Posada del Angel is a beautiful, charming, and romantic little hotel with tons of character. It is a fabulous choice in Antigua, especially if you want privacy and quiet. It is a bit pricey by Antigua standards (especially if you bring kids, as they charge quite a bit extra). However, it is probably worth the price if you are looking for luxury without a "touristy" feel that you'll get at Casa Santo Domingo, which is about the same price.

We stayed here for three nights in the Mary Sue Suite with our two young children in an absolutely beautiful room with a queen bed, fold-out couch for the kids, fire place, very small private "patio" (not really usable, nice nonetheless), and gorgeous bathroom with hot tub. Amenities were excellent. The room was really amazing -- plenty of space, but still very cozy, very comfortable bed, good light for reading (but very little natural light), tons of books to browse, beautiful artwork, etc. Our room was one of the best in the hotel.

The daily breakfast (included in room rate) was second-to-none. Fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed OJ, locally-baked breads, cooked-to-order eggs, beans, sauces, etc. We chose to eat every morning on the exquisite rooftop terrace, and really enjoyed the food and the excellent service. The table was set with beautiful locally-made linens and nice ceramic dishes (see photo), and the food was excellent. The roof-top terrace was also a great place for an evening drink. Beer and wine can be purchased on site or you can purchase something in town and bring it up.

The location of the hotel is nice -- about a 7-minute walk down a quite and safe street to the center of town. The hotel is very peaceful and quiet with beautiful vegetation, a wonderful open-air lobby, a small pool. Having said this, I think in the future I would opt not to stay here if I travel with my children. Quinta las Flores is much, much better for families and costs about half as much. We felt a little uncomfortable with the kids, even though they were very well behaved and treated well by the attentive and small staff. The problem was simply that the place is not set up for families. This is not a weakness of the hotel, just a fact. The kids were dying to splash around in the beautiful lap pool just off the main lobby, and right outside several of the rooms, for example, but we felt like we would have been disturbing everyone, so we skipped it.

In short, Posada del Angel is a great choice for couples and those who want privacy and romance. Not the best for families. The only weakness is the price, which is high for Antigua. There are better choices, especially Quinta las Flores, but not too many I imagine.

Outstanding and efficient service!! It was a real treat to spend a weekend at this pacific little luxury hotel!! The attention and service provided by Simon was really good!! The suite and bath were very nice, we enjoy the fire place every evening.

This place was absolutely wonderful! My wife and I came here on our honeymoon and were treated tremendously well.
Unfortunately, there were extremely heavy rains during our stay which made travel to Lake Atitlian treacherous. We had originally planned to stay two nights up at the Lake and were unsure about transportation, safety, and where we could stay if we could not make the Lake. Anibal, the manager, helped tremendously by coordinating possible transportation to the lake, and when that proved impossible, he made arrangements for us to continue to stay at the Posada del Angel.

In short, this hotel is lovely place and the staff is fantastic. Posada del Angel has earned our highest recommendation.

I was at this hotel quite awhile ago and still remember it fondly. The building is stunning and peaceful, and the views from the roof are breathtaking. The food was wonderful. Our room (the green room) was simply perfect, including the bed, the view over the pool, and the very nicely appointed bathroom. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
