“Perfect way to experience Dubrovnik”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

You live in the thick of the historic, UNESCO world heritage part of the city when you stay here, down a small medieval street, around the corner from one of the plazas so off the tour group trails but still within minutes of all the fantastic sites. A great cafe/restaurant at your doorstep. Comfortable room with everything you need. Perfect place to experience Dubrovnik. And the host Marc Bloemen is most hospitable, has a nice sense of humor, and helpful in every way. Arranged a taxi for us at the airport and met us at the city gate - yes, this medieval city with marble streets does not allow cars inside city walls. The only thing missing is the moat ! The location can not be beat, right on the wall. We arrived by plane from Munich and they arranged for our taxi pickup. We were greeted at the wall entrance and escorted to the hotel. This was such a nice touch and along the walk we were given tips on restaurants and shopping and elightful Dubrovnik trivia. We had two rooms on the main floor. One was very small but worked. The other room was much more spacious with a small sitting area. The restaurant right down the stairs from the hotel entrance was fabulous and also very convenient for a night cap. This city is wonderful - put on your walking shoes and just wander. We took the gondola up the hill and for a lunch with a spectacular view. There are many boating excursions to choose from. We did the glass bottom boat and a trip to the island (with hiking and a beach) which was great.

Stayed for a second time at the Karmen apartments 12th to 19th October 2013 previously July 2009,will definitely visit again and will not consider staying anywhere else.
Had a read at previous reviews to consider what to say in mine but just stuck for words it has already all been said.
My wife and myself stayed 3 nights in the larger of the two ground apartments which is apartment 3 then moved upstairs to apartment 2 for the remaining 4 nights of our stay which has a quiet secluded balcony overlooking a small courtyard.
Marc the ever gentleman host and his lovely wife Silva cannot do enough to make your stay welcoming and has a wealth of knowledge on Dubrovnik past and present having stayed there for the last 40 years
Marc was also able to arrange taxis to and from the airport and again it was Nikoli (sorry in advance for any wrong spelling) that came to pick us up same as in 2009 and as prompt as ever 250 kunos each way.
In my previous review in 2009 i had mentioned that Marc misses his Heinz baked beans from the UK, so it was nice to put a smile on his face when i presented him with a 4 pack of this rare and luxury item,we were fortunate the weight allowance allowed us to do this flying with Easyjet. So i say again pop a tin in if you can.
Take a taxi boat to Cavtat 100kunos return each and spend a day browsing through the many small shops then for lunch at one of the local restaurants,i would recommend the Poseiden restaurant.
Cable car ride 94kunos return and have lunch in the Panorama cafe overlooking the magnificent views of Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: Any of them having stayed in them all except Apartment 1 which has views overlooking the harbour. A...

This was my second visit and just as good as the first - the location is up the quiet end of town away from the day-tripping crowds so is a wonderful retreat; good swimming is a walk away jus outside the old port; excellent fish dinners are just downstairs for very sensible prices (sensible prices can be hard to find in Dubrovnik); the morning veggie market and supermarket are just around the corner; the jewellery shops are way too close for comfort (you can walk everywhere); the best entrance to walk the old walls is just around the corner; the air-conditioning, bathroom and kitchen work well, the bed is comfortable; the whole house if full of charm and character, wonderful colours and craft work; and the host is a delight - helpful, kind, honest and with stories to entertain and delight.

Room Tip: Higher apartments have a view to die for - I have to travel as cheaply as possible so go for the gro...

Just visited and as usual Marc and family very friendly, informative, delightfully opinionated, and helpful in all aspect of Croatian life!

The apartment is perfectly located for a 3/4 day stay in Dubrovnik, not so great for touring the area due to excessive car parking fees by the local council.

The apartment is great on space but needs new bed pillows as uncomfortable and one or two new kitchen utensils and pans as they are past their comfort and usefulness levels.

All in all the location is great and very comfortable but needs to be kept invested in to keep it at Number 1 in Dubrovnik. !

Room Tip: Room Number 1 is the best for views

We stayed in Apartment 1 for five nights. Marc organised taxi from airport and met us at Ploce Gate. The apartment was very clean and comfortable with lovely view over the harbour. We enjoyed watching the walkers on the walls right outside our windows. The apartment was cleaned and linen changed half way through our stay. Marc recommended restaurants, places to see and marked them all on a map for us. We didn't cook, only made breakfast as there were so many places to choose from within a short walk. We loved this place and Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: We loved Room 1 with its view over the harbour

To stay with Marc, right at the harbour in the old town of Dubrovnik is very pleasant. Right from the beginning service was excellent. March replies quickly to emails, organised a taxi from the airport, met us at the gate and made sure that we settled in. The room we had was great for two adults and a young child - our son loved to have his own tiny room to sleep in. The kitchen is basic but equipped with what you need for making a simple dinner when you have had enough of restaurant food. The market selling fresh fruit and veg is within a 3 minute walk as well as a small supermarket and butcher. The decoration of the apartment is very personal, the exact opposite of the chain hotels you will find all over the world.

Room Tip: Just tell Marc what your requirements are, and I am sure he will find what fits you the best.
