“Paradise on earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

My boyfriend and I went on holiday in Dubrovnik and chose the Importanne Resort (Hotel Ariston). As we had chosen the Romantic formula (with champaign and chocolate in the room and a SPA Voucher), we were allocated to Royal Princess.

As I entered the room, I was really amazed by the wonderful panoramic view over the sea, the beauty of the room and its size (2 bathrooms, 1 big bedroom with king size bed, 1 big balcony, 1 bar and a big living room). Everything was as in a dream.

The staff were doing their best to satisfy us and, though we could feel that they still had to better understand how to organize such a luxury hotel, we felt really warmly welcomed. I will never forget the wonderful stay I had at the Royal Princess.

Have stayed at the Ariston complex 10 times now I think. We usually stayed in the Importanne Suites which have been renamed and the Royal Princess is a new-build. The rooms look right over the ocean as does the whole complex. Plenty of wardrobe space so even us men don't have to keep our clothes in a suitcase on the balcony. 2 bathrooms. Living room. Massive bed (had to search for the wife in it during the night but she assures me she was there. And I truly believe her). I have serious back issues and normally all beds in all hotels kill me but these were just right.

There's a new gym and spa with pool downstairs to go with the existing ones in the Ariston and you can use either if you're staying in the Princess. We had a few deep massages and they were great. They've 3 types of saunas too! The inversion tables in the gym were great post-workout.

Everything has evolved so much since we first stayed here and its a credit to the owners that they continue to invest to make guests feel special. The GM, Kreso Tomic, and his staff are always professional and friendly (you'll get the odd grumpy waitress in the morning as you do in life) . Yes, the food isn't to everyone's taste at breakfast but that's because there are people from different continents who are being catered for. For example, my wife loves boiled carrots, broccolli and the small salami style sausages in the morning whereas I'm more fruit, eggs, meats. I think the food is great and varied. As someone said the hotel is a bit out from the Old Town and that's part of why it's so great. It's only 20 minutes in a bus yet you feel as if you are miles from anywhere it's so relaxing. You can also walk to the Lapad area via the coast walk. So relaxing. Mmmm.

There's nothing like having a cool beer at the "beach" bar overlooking the ocean with a warm breeze and the sun setting on the horizon. You really have to stop reading these reviews and just book the Royal Princess. 11th booking for us will be coming soon!

My husband and I stayed in the Royal Princess, Dubrovik (part of the Importanne Resort) at the end of May/beginning of June.
We weren't really sure what to expect but were very pleasantly surprised at the spacious accommodation - kitchen, living room, large bedroom, ensuite bathroom and separate shower room with toilet facilities. The views from the balcony over the Adriatic were spectacular.
The staff all had excellent English and couldn't be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. As it is part of a Resort group of hotels guests had full use of facilities in the other hotels. Ours had an indoor freshwater pool with fully equipped spa, but there were sea water outdoor pools at the other hotels.
Two slight downsides were the fact that although we had a kitchen with a fridge, a hob and a microwave there was no crockery, cutlery, glasses or pots and pans to make use of any of that.
Secondly as the restaurant in our hotel was only operational in the evening (and the food was good, although the choice of menu slightly restricted) breakfast was taken in the Meditarraneo restaurant - a self serve buffet. It got very crowded on some morning as it served the guests of 4 hotels but the choice on offer was good and the food excellent. On one morning though we had booked a very early trip to Montenegro (well worth doing BTW) and we ordered room service. This was not a success as it had to come from this buffet restaurant and as a result was cold when it got to us. Our complaint regarding same was swiftly dealt with by the Manager to a most satisfactory outcome.
I truly cannot fault this hotel. We had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: We had a top floor sea view suite - absolutely stunning!

We stayed in this hotel at the end of May. We were booked in to the Neptune and stayed there for 3 nights. The weather had been terrible before arriving meaning 2 of the 4 pools were out of use for a few days. With a four year old daughter we had booked this hotel for the pools. The operations manager was very sympathetic so upgraded us to the Royal Princess which was great.

The Royal Princess was beautiful. Only a couple of years old, it was immaculate. The rooms were spacious and very tastefully decorated. The double bed was huge. We had a suite with a double bedroom and living room with a sofa bed and small kitchen off. The balcony was really special. Go for a top floor if you can. The balcony had a glass wall so your view of the sea is completely uninterrupted.

My husband regularly used the gym which he said was good. The outdoor pools (shared with the Neptune) are pretty cold so we often used the indoor pool with our daughter. Having an indoor pool was a real bonus.

The staff in the restaurants and bar were really warm and friendly. In fact, all the Croatians we met on holiday seemed to be really friendly.

The hotel shares facilities with the Neptune as part of the Importanne resort. The breakfast was very good, as was the buffet evening meal. The outside snack bar also served good food.

