“Small and luxury - in the UNESCO protected heritage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

I see some travelers were disappointed with no elevator issue; both annexes of the hotel and the hotel itself are positioned within the walls of over 1700 years old Diocletian's Palace, which is protected as UNESCO's world heritage. There can not be elevators inside the palace as UNESCO insists on as authentic as possible preserved condition.
It is exactly as branded; small and luxury hotel.
Vila Dobric is dislocated from the hotel, but not more than 10 minutes of really slow walk with window-shopping included. For past 8 years, all my clients who have been once at Vestibul hotel want to come back again there. It is the first hotel on my list that I recommend in Split to clients who are ready to spend that amount of money. Service is excellent and helpful.

Room Tip: If you have problems with stairs, as there is no elevator, try to book room on lower floor.

The Vestibul Palace was booked, so we took a room in the Annex - the Villa Dobric. Although there are many good things you can say about it, we were surprised at how very small the room was and how basic the accomodations were for a hotel that has the "small Luxury Hotels of The World' plaque outside it's front door. First the positives: excellent location in the historic center, very clean and well maintained, extraordinary customer service. It is true that a breakfast is served on the main floor of the VIlla Dobric, but it is minimal - just a few items - so we walked the few blocks to the main hotel to have their full breakfast (which was excellent.) I imagine that this would be difficult if we were older or had health problems, since there were a number of steep stairs that had to be climbed at the Villa Dobric. (No elevator. The entrance itself is up a steep set of stone stairs, and then you have to climb one or two more flights to get to your room.) It is true that the rooms at the Dobric are less expensive, but it still seemed very pricey for the uncomfortably small room we got. I think the issue here is one of 'advertising.' The Villa Dobric should be not be presented to the public as a luxury property. If we had known what we were getting, we would not have been so disappointed. The main hotel may not having any of these problems. To leave this on a positive note, here is an example of the excellent customer service: we had to purchase catamaran tickets to Hvar and we had heard that we needed to be at the ticket booth between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning. The hotel staff insisted on sending someone over to the ticket booth early that morning for us, so we could enjoy our last morning in Split in a leisurely manner, There was no charge for doing this.

This may not be the easiest hotel to find, but if you ask for directions from the hotel beforehand you will find it. The rooms are not big, but very well planned out with lots of storage areas. We stayed 3 nights, so unpacking our suitcases was desirable and we had a spot to put everything.
The staff at this hotel are fabulous - very attentive and friendly and eager to ensure your stay is comfortable.
If you are booking this hotel I would suggest get one of the suites or larger rooms. I would also caution you against sleeping with your windows open as we experienced late night partiers wandering through the vestibule/pantheon next to our windows and then breaking into song in the acoustically perfect vestibule/pantheon.
We ate at the hotel one night and had a very good meal there. Breakfasts were also good with a la carte eggs available.
The best par of this hotel experience is that you are in the actual old palace and there is a magical feel to the entire experience.

Room Tip: Choose a room that is a suite to get extra space

Once again the Trip Advisor rating was so accurate - location was impeccable, the service was the best of all the hotels on this holiday, the room was as good as you might expect in a building which was 1700 years old - and nothing was too much to ask of them (including staying an extra night rather than stay on Hvar in the rain). The location and facilities around the hotel made it a pleasure and one I would recommend to anybody travelling to Split.

Room Tip: Room 5 was great - quiet, but when we wanted we could open the window to hear the music in the. Town...

Set in the most convenient location right in the palace walls, we found this a little gem, great service and the staff could not do enough and were also helpful with advice for other aspects of the trip.

Rooms had all you need, breakfast was great. Would thoroughly recommend.

A stunning hotel by design and faultless service by probably the most proffesional team in Croatia led by Mr. Boris. It serves the best breakfast in the whole of the Balkans! Great wines and tasty food, tip top rooms and excellent recommendations. We are highly critical travellers and Hotel Vestibul is at the top of their game. You must stay here.

The hotel is in the heart of the old town in split. The service in this hotel is superior and extremely friendly. The staff can not do enough for you. The rooms and look of the hotel is quite average though.

As this is close to nearly everything in Split, it is worth a visit.
