Owner description: This massive convent was a thriving community of nuns from 1736 until the 1773 earthquake, after which it was abandoned. Now open to the public, tranquil gardens, sparse nuns’ cells and a terrific view from the roof make this a popular attraction.

“tour with the guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

There are so many charming secrets about this convent that you will miss if you do not accept the service of the certified guide at the entry. They do not charge for the service, but they do expect you to tip. Our guide was wonderful and enriched our experience with all his information.

“Multifaceted learning experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Convento de las Capuchinas is a great place to learn about convent life in the 1700s; areas of the building have been restored and you can imagine the nuns in the kitchen, in their cells, in a classroom. The second story outside area provides some spectacular views of the volcanoes, neighboring rooftops, and flowering trees. Take time to be contemplative yourself in the lovely gardens.

“Lots to explore and ponder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

You can definitely spend more than hour walking, pondering and exploring this amazing convent or what's left of it. You can sit and just relaxed in open rooms. Entrance fee for foreigners is about $7.

This is one of the ruins in Antigua you must visit when in Antigua, is well preserved and there's lots to see.

“Ancient Convent and Great Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

This place was fascinating, and we spent a couple of of hours wandering around, checking out the museum areas and the ongoing restorations. There was a school group there, sketching, and they were so cute in their uniforms, running around and playing hide and seek in the ruins. Definitely worth the Q40 price of admission (5 bucks!)
