Spent 3 very pleasant nights in Casa Cristina. Owner makes you feel at home and is very personable and helpful. She arranged a private car and driver for us at a very reasonable rate when we wanted to go off the beaten path.
Ask for a room on the top floor for a great view of the volcano ($34-37US). It's easy to contact the hotel directly and answers are prompt. These rooms have a tv and small refrigerator. Rooms are small but adequate as are the bathrooms. But, hey, when you're in Antigua, how much time are you going to spend sitting around a hotel? Everything was spotless and well-kept.
I also liked use of the internet and coffee available at all times in the lounge. There's a rooftop patio also, although no courtyard garden.
I'm already planning my return trip.

We loved our little room at Casa Cristina. It was clean, comfortable, and completely affordable! and we woke up to an unparalleled view of Volcan ?Fuego? I'm guessing, But it was spectacular! Cristina was there in the morning to help us with whatever we needed. She even let us leave our bags so we could walk the beautiful city before we left. Muchas Gracias Cristina and staff! We will be back next week!

This hotel was booked for us by someone who lives nearby. It is basic accommodation. There are less than 10 rooms, so be sure to phone ahead and reserve.
The rooms on the second floor or the third floor are the best. On the second floor, see if you can get the room at the front with a window looking onto the street. It is nice to be able to open the window and get some breeze. Also the inner rooms tend to be damp in the winter, and the towels and handwashed items do not dry in the damp air. A lttle breeze is helpful. The street is very quiet so don't worry about noise, and this room is bigger than the others for the price.
A plus is the sitting room on the main floor with free coffee, drinking water, and free internet. Some mornings they have sweet rolls as well. They supply very little toilet paper, so bring your own.
The charm of the old hotel is part of the pleasure in staying there.

Recently went to La Antigua Guatemala for a wedding and stayed at this hotel. First off, communication with the owners was excellent -- quick email responses, very accommodating and willing to work with us. We booked private shuttle transportation through the hotel and had no problems traveling from Guatemala City airport to the hotel. The hotel is located on a small street by La Merced church, only about a 5 minute walk from 5th Avenue and the Central Park. We booked a room on the second floor with a small window that opened to the outside. The room was clean and had cable TV and a functional, but basic bathroom. The owners also gave us a small refrigerator, though we didn't use it during the trip. There is a small lounge in the hotel with free tea, coffee, and filtered water. Also a computer with Skype is available for use, with wireless internet access also available if you bring your own computer. Though there is no breakfast, the owners do put out a selection of Guatemalan breads in the morning in the small lounge. The owners of the place know the neighborhood well and gave us pretty good recommendations for food and other things in the area. Room services are basic, with the beds made, room cleaned, and new towels and soap provided daily. I would definitely recommend this place for budget travelers and travelers in general visiting Antigua. The only caveat is the ringing of bells from La Merced: The bells start ringing in the morning at 6am and if you have sensitive hearing or are easily woken up, then I suggest ear plugs or another hotel farther away from any of the churches/cathedrals in the city.

We just got back from our trip to antigua, guatemala and I have to say this hotel certainly exceeded our expectations. We arrived late at night, which was not a problem, because when we booked the hotel, the owner recommended we get a private shuttle because that late at night there are no public shuttles. When we got to the hotel, we were taken to our room, which was on the third floor. The room was impeccably clean and had the most amazing view. I was also happy to see they had cable t.v. In the morning we went downstairs to have some coffee and to my surprise they also had this delicious sweet bread out for the guests. I took my coffee upstairs to the terrace where i sat peacefully overlooking the whole town. I adamantly recommend this hotel, for the super friendly owners, that really went out of their way to always help me, even suggesting things to do during the day, and for the beautiful rooms and views in both the room and the terrace. If you are ever in antigua, you have to come check this place out, you will not be dissapointed.
