This is truly the gem of Antigua. It is not big, it is not super fancy, it is exactly what a hotel should be…THE HOTEL AURORA IS A HOME AWAY FROM HOME! The people at the Aurora are welcoming, and you feel like you are staying in someone’s home rather than in a hotel.
We had a corner room (#1) which was one of the larger rooms in this hotel. We had a king sized bed and two double beds, all of which were among the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in! The décor is traditional Guatemalan with beautiful lamps, and lights on dinner switches accenting beautiful art. The internet was complimentary and we caught it with ease in our room. The speed was excellent!
The Aurora courtyard garden is among the most beautiful you will find anywhere. The beautiful fountain is surrounded by hundreds of different kinds of flowers.
The central location is magnificent, just a block from the town square, the Cathedral, and within walking distance of EVERYTHING in Antigua.
The security is very nice. You must be buzzed into the property, and after about 10 PM the doors are locked and you call the desk from an intercom with a camera and they come let you in. You feel extremely safe the entire time you are onsite!
We had a rental vehicle and it was parked safely inside the hotel parking lot. There is a laundry service where they send out your clothing in the morning and it arrived back in the afternoon. The price was 7 Quetzales per pound which is quite reasonable. You can ask that your clothing be dried or returned damp to be hung.
The English speaking skills of the staff are very good. There is a morning breakfast that is included in the price or you can order off a menu. The pancakes and French toast were both OUTSTANDING!!!.
The best thing about the Aurora is the staff, and the family that runs the hotel. There are not enough things that I can say about our stay. We will return to Antigua in the future and this will be our home during that stay. I guess the best thing I can say is that we were supposed to stay in Antigua for 2 nights and we stayed 5, and even after the 5th night we really did not want to leave.
