“4 star room, 5 star service, 5+ star location and view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely had a great stay at excelsior. We paid a premium for the room as it was the beginning of peak season. Howevere the room felt like we were given a 4 star room - at a 5 star cost. We explained that it was our honeymoon, and we were expecting a bit more for the price paid. Ivana & Ana were extremely courteous and were able to put us in a room that we liked better. The service and people working were xtremely kind and helpful. Mario, his staff at the restuarant, and Petar the exec chef were all very hospitable. But the room view and location were absolutely the finest I have seen anywhere, and really highlight the beauty of Dobrovnik.

Stayed there recently and its mainly location location location. Window to the sea and a fresh breeze coming through an average size room. Close to all major attractions. Private beach front a plus. Breakfast is fantastic.

We stayed as 3 couples in February 2013 and found the Excelsior to be excellent in every way, and for us a more rewarding experience than the standardised fare of, say the Hilton.

From a location point of view, it is just a 5 minute, gently sloping walk from the old town, situated right on the seafront and with great views of the old town and Lokrum. The restaurant has a terrace overlooking the sea so breakfast is a meal to be savoured.

The rooms are of high quality - ours were not the largest in the hotel but well equipped and with terraces overlooking the sea. Room service was very good and overall, the staff were extremely helpful, particularly the front desk. Surprisingly, the exchange rate offered was better than we could get from any UK institution before travelling - not the usual rip-off.

The lower floor has a fully-equipped pool, gym, sauna etc and again, the staff and service were what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. We found the restaurant service to be good although with over 300 restaurants in the old town, didn't eat more than once in the hotel.

If you want a great experience in a fabulous location, then this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea are clearly superior.

I spent 4 nights there for a congress (the organizer booked the room for me so I am not sure what category it was). It is a large hotel very convenient for the old town. My room had a sea view, good bathroom, nice amenities...but also a pillar in the middle - a bit strange!
Service was overall good, a bit of a mixed experience as some members of the staff were really pleasant and some a bit less.
The room was reasonably clean. Breakfast was ok, nothing special.
I am not sure about the Croatian hotel standards so it is difficult to comment, but I did not find it very special, just a large hotel.
keep in mind the "beach" is a concrete area on the sea and the swimming pool is indoor.

Writing the review while we are still here basking in the sunshine. The Hotel is defiantly 5 star, our room is a Deluxe with Balcony and the room itself is excellent, very clean and great amenities, even a reasonably priced mini bar which is a bonus as usually other hotels charge the earth. And the view from the balcony is to die for, straight across to the island along to the old town it is a stunning location and worth every penny. The sun beds and loungers are plentiful and the staff very friendly and helpful the Adriatic is a bit chilly but you will need a cooling dip. The indoor SPA is first class a great pool and plenty of treatments for those who want to be pampered. The food is also first class a great breakfast and fast and efficient friendly service. We are only 2 days into a 5 day break but are already looking to come back to this Hotel, hopefully we can persuade them to give us the same room as well although all the balcony rooms look great.
The location is ideal a short stroll into the Old Town with plenty of shops restaurants and bars it really is an fantastic night out and plenty of people about to give it a great
All in all a first class stay at a wonderful hotel we will defiantly be back and staying here, only a 2 1/2 hour flight from the UK so an ideal mini break with great weather and great location.

Room Tip: Deluxe with Balcony is a fantastic room with a stunning view go on treat yourselves.

Very disappointed with the service in this hotel. We arrived early and had been preassigned a room and we had to wait in the lobby for over 4 hours for our room while watching guests who arrived after us check in continually! I would not recommend this hotel.

The hotel is located on a marvellous spot on a little hill, it has a great view, facing the sea. At walking distance from the walled city. The room was clean and comfortable, nice bar and restaurants and terraces, all facing the Adriatic. Service was also very nice. All in all, I enjoyed my stay very much.

Room Tip: ask for rooms with a view to the sea!
