“An amazing holiday in a beautiful country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We recently stayed at the Hotel Kazbeck based on reviews on TripAdvisor. It was also our first visit to Crotia and we were not disappointed. The Kazbeck is a great boutique hotel with fantastic facilities and conveniently situated close to the Old City and surprisingly quiet beaches. The staff were more than helpful, the food was excellent. Our only complaint was that the pool far too hot at 96 degrees Fahrenheit particularly when it was the same at the air temperature!!! This hotel is definitely worth putting on your list of places to stay.

Dear Mike S,

And how wonderful is to hear that we managed to fulfill your expectations. Thank you so much, we are all indeed very happy that you had an amazing holiday at our Kazbek hotel.
Oh yes, it was really extremely hot on some days in June and although the heating at our pool was switched off it still felt quite warm. We apologize about it.
Thank you again for your excellent review and recommendations.

Regards from Dubrovnik,

Pave Miloglav

This beautifully renovated structure has all the creature comforts, including a beautiful pool area. It is located out of the mainstream but close to buses that can take you to the old town or elsewhere. The advantage is that you are across the street from the harbor with views of the boats and cruise ships.

Perhaps the best feature of this hotel is the wonderful staff. Not only were they very helpful during our stay, but mailed us back to the US a few clothing items my wife left behind. I offered reimbursement for their trouble but they declined.

We ate one night in the lovely gourmet restaurant and the food was wonderful. The only surprise was how empty it was, but perhaps the pricing kept some away. But the food and service were a good value.

Pool lovely pictures don't do this hotel justice it's beautiful, would defiantly go back. Staff were very helpful and professional.
The only thing Id say was it was a shame it wasn't closer to the old town.

We have just enjoyed our second week at the wonderful Hotel Kazbek. We went last year in late August and when we got off the plane at Leeds-Bradford my wife asked whether we could go again for 2013. Well she didn’t ask me she told me. So we did – and have just enjoyed another great week in Dubrovnik.
So what’s so great about this hotel?
1. The people – discrete but friendly. It’s not like staying in a hotel but like a home from home. No-one hovering at your shoulder asking if everything is OK – of course it is.
2. The Rooms = Excellent
3. The Food = Excellent. Especially breakfast – everything is made to your specification whether it’s eggs (anyway you want), roasted vegetables, pastries and lots of good coffee and fruit.
4. The pool – I’m not a person for sitting in the sun doing nothing but managed to read two books there including David Copperfield. If it gets too hot – cool off in the pool or go into the shade of one of the gazebos.
5. Location – Dubrovnik Old Town 5/10 mins away on the bus (Babin Kuk/ Number 6) – just walk up the alley by the side of the hotel and up to the roundabout and you can catch the bus there. Coming back it drops you off just 100m from the hotel.
6. If you fancy and Island Trip – the boats will pick you up at the harbour of Gruz Bay.
7. Finally, the friendly staff at Zazbek are very good at giving you guidance and recommendations on places to go.
MY TIP: If you have time catch a boat or bus to Cavtat – do go and try and get a table in Bugenvila (in my opinion the best restaurant in the town).
The Kazbek Villa was constructed in 1573 by one of the Dubrovnik noble families Zamanja as a summer residence. Although designed as place for peace and relaxation history had other plans and the villa passed through various violent ages (this is from the hotel’s website).
Firstly it was burned and plundered in 1806 by aggressors which left only the bare shell of the building standing. Then during the World War II the building was used by the aggressors as a detention centre for prisoners of war. After the war the castle was confiscated by the government of the time and used as a school and then as a storage unit.
Ownership then changed hands several times before it was finally acquired by Pervanovo in 2006.
The interior of Kazbek went through a complete overhaul by Pervanovo in order to both modernise the old castle and at the same time bring it back to its former glory - which is very pleasing.
Final tip – if you are having dinner at the hotel have aperitifs before dinner and coffee later on the terrace with views over the bay.

Room Tip: Any room is good - but one looking on to the courtyard is very pleasant

The old town of Dubrovnik is lovely but the sheer number of tourists can be overwhelming. Hotel Kazbek is a short (10 mins or so) bus ride away from the madness of the old town and has a lovely spot overlooking the harbour. Its a great place to retreat to and relax after a day's exploration. If you want to be slap bang in the middle of the action, this hotel is not for you. If you want a good night's sleep and be close enough to the the old town and harbour then you will be fine here.

The hotel has been tastefully restored and has some excellent outdoor spaces in the courtyard, the pool area and roof terrace. We took a relaxing massage in a private area by the pool, which was bliss.

Rooms are well appointed and spotless. The breakfast menu is extensive. We will return to this hotel next time we visit Dubrovnik!

We spent five nights in Dubrovnik in May 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We chose the Hotel Kazbek based in Trip Advisor comments are were not disappointed. Arrived later than expected due to flight delays and warmly welcomed. Our room was on the second floor, spacious and well appointed with nice touches to make the most of the historic building. Breakfast was extensive and served on the terrace on warm days. The hotel is a 40-minute walk to the Old City or a 10-minuted bus trip. We loved Dubrovnik and its people, so friendly and helpful. Touring the walls is a must-do, and we made a boat trip to Lokrum island (not too interesting) and bus/boat trip to Cavtat, a lovely small town. We used the pool after our day days. Ate dinner one evening in the hotel which was well prepared and served. Got good advice at the front desk on restaurants for other evenings (as well as on transportation). Overall, a fine hotel that makes an ideal base for seeing this lovely city and area.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have smaller windows than the first floor.
