“Great location and exceptional service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Our stay was great with a clean room. Location was just of one of the squares with a sun terrace to relax.

Breakfast in the morning was continental buffet.

Front desk staff bent over backwards to help us such as buying our Hvar ferry tickets on our behalf.

Split is a fantastic city and this hotel could not be in a better location to explore it from. It is a quiet lovely hotel close to everything. The rooms were very comfortable, the bathrooms really nice and the breakfast was a wonderful way to start the day.

We stayed at the Marmont Hotel for two nights in early June 2013. It is a delightful little hotel. Excellent location right in the middle of the old town which means there is no vehicle access. It is only a short walk from the road however and the hotel can help with bags also. We particularly liked the fact that the hotel was an elegant marriage of the old and the new. It fitted right into the atmosphere but had enough modern luxury to suite a tied traveller. The bathroom was a good size and well designed -- both often lacking in European hotels. At check-in I asked for soy milk for breakfast. Not only did they supply that but also soy yogurt too. The staff were efficient and helpful, the hotel is placed so that a traveller can wander out to see the sites of the old city and drop back in to pick-up a coat or drop off shopping etc. Breakfast was good. Overall a great little hotel, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Very small hotel but ask for a room above the ground floor.

This hotel was tucked away in the location in the old town. An easy walk to the port, restaurants, and of course the old town. Andrea was particularly helpful with restaurant recommendations which were excellent. The rooms were a comfortable size with plenty of storage for large bags and were well appointed. Breakfasts were good. The hotel can arrange a transfer service with an electric car for your luggage to the port. There is a fee. We had a car when we arrived. The best place to park is in Riva Carpark. If you take the parking ticket to reception at the hotel they get a discount on the Carpark charges. The Carpark address for the GPS is Obala Lazareta. I wish we had this information before we arrived!! Overall a good experience at Hotel Marmont.

This is an ultra-modern hotel of 21rooms contained in an old building adjacent to the old town and a very short distance from the harbour-front. Its position does not allow attached balconies to the rooms or a swimming pool, but there is a terrace without views on the second floor. The problem is there is not enough space throughout the hotel for the prices charged. A receptionist told me that our deluxe room in high season cost 300euros b/b nightly (we came via an agency)This purchased a room scarcely larger than a good airport hotel room admittedly with a supremely comfortable bed. The bathroom is of smart contemporary design until you use the facilities! If your knees, hips, or spine are past their best you may well have problems using the bath (we did) and therefore it would be wise to seek a room that has a shower.Incidently a retractible string across the bath would have been helpfull to dry smalls at night. In three days I did not fathom how to work the handbasin plug.Other reviewers have commented on the impracticalities of the breakfast room -jugs of fruit juices(not very good) milk, and thermosjugs of coffee are placed on a top shelf almost out of reach of guests of short stature. On balance I feel that too much has been squeezed in to the available space and the hotel lacks soul. Ending on a good point the reception staff are very helpfull.

This lovely, smallish hotel in a great location falls short of earning the full 5-star/excellent rating, mostly because the space is altogether a bit cramped, from the (almost non-existent) lobby area, to the breakfast room, and especially to the rooms themselves. We stayed 2 nights, in the highest (largest) level of room, the Deluxe, which provides a few more amenities than the lower 2 levels, like bathrobes/slippers, and in-room coffee/tea maker. Whether this is worth the premium is debatable, because the room is still very snug, and the extra 2-square meters was not even noticeable as far as extra space in the room. When I studied the rooms chart it looked as if we had been put into a lower (smaller) category of room - because there did look to be slightly larger rooms - and they simply moved the coffee maker in along with the bathrobes so it would qualify as a Deluxe! Anyway, beware that the pictures on the website are taken with a fish-eye lens, and your room will most likely be much smaller than you are expecting, especially for the price - this is not an inexpensive property.

That said, the hotel is spotlessly clean, and the bathrooms have sleek modern fixtures with a great shower with great water pressure. I didn't find the breakfast anything special, although it certainly covered the bases. However, as so many others have pointed out, the area is cramped, but you can take your meal up to the 2nd floor - that is, if you are comfortable getting up/down the stairs while carrying hot drinks, plates of food, and juice glasses.

Be sure to take advantage of the 2nd-floor terrace - when we were there we had it to ourselves, and it definitely helps to make up for the lack of space and lounging area in the rooms. The hotel's location is ideal for several reasons, most important of which is its quiet spot in the old town, just outside the old palace walls, and therefore at a bit of a remove from the more concentrated activity of that area. We slept very well, which might have been more difficult in a number of the hotels within the walls.

Getting to the hotel by car is another challenge, and their directions are not great. Our phone wasn't working, so my husband had to keep driving around (he wasn't allowed to park for even a minute) while I ran into the pedestrianized area to get to the hotel - and then had to ask several people where the hotel was. You will NOT be able to find it on your own, I don't care if you are a bloodhound. This parking process is definitely awkward, and it is probably best to arrive to this hotel and town by pre-arranged pickup! Despite the fact that I had reserved a parking space months ahead of time (and written again to re-confirm with our actual arrival time), when they took me to the parking (because it has to be unlocked), the spot intended for us was occupied, apparently by someone who worked at the hotel! So it took another 20 minutes to get that person to come get her car, while we squeezed off the road (given its width a near impossibility), and only then could we finally park and walk to the hotel. Not an easy arrival!

All in all, if you are only in Split for a night, you will spend most of your time out in the town, sightseeing and enjoying the unique ambiance of this amazing place, having a drink along the Riva, etc., and the cramped accommodation will barely be noticed. Instead, you will be grateful for the quiet night's sleep, and the spotless condition of every nook and cranny of this property.

We arrived and got a transfer to the hotel, we were dropped off at a car park where our bags were given to a staff member with an electric cart while we walked beside it - around about 400 meters to the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and informative and the rooms are a good size and nicely styled. The breakfast area is tiny and has around eight tables which if they are full makes it difficult to move around. The food is good though just time it right and you will be okay. The location is just behind the water so you are within walking distance to everything, it can however, become confusing to find places as the roads are small and look alike so try to get a bearing on where you are before you leave. Overall, it was a nice place to stay just more suited to less guests.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor and had a lot of noise from the room above so it might be a good idea to...
