My partner and I stayed here in August 2012 (been meaning to write this review ever since) and it was all good. The apartment is exactly as described/photographed; tastefully furnished and well maintained, clean and peacefully away from the hubbub of the promenade and thriving beach area. The neighbourhood is quiet day & night – we slept well every night – and the terrace receives the sun all day long. It (the terrace) is not overlooked and lounging around in the sun, on the days we chose to, was most pleasant.
Walking, the promenade is approx 10 mins from the apartment. This is strolling pace and is downhill via stepped-walkways (photo). Coming back up, however, is more of a chore and, although not major, is a bit of a pain at the end of a long day. There is a bus service that stops around the corner from the apartment, however, so the steps aren’t the only option to get from A to B and back again.
The owner, Marija, is extremely welcoming and friendly –a bottle of wine and biscuit snacks were waiting for us upon arrival and during the week she baked and gave us a VERY GOOD apple pie. Don’t know if it’s standard practice but we were picked up from and taken back to the airport as part of the ‘package’ (Marija had broken her ankle so was unable to taxi us herself but had arranged for her neighbour to pick up & drop us off. These, too, were very friendly people, taking us to a supermarket, after picking us up from the airport, to buy provisions.)
All in all, Mala Mare is wholeheartedly recommended.
