“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Great location. Staff excellent and very helpful. Good breakfast. Lovely rooms. Modern interior. No lift yet. But staff to take your luggage upstairs for you. They also have bikes here. Would really recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you choose a balcony room. They serve your breakfast there

The plusses..
Fantastic location inside the palace, really quick to get just about anywhere.
The free wifi worked a treat.
The reception staff were charming and helpful.
The minusses.
No lift, had to drag heavy luggage up and down flights of stairs
Very simple breakfast in an overcrowded room, with INSTANT coffee! Come on......
The shower drain in our room smelled really bad, and the handles had fallen of the shower doors.
Way too little bathroom requisites, we had to use our own shower gel and conditioner.
Difficult to stop light pollution through the flimsy curtains.

This hotel is convenient to Old Town and to the Promenade. Nice rooms, comfortable beds. Easy walking distance to the ferries to the islands and to the bus station (to anywhere.) Drop-off from the airport, too, is easy walking distance. Very nice, helpful desk attendants. Nice (albeit very European) breakfast. Just a great place.

I would highly recommend the Hotel Slavija - great staff - super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, beautiful hotel, very clean and neat, great room big enough for a family of 4 (2 teens) and solid breakfast (nothing fancy but plenty to get you going and on your way). Aslo great location - right, well located in the Old City. Tripadvisor is taking away a lot of the guesswork and the reviews for H. Slavija were dead on! Next time I'm in Split, I'll stay in the H. Slavija!

When in Split, stay in Diocletian's Palace! A small group of us stayed here a few weeks ago and loved it. The front desk staff was very friendly and the rooms were all unique in size and layout, definitely not like a chain hotel. The breakfast room was a bit small however, especially for the group of us but the location trumped that so we didn't mind. You can find cafes, gelato stands, bars, and restaurants just out the front door. The port is also within walking distance so it's a perfect location if you are catching an early morning ferry to the islands.

We loved this hotel. I'm a book lover, so we greatly appreciated all the good books about the lobby. Despite its contemporary feel, the hotel is designed to incorporate its ancient walls into the design. We enjoyed it. The breakfast was just average in a cramped little room.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

This was my second visit to Split but my first stay at the Hotel Slavija. I was overwhelmed with the level of service and the quality of the room. It is the 3 star hotel but I have visited 3 star hotels in Europe and this is far more than just 3 stars Hotel.

The room has an understated elegance that is unparalleled in any hotel I have stayed in. The decor is thoughtfully soothing with the perfect color. The bed was sumptuously made and dreamy to fall into each evening.

The concierge and all staff we encountered were gracious and helpful. Helped with information regarding their town, we would miss so many nice things withouth their help.

My doughter is traveling with her friend next summer in Split, and already made a reservation for them, This is how impressed I am with this Hotel.

Room Tip: Just talk to the staff on the reception or manager, she will be a great help

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Slavija is type of a heritage hotel due to its location, history and protection by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and UNESCO. The Diocletian's Palace was built in the middle of the 3rd century AD, while the Hotel Slavija was built inside its walls, above the Emperor's western baths. Therefore, it can be concluded that the building of the hotel influenced the protection of the Baths from the devastation. With time the building of the hotel expanded, and from the Baroque palace it became today's Hotel Slavija. Hotel Slavija is under the protection of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and in part is protected by the UNESCO. The location in the very center of the town makes Hotel Slavija an ideal choice for a stay in Split, surrounded by all relevant historical buildings of the city of Split, including the Temple of Jupiter, the St. Duje Cathedral, the Milesi palace... It is ideal place for both business and pleasure travelers because of its location. Hotel is situated in the very center of the city and is but a few minutes walk from all the major attractions as well as from the main bus terminal, airport shuttle terminal, railway station and ferry. The hotel has 25 rooms and each room is air conditioned, with private bath, hair dryer, satellite TV, Internet connection and direct dial telephone. Some of the rooms are with terraces and Hotel is especially proud to present them because, terraces are rarity in the old part of Split. In the lobby of the hotel is Internet Hot spot, which is free for hotel guests. We also provide faxing, copying, printing and scanning, as well as laundry service. ... more   less
