with sound proof windows and AC. Ideally I'd have liked someplace a little "nicer" but for what we could afford, this was a great option and we hardly spend any time in the room so it really didn't matter. If location tops your list of amenities, this is your best option!

Dear Dragan

Home after a truly splendid short break. The accommodation was ideally situated and, apart from steps (an absolutely fundamental feature of any visit to Dubrovnik) just what we were hoping for. Your friendly welcome and advice was very much appreciated making our two days very full without being exhausting. When we look back, we are amazed at how many of our planned activities – the walls, the
ski-lift to the mountain top, a sea trip round the islands, not to mention the music ( a symphony concert) and the food. I know you were not directly responsible for the perfect weather but It put the cream on the cake. We shall certainly recommend you to our friends etc.

Again many thanks

Gordon and Ann Parsons

I recently spent parts of four days in Dubrovnik as part of a scouting trip for our company -- and was totally satisfied with my stay at Dubrovnik B&B. The city is the highest-priced location in Croatia by everyone's admission, so read reviews with that in mind -- and then look at this place's amazingly close location to the old city's Ploce Gate, wonderful hospitality and very helpful suggestions from owner Srdjan (pronounced Sir John), ultra-clean and pretty spacious rooms and proximity to two ATMs, restaurant, coffee bar, bakery, the local palmed swimming beach, laundry, taxi stand, cable-car, tour boats, main-square market, etc. to really appreciate it. Srdjan arranged a car for pick-up from the airport (nice for even road-warriors like myself to have a local with a name sign waiting in arrivals), took the time to recommend good places to eat, 'must-see' and 'don't bother' locations to visit, opening and closing times for attractions, offer to book a day trip to Montenegro, arranged a return car to the airport and many other tips/suggestions ... so top marks there. The location is on the BEST end of Old Town, opposite from the gate where tour boat buses/tourists swarm and thus ultra close to one of only two entrances to walk the city walls (see separate review on this must-see attraction), a short walk to the cable car to the mountain overlooking the city (spectacular views/photo ops, especially at sunset) and way close to tour boats to Locrum and other islands. I chose it for this reason alone, so the rest added to the experience. Rooms are up a fairly long stair case (pack lightly anyway, right?), but are spacious, very clean and mine overlooked the Adriatic and Ploce Gate! Close the shutters and the windows for a cozy night's sleep. The bathroom was very representative of European ones, spotless and with loads of hot water. Security is not an issue (two locked doors between the street and rooms). Know ahead of time there is no breakfast, but the wee coffee bar downstairs, the grand Adriatic-view restaurant or the bakery across the street allow grand choices. As with all trips abroad, do your homework ahead of time, know what you are doing with local assistance and go at things with yours eyes open ... and you'll totally enjoy this location!

Room Tip: They have four double rooms (ask for one of two front facing rooms) or the top-floor suite.

The position was first class. The room was basic ( bed, shower, toilet) it did have air cond. And wifi.It is called bed and breakfast but no breakfast is offered (it is easily accessed over theroad or down the street. The host was helpful. There was a steep flight of stairs to access the room.It was very noisy from the bar below and traffic. It appeared a bit tired and in need of a refurb.the bath towels were the smallest i have ever encountered.Other than the position i can,t find anything else positive to say.

I am very sorry Mr. Brian P. had bad time with us. They had some problems in arriving by bus from Split and they come to stay with us (for a few days) in a bad mood. Again, when leaving for the airport there was again problems with transportation. They arranged a taxi for themselves and asked Srdjan to do the same. Then 2 cars arrived. Reading Mr. P's review I am sorry for only 2 points score, because all that I find wrong with us, were too small towels Mr P. had.
Good location, friendly host, Wi-Fi,... all good, but towels were trigger for this bad review. Breakfast is available across the street and all our guests now that in advance.

Every morning Srdjan asked is there something they need (as he does with all of our guests) and they never asked for a bigger towels.

When something is bothering You that can be easily fixed, people usually ask.

In conclusion, I hope this "poor" experience Mr. P. had with us will not reflect on a entire city and that they will return to Dubrovnik.

Dragan Gizdic.

The location of this B and B sells itself (especially for the price) - and the wonderful hospitality is an added bonus! After a day of walking - it is nice to be just a few steps from the City Walls of Old Town. Listen to Srdjan - he will not steer you wrong. We only had 2 days in Dubrovnik and he helped us navigate the best of the city in those two days! Can't wait to return!
