I'm not sure where these reviews of "old" come from. I stay at numerous Homewood Suites across the country. This one is probably the newest and most modernly appointed Homewood suites I've stayed at.
Lets start with the suites. Larger flat screen TVs in both rooms. Very well appointed kitchens with stylish counter tops and matching, modern appliances. The room was exceptionally clean and smelled brand new. I can only think they just went through a very comprehensive remodeling. The hotel itself has just about every thoughtful touch one could think of. Flat screen monitors displaying cable news at each elevator waiting point and a lot more. This is one nice property.
But MY review does contain some gripes. Primarily its the location. If you don't have a car and aren't working within the immediate proximity of the hotel such as in extreme North Cambridge or Arlington you're kinda out of luck. This hotel is in a residential area. Dining options are sparse unless you like little street corner pizzerias a couple of blocks away. The staff might suggest the closest subway station (Alewife) is near but really its not. Its at least a 20 minute walk. And if you are stayiing more than couple of days that can get old. So if you are considering working out of the Boston area and commuting using the subway you might want to reconsider staying elsewhere even if you were driving. Its a bit of a drive to the city. A shame really because this is, once again, otherwise one of the best Homewood Suites I've had the pleasure to stay at.
