“The best shot in Antigua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

No doubt about it Guatemala has some fantastic coffee...some of the best I've come across but strangely hardly anyone knows how to pull a proper shot. You often end up with watery or worse burnt espresso. Not at REFUGE. They get it done RIGHT every time. Plus it has a fantastic vibe is in a great location. Definitely go here early in your trip because you'll be back several times.

“This is a MUST visit if you are in Antigua!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

The Refuge Coffee Bar has the highest quality coffee that I've ever tasted. It is obvious that they focus on quality and cleanliness as their main priority, because they car about highest quality service to each and every customer. But not only to they care about serving quality food, the staff are very friendly and care about getting to know people. They provide quality reading materials as well as music, and the atmosphere is very peaceful. This small coffee shop next to a quaint park in Antigua is gem of the city.

“This coffee bar made me feel really relaxed, and the coffee is of such a quality you can't find anywhere close”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

I used to come a lot to Refuge Coffee Bar when I lived in Antigua for two months. It was the perfect break: a break for that moment, just to relaxed and drink good coffee, but also a break for when you get tired of the Guatemalian society. For me, it was absolutely the best coffee in town! I already did recommend this place to others, when I was still there and EVERYONE loved it! The owner and his employees are very kind. The relaxing thing is the smooth music, the rest to read the newspapers which are available, the small or big, interesting talk to the employee, the smell of fresh coffee beans and just a good coffee.

“Best Cafe Americano in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2011

Best Cafe Americano! Jonathan was a maestro. We did not know they have pasties and cookies so we brought our own Banana cake. He did not mind us having our own food. Not like NYC! So laid back. Loved it. We got some beans (organic one...) from him so will try them here in NYC and remember about our adventure in Guatemala.
