“So good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

The line for the take out looks long but moves fast. There are only a 2 types of donuts- chocolate and plain, but they were fabulous. We also got an egg sandwich that was good and the coffee was fine. The donuts are the stars, though. There are benches to eat at outside. It has good bike parking.

“Fantastic breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

Don't miss the donuts here, get one as a sort of breakfast appetizer with your coffee. Good food, fresh and hot, my coffee cup was never empty. Yummy place, kids loved it too.

“Best Place to Eat Breakfast or Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

The food is consistently great with great service. We have been going there for years and it is the only place we always go for each visit to the island. We look forward to each day for breakfast to see what specials they have created. The staff are always great and we enjoy talking with them. It is not possible to say enough good things about this institution on Nantucket.

“Breakfast of Champions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Always packed. Go early, the waffles are fabulous. Be sure to take two dozen donuts (in two boxes) so you can have some after the rest of your group devour the others.

“A fine local diner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Downyflake pre-dates you. It got to Nantucket first. Oldtimers will tell you about the old location near the wharfs, how they'd sail over from Wauwinet in the morning to get their donuts. Downyflake pre-dates the oldtimers too.

If you come for breakfast in the summer, you will wait for a table. If you decide to use their takeout coffee and donut line, you will wait in that line, too. Don't let this stop you, unless you are looking for something other than skilled diner cooking. Eggs as omelets or scrambles, yes! Blueberry pancakes? Great! Fresh donuts, plain, sugar or chocolate covered, certainly!

Lunch too can be great. The burgers are simple, the lobster roll is just fine and cheaper than anywhere else on the island.

The staff are professionals. They are locals. They know the drill, all you have to do is go along for the ride.

Enjoy!