When we arrived at this hotel and the outdoor pools were damaged I originally thought I had made a bad choice - the hotel and resort is on the Babin Kuk peninsula so it is very exposed. However, I later realised it had been a good choice as it is so beautiful. The sea and scenery on the peninsula are breathtaking. Once the pool was fixed, walking round this small 'resort' with our daughters in the evening was lovely. It was great watching the big cruise liners sail past from Gruz harbour on the other side of the peninsula especially when they are all lit up at night.

Also worth noting if you have small children, you can walk along a lovely coastal path from the hotel/resort (about 15 mins) to Lapad Bay where there is a really good children's playground. Our daughter made plenty friends there. There is also a little beach here and on the other side of the peninsula too.

All in all, this was a beautiful hotel in a lovely area of Dubrovnik with great facilities and staff. We hope to be back soon.

Room Tip: Top floors if possible to get great sea view.

We had just spent a week on the island of Korcula at the Marko Polo Hotel and relocated as planned to Dubrovnik and the Neptune Hotel.
When we arrived at the Reception desk (which is shared by the Neptune, Ariston, Royal Palm and Royal Princess Hotels) we were informed that we had been upgraded to a Suite of rooms in the Royal Princess !.....I am always a little cautious when hotels bump you from the planned schedule, but in this case I need not have worried. We were transported the 100yards up the road in a stretch golf buggy to the Royal Princess which even on first viewing looked lovely.
Our Suite was on the second floor , with a small kitchen area, large lounge and bedroom and 2 shower/bathrooms. The balcony had a wonderful view of the rocky coast line and the small islands just off the coast. We had a huge 50inch screen TV in the lounge and another in the bedroom.
We used the"Wellness" centre many times, as the heated indoor pool was wonderful, as were the Sauna and steam rooms, the outdoor sea water pool was very cold, but it was early in the season, so it came as no surprise.
I don't think that I have ever stayed in a better hotel or experienced more helpful and pleasant staff.
One tip for future travellers, is to buy your bus tickets from the Hotel Reception for 12 kuna ......
as on the bus they are 15 kuna. The Number 6 bus terminates just across the road from the hotel and terminates again at Dubrovnik Old Town, so you can't go wrong and you will always get a seat on what is sometimes a very crowded bus!
We loved Dubrovnik and the Royal Princess Hotel !.......................we do not usually return to places, no matter how good they have been, but we will definitely return to this hotel and Dubrovnik.

How did I fail to review the Royal Princess on TA? Surely not out of spite, the superb suite to which we were upgraded (for free!) on arrival with its captivating, unobscured 180-degree panoramic view over the Adriatic was without question the high point of 3 weeks of travel in the region. After looking over a few recent posts, I see the main points have already been well-covered: the view, the view and the view. There are two types of accommodation in this building: those that face the sea and those that do not. Never permit yourself the false economy of booking the latter. Whatever they charge for those sea view units is worth every single penny.

Our suite was a spacious one-bedroom affair, with two full baths. The "main" bathroom adjacent to the bedroom was so implausibly lavish that I swear it was larger and better appointed than our entire hotel room in Venice. The unit was outfitted with a small but useful kitchen, very handy although rendered a bit less functional because not a single utensil or vessel of any kind was provided. That said, all one had to do was raise one's eyes to the fabulous "Dr No" type view out the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall window to forgo any urge to quibble.

Service, anyway as much as we needed, was always impeccable, helpful, polite and dignified. Several young women of cosmopolitan background and a high degree of personal charm spend what seems like 24/7 just waiting to assist you with any little whim like making a reservation somewhere or helping you find something.

The freebie breakfast has been pejoratively described in a recent review. I thought it was fine for what it was with the single exception of the undrinkable coffee furnished by robot barista machines. But what is to quibble about when this collation is offered to you in a vast dining room overlooking that same exquisite sea-view?

So do not hesitate, book a sea front suite only, do not pay for meals in advance (if you must have meals, they';ll sell them to you at the same price anyway) and prepare for a really spectacular oceanfront resort accommodation.

Room Tip: Only ocean front rooms need apply. If you rent the other, you'll hate yourself forever.

We had booked the Hotel Neptune and paid a small amount to upgrade to a Royal Princess Suite. It was beautiful and was really a five star room and living room. The view is spectacular and this morning I had a beautiful swim in the sea. The sunbathing spots are gorgeous and we enjoyed a drink last night at the bar with a 180 degree view. We didn't have time to try the restaurants as we took a taxi for 10 euro to the old town to explore that area. We could have taken the bus for a tenth of that but we ran out of time. I had to cut our trip short due to a family emergency and funeral and the staff could not have been more accommodating and kind. They are fabulous staff and I look forward to going back there again.
