“Amazing view, relaxing setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Terry and Paul are such exquisite innkeepers. They are always welcoming and accommodating. I just stayed for a second time at their charming bed and breakfast. She always bakes something delicious for the afternoons and has snacks and drinks available. We stayed in the Wisteria room which has its own private bathroom and a wonderful view of the lake below. My boyfriend and I were so relaxed we loved laying on a blanket on the grass for hours on end. There are many mountains around if you like hiking. The fountain in the yard is a great addition and I liked listening to the water trickling. They have a sweet dog named Abby and a cat Cleo. We welcomed their company all afternoon while we relaxed outside. We took a nice walk down to sit near the water and they have a rocker type chair for two people you can relax in. At night it is so peaceful. The beds were comfortable and we woke up well rested. Breakfast is prepared with such care by Terry. We had some fresh fruit accompanied by various choices of teas, coffee, juices and cocoa. She makes eggs any style. I loved the eggs Benedict! We also loved the cranberry orange bread. Yum. To top off our stay, before we left the other guests pointed out two deer eating apples in the yard down below. They then frolicked down into the woods. I cannot wait to return and enjoy some relaxation in such a beautiful setting.

My husband and I recently stayed for two nights in the Wisteria Room at Maguire House while visiting family in the Ashburnham area. We now plan to return at least annually. What an extraordinary experience. Everything was superlative - the estate-like situation on Upper Naukeag Lake; the beautifully restored house; tasteful, top-flight decoration (not a fusty dried flower or pot of fake potpourri in sight); delicious, fresh, savory breakfast; afternoon and evening treats, including wine and cheese; the room - lovely and luxuriously comfortable. And then, of course, there are Terry and Paul Maguire, who are the best possible hosts - full of welcome, and then ready to chat - or not - just as the guest wishes.

Terry and Paul are excellent hosts of this lovely property in Ashburnham MA. We enjoyed our three night stay immensely. Our room was very comfortable and Terry's breakfasts were delicious. Complimentary wine, cheese, crackers, baked goods, bottled water, and more provided a nice touch. Terry went out of her way to accommodate us and our fellow guests - much appreciated! We would highly recommend the Maguire House to anyone looking for a comfortable, relaxing retreat.

Room Tip: Of the three rooms available, only the Wisteria room has an en suite bathroom. The others (Rose and...

My husband and i decided on a last minute mini-getaway in Central MA for some relaxation and hiking, and could not have started it off in a better way than deciding to stay at The Maguire House! Terry and Paul greeted us warmly as we settled into our beautiful room. They offered us homemade cookies, tea, coffee and other treats as well as great recommendations for local hiking! Before we left for our hike, I walked through the beautiful grounds to sit by the quiet lake at the end of their yard. In the morning, we woke up to a delicious hot breakfast, with fresh fruit and home baked goods. Without a doubt -- a perfect getaway that I highly recommend!

My wife and I stayed at the Maguire House this Valentine's day as a special treat away from the kids and was surprised to find such a quaint little hideaway right in my own neighborhood! Terry and Paul are very warm and thoughtful! I needed to change my arrival times a couple of times and Terry was very flexible and never made it feel like a bother. I was even allowed to bring a Valentine's day gift and put it in our room prior to our arrival so that way it would be there to surprise her!

The breakfast was wonderful and you'd be hard pressed to leave hungry. Certainly far better having a home cooked meal than anything you would ever get in a hotel, even in the better hotel chains. The bed was very comfortable and the down filled comforter was perfect!

I would highly recommend staying here for a special surprise getaway whether an anniversary, birthday, or just because! Though this wasn't a family review, I wouldn't hesitate to bring the kids with you.

We had a great weekend at the Maguire House. This was a great get-away from the city. The beautiful frozen lake and surrounding hills next to the house provided a peaceful backdrop to a relaxing weekend. Terry was a great hostess and we had a wonderful time in the snow in North-Central Mass. The breakfast was also wonderful. We hope to return!
