I stayed here while visiting some friends. I didn't mind the size of the room. The shower issues, were a little annoying, you can't come back from going out and take a shower (late at night) because the owner goes to bed and they shut the boiler/heater off. Also the roach problem in the room where I stayed was terrible. I saw roaches on the floor, bathroom, wall, nigtstand... I was fortunate enough not to have paid for that night yet, so late and all, I was leaving to another hotel, when the guy in charge of the door at night called the owner, who told me that I had to pay for that night even though we'd had the roach problem and couldn't take a shower. I wasn't going to do that! I think a good hotel owner should recognize when there is a problem and try to make the client feel as good as possible, which did not happen. I left anyway and found a very nice place just around the corner where we stayed the other two nights, waay better showers, place, patio, everything and NO ROACHES. Do the research, and only pay for one night if you want to stay here, check it out and then decide if you want to stay, trust me, you don't want to sleep with the roaches so close to you.

We are terrible surprised by this visious report, we do not know who sent it and if it were true in three years of operating we are sure there would have been other similar complains.
We can not compete in size with other hotels but we compete in cleaniness and service, proof of this, are all the other rewiews.
Sincerely,
Rosario Faass

We visited during Semana Santa and rates were high and availiblity was limited. Though I started searching in December, I was put off by some of the high rates. I was asked by Hotel Cristina to pay in advance via paypal and to commit for four days.

The rooms are very, very small, even the "deluxe" rooms. There is no courtyard, which is common in Antigua. Many of the rooms have windows only on the hallway and if you want air, you have to open the window to the hallway and other guests can watch you sleep. The noise from other guests is also a problem. My son, who slept downstairs, reported he could hear me snore upstairs.

I was disappointed in the quality of the baths (very small, shower curtain too short to contain the water) and there are one or two rooms with a TV but the TV was in poor condition and you could not see the images.

Even though we paid for four nights we left after two.

The staff is very friendly and I resist making this negative recommendation because I like the people, it is just that we were charged a lot for a very uncomfortable rooms. It is not much different than a hostal.

Antigua is full of scenic places to stay, many with twice the square footage. I resented having to pay in advance, even for Semana Santa. I would say that the hotel was the most negative thing about our visit to Antigua and I would recommend you research other posadas/inns/hotels. There was one right around the corner that was the same price but twice the atmosphere.

A deposit is a regular standard procedure in the hotel industry; we only do it for Seaman Santa and only 50% before your arrival.
Mr. Preston was charged on Holy Week $40.98 +22%tax for one room and $53.27+22% for the other one; which even for Holy Week in Antigua is quite moderate and easy to research.

It’s true our rooms are not huge; we do not have a court yard (only a terrace) or any luxury ameties and we do not advertise as such; for this you will need to pay in Antigua min. $40/person and in Easter prices triple.

We advertise as a clean safe place with comfortable firm beds, cotton white sheets, towels, free internet use (also wireless) for our moderate regular prices$14.75-$32.78 +22% tax (again , easy to research prices in Antigua Guatemala) and located only 1.5 block from La calle el Arco (where restaurants, bars, etc. are) which leads you to the Parque Central (another 3 blocks).

Sincerely,

Rosario Faass

“just what we needed”

We had the chance to stay 3 times in Casa Cristina during our trip in Guatemala, for us it was just what we needed! A small tipical hotel, very well situated on a small street near "La Merced church", it was clean, very secure, pleasant and calm with free internet and for such a reasonnable price, really we could not ask for more. The owners and the staff were always very helpfull, the last time we had the deluxe room on the 3rd floor with large windows with a beautifull view of the volcano .Without hesitation I would recommend it to any of my friend who would be planing a visit to Antigua for a few days.

“Love the Rooster”

Casa Cristina was a wonderful place to stay while in Antigua, we had a very comfortable room with a great view of the volcano, and the sweet sounds of the church bells and the morning greeting of a wonderful rooster, which by the way we LOVE. Reminds you of home in a way, with very accomodating staff and use of the internet and homemade rolls, coffee & tea. It is within walking distance to the park, church, market etc.. We highly reccommend staying here while visiting Antigua. Another plus is they are english speaking which is helpful when your spanish isn't so great.

Thanks again, Casa Cristina
We Love You!!

“not what I was expecting”

We were four travelers, two singles, one couple. We had booked several nights stay and ended up leaving after only one night. The rooms are clean but incredibly small. One with a double bed which was so small the door did not even open all the way. One of the other rooms had two beds but was very small as well. The only window was a high two foot window that opened to a concrete ventilation shaft, and the shower dripped all night. The "delux" room was the same size but with a obscured view.

for very little more there are much nicer places.

It was also on the loud side.
