“Believing or not, better to rub the toe!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

I always rub the toe of the statue while passing by it, in the summer is more complicated cause everybody is around it in search of good luck. The statue located at the entrance of the palace gate is stunning and suntuous. Worth a visit :-)

“Grgur Ninski”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Well, it was everything it was cracked up to be - a very big statue with a toe rubbed golden from people touching it. Not sure it brought us luck, but it was a great sight to see.

“Mestrovic in a nutshell.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Monumental, melodramatic sculpture towering over the northern entrance to Diocletian's Palace. Mestrovic is as divisive an artist as Gaudi, but this is absolutely worth a quick detour to admire his audacity.

“Bishop of Nin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The statue is very old.

It's located behind the Diocletian Palace, by the palace gate.

People in Split believe that if you rub the statues big toe, you get good luck.
The toe is worn from all the rubbing on it and is now discolored.

“Rubbed the toes and came back after 40 years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

This was the third time that I have been in Split. In 1969, I rubbed the toes of Grgur Ninski and I came back in 1972. Then 40 years later I came back to once again rub the toes of this statue. Not once, but I rubbed the toes 3 times in two weeks.. What a terrific statue by Ivan Mestrovic, so powerful and full of emotion. Well worth a visit. My tip for the traveller - take plenty of photographs from a number of distances and angles.
