We just returned from staying at the Martin House Inn. We stayed in Boston for several days and tacked on a side trip to Nantucket. I contacted the B&B about room availability, and they said they had a really romantic room with a fireplace; I know it can get chilly at night there, so I went ahead and booked the room - #21. It also had a private bathroom and its own outdoor sitting area which was very nice. Since it was such a short trip, we decided to fly on Cape Air, rather than take the ferry from Hyannis. The Martin House Inn arranged our airfare and got us a discount on ticket prices.
The B&B is in a great location - very quiet, but close enough to walk to the center of town where all the restaurants and shops are. We were also able to walk to Jetties beach. September is a great time to visit - everything is still open but not crowded. Skye was very helpful in providing us with restaurant menus and information on things to do. We went sailing on the Endeavor, which I would highly recommend; it leaves from Straight Wharf. The B&B itself is cozy and old; our bed had Ralph Lauren linens which were very comfortable. The doors stick and the doors are hard to lock, but we just took that as part of the charm of staying in an older, historical building.
It was quite chilly in our room when we returned from sailing, and we looked forward to building a cozy fire, only to find out that they didn't have any firewood. This was a disappointment because the fireplace was the main appeal of booking this specific room. They said they normally have Duraflame logs but did not have any on hand. In the morning, they served a nice continental breakfast - fresh baked goods, juice, and fruit with a yogurt sauce. All was good. They also served fresh cookies in the afternoons, which scored major points with my husband. Overall, we enjoyed staying here and would probably stay again.
