“strange stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We stayed at this place for one night during santa semana. The price of the rooms during this time doubled, meaning that it was extremely expensive. The dorm room we stayed in did not have any windows and we stayed in it with 6 people. As it was right next to the kitchen we got woken up really early. There don't seem to be very many bathrooms/toilets in this hostel and we always had to queue up for one. The bar is tiny, but staff was generally friendly and breakfast was great. I guess if we had stayed there during another time but santa semana it could have been OK, but we weren't really happy about it during this stay.

decent staff. but room was unclean, bathrooms were stinky and gross, it was loud late, and worst of all, we woke in the middle of the night to bedbugs! we heard another couple screaming about the same thing. my boyfriend still has welts all over his body. we moved to another room and found a very large blood-filled tick crawling across the bed. not a great hostel experience to say the least.

Everything you'd expect from a hostel. Average dorms and a good place to meet people in this fun city. Try eating elsewhere though, the food is average, but there are so many great restaurants near by.

The hostel where we wanted to go was full so that mades us looking for something else. The first hostel we found was this hostel and I still regret we stayed there. I woke up at 2am feeling the bedbugs walking on my arm. When we all woke up my friend looked like a dalmatian and was bitten all over his face. We got the night for free but I prefer to pay and don't got bitten everywhere instead of this!

Only thing what's good is the breakfast.

As Antigua is easily walk-able, you won't really need to worry about the location, however it is in the heart of town. The breakfast here is really good, with decent proportion, and the view from the top most dorms is really something, especially on dusk. But it would have to have been one of the worst beds I've slept on, and for a hostel; where are place to sleep is what your looking for, it brings the whole place down.

this place was a riot! I loved it! met so many cool people from all over, bars within a block, the in house bar is pretty good too! on the week end this place is full, a great place to meet people and have a great time. def the highlight on antigua for me. also central to all the markets, the rooms on the top floor are quieter for when you do want to sleep. has everything you need to have a good time.

Room Tip: top floor rooms are quieter.

Black Cat Antigua was the perfect place to party, meet other travelers and see Antigua. The amazing stuff especially Rich, Charlie and Aury make your time in Antigua one you will never forget. The AMAZING breakfast is a great way to start your day and the food menu is cheap with huge portions..

My 26th Birthday wil be one I will never forget thanks to the wonderful staff!!! Highly reccomend it to anyone looking to have fun..
