“Amazing service, great food, lovely pool - a real boutique hotel in Croatia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2010

We only stayed for 2 nights - but the staff and owners of this hotel did everything to make our trip a perfect stay. Its the level of service you hardly get at home - in a beautifully renovated hotel. Everything was perfect - they planned our onward travel, gave us tips to eat out and offered all the help we needed to explore Dubrovnik. The pool is brilliant after a day walking the walls, breakfast can be as much or as little as you wish and the rooms are lovely. If you're looking for a proper boutique hotel in Dubrovnik - its here !

l can honestly say that the Kazbek Hotel is one of the best hotels in which we have ever stayed, and for a number of reasons. The first reason, the one that made it most special for us, was the staff, and the way they looked after us. We felt like favourite relatives.
Then the building itself is special, an old, sixteenth century cut-stone building which was used by noble families as a summer retreat. It has been lovingly and graciously restored, and furnished and decorated with charm and dignity. It is beautifully appointed. It is not a big hotel – there are only twelve bedrooms – and this adds to its appeal, because you can almost feel you are a visitor in an elegant town house. Our spacious room looked out over the harbour on one side, and the swimming pool on the other.
There is an atmosphere of calm ease. We had come on holiday feeling very tired, and we found ourselves quickly and happily relaxing.
The food is very good indeed, the best in Dubrovnik we thought – and Croatian wine is also very good -- so that we tended to come back to the hotel for dinner rather than eat out. At breakfast time we sat at a table near the window and looked out over the harbour, just forty-five feet away, at the cruise ships, the fishermen, the motor boats, the young men sculling, the sailing ships, the passing parade of school children, and university students, and people walking their dogs.
But as I said, what makes the Kazbek most special is the staff. Antun and Mario in the dining room seemed to anticipate our every need. Jenny at the reception desk patiently answered all my endless questions. Nothing was too much trouble. We left the Kazbek feeling that we had made friends.

Dear Muireann1,

Wow! What an amazing review! We are glad that you spoke so highly on such a wide range of things about our hotel especially about our staff.
It is truly wonderful to know that you left the Kazbek feeling that you had made friends. Mario, Antun, Jenny and other colleagues are so happy to hear this.
Our staff works extremely hard to meet guests needs and we appreciate the encouragement to continue doing so.

Trusting we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to the Kazbek in the near future, we remain with the best regards,

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and we wished it was more. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated. The service was exceptional and Jenny (at reception) was so helpful. We stayed in Havar for 4 nights and then moved on to Dubrovnik (wish it was 7 nights here). I would not hesitate to stay here again. The hotel is small but the food (especially the breakfast) and facilities are great. The hotel comes with a price but it is worth every penny. It is about 3km from the old town but the bus service is every 10 mins ( we usually ended up waiting only 5 mins - seem more frequent). We came back totally refreshed and relaxed. What a place......

We stayed at the hotel for four nights and cannot say enough what a great hotel this is. The rooms were spotless and well appointed. The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The location, in my opinion, was fantastic, close enough to visit Dubrovnik old town, whether by bus or taxi, we walked in one day which took about 35 mins. The speed boat transfer was a highlight of our trip to Croatia. The pool area was great and although very quiet I had no problem with using the pool shower or the pool itself. Breakfast was fantastic with a great range provided. Well worth a visit and we will return sometime.

We chose this hotel after a lot of research and did not regret a moment. Service was personal, the cleanliness world class and every wish was almost made a command.Room was beautifully done up, perfect for a couple and just the right amount of space.Breakfast was sumptuous and perfectly a-la-carte.Hotel staff were eager to please, housekeeping was competent and the location is away from the buzz of the old town, but just a bus ride away. The manager took personal care and we enjoyed every bit of the holiday, including the cruise on the hotel yacht. We did not want to leave!

