This property is so gorgeous. They are just finishing a total reconstruction. Everything about this hotel is first class. It's just a short walk (downhill) to Old Town in Dubrovnik. The staff were helpful, although falling over one another behind the desk at check-in. We ate lunch on the deck and the waitstaff were well trained and cordial. The Ceasar Salads were excellent. The Health Spa is beyond description. Beautiful, ethereal , stunning-one problem though, it was not open yet.!!! We will go back ASAP.

Rated a five-star, the Excelsior is really a little below that.
Negatives:
Only 2 small bath towels
No turndown service
Elevators that are confusing, often needing 2 to change floors
Elevators are shared with the staff
Noise from construction
Safe in room didn't work.
Dinner in hotel just OK and really expensive.
Cheesy fixtures
Positives:
Good location - short walk to Old Town.
Right on the ocean.
Very friendly staff and very helpful.
Quiet room and good bed

“Newly Renovated but Not Quite Ready for Prime Time”

Just reopened after a major renovation, this hotel wasn't quite ready for prime time when we stayed there June 14, 2008. The drain in our shower didn't work (bad design--water all over the floor), lights in the room went on and off for no apparent reason, the sushi restaurant hadn't opened yet. But, the hotel is beautiful. The location is great--spectacular views of the water and the old city--easy walking distance to old city. Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful. It's pricey, but when they get the bugs out, it will be a great place for a splurge.

fantastic!!!
everything was just fantastic , location to dubrovnik, seafront location, hotel inside and outside!
