“Great B&B... great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2008

When I wanted to book our fall package at the Veranda House(GREAT value included R/T tickets on high speed ferry), there was only one room available across the street in their Arbor Cottage 'annex'. Our stay there did not disappoint. Nice and roomy accommodations were always very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient for a short stroll to the center of town or the dock area. The breakfast buffet was varied and fresh. The only thing remotely negative would be that the hot item all 3 mornings was oatmeal.
Would definitely stay there again!

The Arbor Cottages are actually part of the Veranda House but just across the street from it - and we stayed in the Beachplum room for 3 days in June and loved (almost!) all of it. The Veranda House has just been re-decorated and is done really well. The garden is wonderful, and the breakfast patio area is a lovely place to sit. The inside décor is quite modern but works really well and there is a very open feel to the hotel. Breakfast is really great, staff helpful (we had 2 minor complaints when we were there and they handled them both well) and the location itself is really good as it is just off the main streets of the 'Nantucket town', and so is quiet and has a more relaxed feeling.

In terms of the Beachplum room itself, it is bright and airy, although the bathroom is aging slightly but still fine, but the walls of the room are quite thin and the floors are wooden, and we did have one evening when the people in the room above were clumping about and it was quite loud. But, hey, I've had noisy neighbours in the Hilton so I'm not going to over-worry about that!

One of the best places we’ve stayed at recently and would definitely go back tomorrow if we could!

My wife and I stayed at Arbor Cottage earlier this month. First, the location of the inn is absolutely perfect. It is tucked away on Step Lane, only a few blocks from the Main St, yet far enough away to be very quiet. Second, the breakfasts served across the street at the Veranda House were delicious. The benefit of staying at Arbor Cottage is that you pay less for the room, but still get full use of all Veranda House amenities (Concierge, DVDs, Books, Water, Coffee, Afternoon snacks) , as well as their excellent breakfasts. The Beachplum room at Arbor Cottage was a bit small, but we knew that going in, and for $200/night it was one of the cheapest rooms on the island, so we were valuing price over luxury. Besides the slightly small room, Arbor Cottage could use a fresh paint job, could have been serviced more frequently (the "dirty glasses" tray in the common room was not cleaned for the duration of the stay as glasses continued to pile up), the bed wasn't the most comfortable, the cable reception on the flatscreen tv was poor, and no iron or ironing board in room. I would still recommend Arbor Cottage to those looking for value, location, and good breakfasts in a Nantucket inn.

We loved everything about Arbor Cottage, until we went to bed. We stayed in room: Country Lane, its a great room, lots of windows and light, but the bed was like a cot. There was no support in the center and my husband and i kept rolling to the center, neither of us slept well. I pretty much woke up every hour because i was so uncomfortable and finally gave up at 5am. Not what you dream about for your vacation. Everything else is great, but if you can't sleep, nothing else matters. If you call to book, ask how old the bed is in the room you are booking.

My husband, son and I just returned from a 3 night vist to Arbor Cottage and absolutely loved it! We stayed in the Harbor Suite on the 3rd floor. The 2 bedroom suite with private bath, sitting area and kitchenette were perfectly suited for our visit. The cottage is in a quiet neighborhood, away from the busy downtown. The location is excellent, a short walk from the Ferry, downtown and Jetty's Beach. The staff was extremely accomodating, stored our bicycles, provided beach towels, water and chairs as well as offering many great suggestions for dining. This was our family's first visit to Nantucket and we'll be back...and back at Arbor Cottage!

We have stayed in Nantucket for 5 straight summer s with this being our first visit to The Arbor Cottages and the associated Verandah House.......and we have nothing but positive things to report about our experience. In fact, this will be where we stay from now on. The cottage is situated perfectly from Main straight about 3 blocks away so that everything is easily accesible and yet you are in a quiet part of town so it is peaceful and restful at the end of a long day of investigating the island. The staff was extremely helpful, courteous and professional which has not always been found on the Island.....and the breakfast and afternoon tea and cookies were scrumptous. What really makes this cottage is the overall cleanliness throughout and the meticulous detail to which all the rooms are decorated. Overall best place to stay in Nantucket......the associated Verandah House hotel rooms are just as nice but with more of a modern flair .

We recently returned from a three-night stay on Nantucket and had the pleasure of experiencing Arbor Cottage at Six Stepp Lane.

Our room was called Country Lane. It had it's own bathroom and the entire suite was clean, light and airy. The bedroom had four windows and the bathroom had two. The bed and linens were wonderful.

Although the room's decor is cottagy and quaint, with a wing chair, converted rope bed, and antique bureau, we also had a wall-mounted, flat-screen television.

We didn't see the owners during our stay but Hanlie, the house manager, took care of our needs and answered our questions. Her daily breakfast consisted of delicious fruit, homemade muffins, healthy cereal, toast and jam. Tea and homemade cookies were served every afternoon.

Arbor Cottage is on a quiet side street, yet we were within walking distance from the ferry and to everything in town. The rates were reasonable, for Nantucket.
