“Fawlty Towers in Lapad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Please be warned if you are travelling to Dubrovnik and staying in the Lapad area, do not stay in these disgracefully dirty apartments. There is no sign stating that they are apartments, there are 50 filty broken steps up to the apartments, there is no one there to greet you on arrival, your key is left either in the door or under the mat, and believe me, it does not get any better once inside the dirty, smelly apartments. The bathroom stinks, the kitchen area is filty, the bedding is not clean, the pillows mouldy - During our 10 day stay, not once did the apartment owner make themselves known to us, the apartment was not cleaned or rubbish removed at all during our 10 day holiday. Having been to Dubrovnik before and having had a thououghly enjoyable time, I was horrified at the level of accomodation that we got.

The apartments are fine - basic but with everything you need. There is an unfinished feel about the place but it does the job. I wouldn't want to stay more than a night for the price. Particularly when I'd stayed three nights in Dubrovnik old town a week earlier for the same price but in a beautifully refurbished old building. The Lapad area has the package tour feel and look to it. There are some lovely rocky bathing spots along the water front which are nice. The owner was friendly and helpful.

We were warned about the steps up to our Apartment but other than that this was as close to perfection as it comes. The flight from Dublin is perfectly timed. Arrive at 11 30 their time in the morning. Taxi to apartment prearranged and reasonable €40. apartment had AC ,anything you needed, Sat TV and WI FI if you bring lap top. Once you adapt to the steps you soon realise the beach, supermarket and prom is beside you. The bus/taxi to Old town of Dubrovnik reasonably close and reasonably priced. Great food and great selection of places to eat. Old Town is so beautiful. Tried the three island trip. Worth it. You know what to expect in Croatia... stony beaches with warmish water, all day sunshine 29-32 all eleven days we were there. Had a great view from apartment which made up for the climb. Looking forward to returning.

Lovely stay. Small, basic, very clean and appears newly-refurbished apartment within lovely old house right on water-front with great views. Very friendly owners. Beautiful gardens with pets that kept my children amused for hours and play equipment. Very much an authentic experience of Dubrovnik rather than a hotel. Easy bus ride into town but local facilities excellent and within 5 min walk. Definitely recommended. Excellent value for money.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

Had a 5 day trip in June 2012 and stayed in one of the one bed apts. Its clean, has a nice view from the balcony, the owners were great, let us stay on till 5pm as we had a late flight back. It's ideally situated in a quiet residential part of Lapad - which is about 2 - 3 miles from the historic centre of Dubrovnik. The no 6 bus which is just a minute walk over the roundabout will take you to Dubrovnik for 12 Kuna (buy tickets from the little red kiosks it works out slightly cheaper than paying direct on the bus) They just stamp the tickets and they are valid for an hr. The apt could do with updating especially the bedding - I wouldn't say it was interior design but they bedding was clean at least and the living room was big enough for 2 with a table an chairs and a balcony with a table chairs and a clothes airer. Twin beds though - a lot of 1 bed places here seem to shove them together. The apt has a really good air-con unit an a washing machine, the kitchen had everything you could want but no microwave or oven - just 2 rings and no kettle or toaster....so unless you are inventive with cooking I would advise you eat out - it's reasonable and it's not in Euro's. There is a large supermarket just up past the bus stop - 3 mins walk it's called Tommi I think and it had great fresh fruit/veg/bread/steak etc.....really cheap too. The apt is just a minute away from the long promenade that leads down to Lapad Beach which is really lovely and peaceful......lined with pavement cafe's bars and eateries. It's a really relaxing place to be after a hard days sightseeing - we absolutely loved it - the apt wasn't luxury but it was 3 star basic accom - all you need for a sightseeing trip really if you are on a budget but want lots of scope. We will return and would stay here again - the bakery is right opposite and sell milk, juice, soft drinks water etc bread, cakes and savoury things. Open late too. Taxi rank for the airport is just near the no 6 bus stop too - near the Tommi supermarket. I would stay here again - it's away from the crowds of Dubrovnik, it's fairly quiet so you get a decent night's sleep and it has night life if you want to get back to base and chill out with a cocktail after sightseeing. Dubrovnik by bus is 10 mins and they seem to run every 10 - 15 mins up till late. Check out Buzza Bar on the far right side of the city walls for a stunning sunset overlooking the sea with chilled music and a view to die for. Avoid the fruit and veg market in the centre of Dubrovnik as it's overpriced and the supermarket sells everything there even the walnut, plum and other varieties of croation brandy, honey and nick nacks.....the market is really for the cruise ship visitors who are in and out in a flash. Do walk round the walls - do visit the museum at Rectors Palace it was fabulous. Do the boat trip to Lokrum - beware the nudist beach there unless you want to sunbathe nude that is 8-) Buy your tickets for Lokrum boat trip next to the boat that goes there every hour - it's right towards the end of the harbour.....don't be tempted to book via small booths as you get a tiny boat and if it's slightly choppy you won't actually get there -they turn back....met a few travellers that had their island trips cancelled. Babin Kuk beach is just up the hill from the apt - take a bus there and back if you don't fancy the 15 - 20 min walk. Sunbed and umbrellas are 30 kuna each per day....the same with all the beaches we found... snorkelling was ok - lots of colourful fish. Enjoy !

Room Tip: We had the apt in the middle of the block it was great for the view.

First time been to Croatia had a week at self Catering apartment in Lapad, we were above the owners house Lovorko and Andja a lovely couple who left you alone but was always available if needed. there was a welcoming pack consisting all the essentials + wine bread milk coffee plenty of fruit in fact everything needed for a couple of days this house is on the Front of Lapad promenade after going down after going down the steps where the restaurants are Turn Left and the large Supermarket "Tommy" is situated. Lapad is a very laid back place no hassle at all not even after you have had your meal sit as long as you like very Picturesque extremely clean even in wooden areas if you like walking go down to the sea front and just walk if you fancy a sunbathe there are dozens of steps down to the sea get your Towel out and either Sunbathe, swim. The sea is very clear and clean. GRUZ is about 15 minutes walk to the Harbour where you can walk round to the other side or a boat will take you across for a nominal fee.. Buses run regular to the old town cost 10 Kuna (8 to the £1) Back to Kaolina House there is a large main room full cooking facilities if required 2 Bedrooms Double & single unusually plenty of Cupboards and drawers 2 good size wardrobes with abundance of coat hangers a large Bathroom a beautiful veranda with table and chairs with Kiwi fruits overhanging all very tranquil if you want peace & quite this is the place to stay no disco's close by where you hear load music from the balcony Lapad is a easy going resort where you can stroll about with no hassle. the only reason 4star instead of 5 is the view from the balcony is of roof tops and the forest ahead still a good view but would of been nice to have a sea view if it had a certain 5 stars but don't let the 4 stars put you off. booked via Thomson Tried putting a couple of pictures of the property on But trip adviser kept rejecting them so gave up at the end