We stayed in this hotel for an entire week and felt like royalty the entire time. The hotel is exactly how it looks online. The rooms are very big (even the cheaper ones). When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was kind enough to get all of our bags without delay and bring them to our room. Checking in was easy as we ate fresh fruit with complimentary water. It seemed even when we left our room for a half hour breakfast, which is included, the beds were already made. VERY CLEAN hotel. The breakfast was amazing!! Fresh fruit, caffeine of your choice, fresh croissants, fresh bread, fresh juice, eggs of your choice etc. Clearly, breakfast was a highlight of each morning. The dinner was perfect, pricey, but good. I would try it once for the taste of a 200 year old recipe, but expect a $120 bill. The drinks were reasonably priced. A couple dollars for a beer, mixed drinks were probably $5 dollars and the wines were $30 and above, but the best wine in Croatia. My only complaint would be that the hotel book says they can exchange money, and they did, all but one time. I am not sure if the staff member was not entrusted to handle money or simply they changed their policy the third day of the month. But they said they are too small of a hotel to exchange money (I was trying to exchange $100, nothing crazy). It was a little awkward from then on, the staff person was perplexed by my request. I do have one other forewarning, which I would not hold to the hotel, but there would be about 12 people or so at the pool reading at times during the day. I am not against reading, but you would get dirty looks from the guest, when simply swimming in the pool or using the outside shower. It was like quiet time in elementary school. It would have been nice if they had some louder music so people were not whispering in public at the hotel and you did not feel like you were being rude if literally being louder than a whisper. Maybe some people like to feel too classy to enjoy a nice pool, outdoor bar or just be social. This is a perfect hotel for couples looking for a romantic vacation (no children). The old town is far away and the ocean water is not too clean around the hotel, not clean at all compared to California standards. Cruise ships dump trash in the water which was a total bummer everywhere in Dubrovnik. The bus is extremely easy to use and I highly recommend using it if you are looking for some clean beaches or a night out on the town. (Make sure you buy bus tickets at a food stand; I learned that trick too late). All in all, if you are looking for a nice secluded hotel this is well worth the price. Just make sure it is right for the right occasion, if you are under 30 it may be a tad too "sophisticated" as some people like to call it. Additionally, l did not see/find their fitness center as they say they have, but my idea of a fitness center may be a bit too americanized. The internet was also a bit spotty at times. That being said, the staff was very helpful at finding excursions for us when we asked. A GREAT place to propose or stay on an anniversary ;)

Dear MarineTraverse,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review and for sharing your experience with other Tripadvisor users.
We are so happy to hear that you “felt like royalty the entire time”. Thank you for such nice words about check in procedure, staff, our rooms, quality of breakfast and dinner, cleanliness…

Please accept our deepest apology for the difficulties with money exchange.

Thank you for your suggestion in regards to the pool area. We do have a pleasant background music playing there and we are not sure if our guests would appreciate if it plays any louder.

In regards to the water quality around our hotel, as we are situated in the bay right across Dubrovnik commercial port, it is not recommended to swim in front of the hotel due to the water quality. But if you take a short walk of not more than 10 min, you will find nice beaches with very clean seawater. The cleanliness of the seawater at all Dubrovnik beaches has been tested on a regular basis and the tests show an excellent water quality.

We don’t have a fitness center and we are so sorry if you got wrong information. As far as we know it is not published anywhere that the Kazbek hotel has a fitness center.

Thank you again for your comments and we hope you will give us a chance to welcome you again if your travel plans bring you back to Dubrovnik area.

Sincerely,

Hotel Kazbek Management

We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was an excellent choice. A lovely location two miles from the old city at the edge of the harbour, beautiful and tranquil. The old city was easily reached - either by bus (five minute walk to the bus stop £1.25 each way if you buy your ticket on the bus, £1.00 if you buy your ticket from the kiosk which is at the bus stop), £7.50 each way by taxi.
The hotel itself is beautifully restored and charming. Our room was spacious, our bathroom huge and everything was spotlessly clean. We were on a B&B basis and the breakfast was extensive and freshly prepared for you rather than from a buffet that had been standing for some time. Whilst we could not fault the hotel for anything, the staff themselves were outstanding - helpful and friendly. Would we recommend this to anybody else - absolutely. A true boutique hotel experience that lives up to the other good reviews on this site.
