D’Leyenda is a great find for visitors to Antigua seeking lovely accommodations and a notably central location at a very reasonable price.
With only 6 rooms, this hotel can experience noteworthy demand, so if you have your heart set on staying here, you might have to be flexible.
Well, for starters, the hotel might just have the best location in Antigua--if you were any closer to the central Plaza, you’d be sleeping on the steps of the Cathedral. D’Leyenda is just a half block from northeast corner of the very center of this colonial city, on the same side of the street from the iconic Cathedral.
The staff is wonderful, helpful, detail-oriented--even after I checked out, the front desk manager greeted me by name when I saw him while walking through Antigua. You are a valued guest at this hotel.
While D’Leyenda is located in a historic building, the hotel itself is quite new--having opened within the last year. The 6 rooms surround an inner courtyard and a circular stair that takes guests to a rooftop deck with views of Volcan del Agua.
The rooms are very nicely outfitted, with high ceilings, detailed moldings, and wood accents. There are three room types. . .a small room with one bed, a larger room with two beds, and only one room pairing a larger floor plan with one bed. (Have noticed this trend at some hotels in Latin America--if there is more space, the hotel tends to put two beds where a couple would prefer a single large bed).
The small rooms can be a bit claustrophobic, even as they are nicely designed. The bathrooms are also pretty, though having the shampoo and shower gel in a mounted dispenser rather than little bottles is annoying (my dispenser didn’t fit right either). The rooms all open onto the inside, so ventilation is at a minimum--and there is no thermostat. While I was comfortable, the lack of ventilation and a/c could make the room hot and stuffy. The interior location makes these rooms quiet, despite the smack dub center siting of this hotel.
Breakfast is included, and while a continental, this meal is served in courses. I dined on the roof, and the server brought a beautiful fruit plate, then toast and other pastries. Coffee was delicious.
My single room cost $60 (cash--credit cards carry a surcharge) including tax and breakfast--so was a great value. There were a few quibbles, but D’Leyenda is a great choice.
